Original datasets were not retrieved, except for March 1997 (that was provided with English labels by Mircea Comșa) and December 1997 (retrieved by Bogdan Voicu and partly cleaned in 2004).
A pooled dataset compiled by Sebastian Lăzăroiu in 1998 includes 11 out the 12 waves of the survey (the missing one is December 1997). A generic questionnaire was compiled by Sebastian Lăzăroiu with the same occasion. The current version of the dataset includes a few additional variables compiled by Bogdan Voicu in 2004.
Press releases for some waves in 1995-1996 were recovered by Ovidiu Voicu and Mircea Comșa and rearranged by Bogdan Voicu in 2022. They allowed to reconstruct information on Barometer boards, partly completed with information provided by Dumitru Sandu:

Datasets are provided in three formats:
.zsav, .sav, .dta.
SPSS and Stata (14+) could be used to read the data. For R, we recommend using packages RcmdrMisc (function readSPSS) and readstata13 in order to import databases.
Labels are provided for the moment only in Romanian language. (except for march 1997, for which English labels are available within the dataset)
No weighting system is provided, for the simple reason that in all cases there is no need for weighting (all weights should be equal to 1)
BOOK REVIEW. „FUNDAMENTELE METODOLOGICE ALE ȘTIINȚELOR SOCIALE” [‟THE METHODOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF THE SOCIAL SCIENCES”], BY TRAIAN ROTARIU. IAȘI: POLIROM, 2016, 235 P.
Traian Rotariu\u27s The Methodological Foundations of the Social Sciences is a contribution to the epistemological foundation of sociology. It is the work of a scholar who ponders on his four decades of research work and evaluates the transformation of the sociological field since the 1970s. The six chapters approach major epistemological issues, covering the central dichotomies which have organized from the end of the 19th century the debates in the field around the scientific nature of sociology as a discipline: idiographic and nomothetic, qualitative and quantitative data, individualism and holism, realism and constructivism, methodological monism and dualism. The book is construed as a polemical engagement with the postmodernist attacks on science and, especially, with the various trends of postmodernism in sociology. The old dichotomies are repurposed to put in perspective the criticism on the rationality of science and give a firmer foundation to the contemporary sociological endeavours as a coherent collective scientific project
IN MEMORIAM TRAIAN ROTARIU, EMERITUS PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY AT BABEȘ-BOLYAI UNIVERSITY (12.02.1943 – 28.12.2021)
Traian Rotariu, emeritus professor of Sociology at the Babeș-Bolyai University, passed away on the 28th of December 2021, leaving behind an outstanding oeuvre for the Romanian social sciences and a legacy of institutional building that materialised in the creation of the Department of Sociology, after the fall of the state-socialist regime and, ten years later, of the Centre for Population Studies at the same university. His academic career started in 1968, when he joined as a research assistant the Sociology Laboratory within the Babeș-Bolyai University, led by the late professor Ion Aluaș (1927-1994). At the time, he had already earned a BA in Mathematics (1965) and, after working as a high school teacher for a couple of years, he commenced studying for a second BA in Philosophy. Motivated by his increasing interest in social sciences and quantitative methodologies, he successfully competed for a scholarship of the Ministry of Education to pursue doctoral studies at Paris V René Descartes University (Sorbonne), under the supervision of Raymond Boudon, between 1974 and 1977. His PhD thesis, entitled Education et mobilité sociale (1977), addressed the problems of social mobility in developed capitalist societies and concentrated on the role of the school system in social reproduction. Its Romanian translation was published in 1980. In 1977, he became a research assistant and in 1979, he earned the position of lecturer at the Department of Philosophy with Babeș-Bolyai University. The late 1970s and 1980s meant an intensive period of empirical social research alongside Professor Ion Aluaș and fellow young academics, despite the formal restrictions on social sciences imposed by the regime. They analysed the social changes induced by industrialisation and urbanisation, ranging from internal migration to social mobility, demographic changes, family life, and transformations of rural households
