El fundherentismo: la epistemología de Susan Haack
In this article, the author wishes to present Susan Haack’s epistemological proposal that aims to locate it in the middle between foundationalism and coherentism. The foundationalism asserts the existence of fundamental core beliefs. Instead coherentism believes consistency is enough to justifybeliefs. Haack sees insufficient both proposals and presents a new model to save the best of the other two: the foundherentism. The author explains that this proposal is directed towards two objectives: the problem of the justification of our beliefs and the problem of truth. Since the proposal itself is interesting, but it’s more interesting to see this new epistemology makes by a woman philosopher, with new visions and new perspectives as her contribution.
Susan Haack on Twardowski’s refutation of the relativity of truth
This paper comments Susan Haack’s remarks about Twardowski’s criticism of relativism in the theory of truth. The author summarizes Twardowski’s arguments for truth-absolutism and tries to show that that their presentation by Haack is incomplete. The defense of Twardowski’s position in the paper uses ideas developed by Tarski and Kokoszyñska
Boundary layer roll circulations during FIRE
The probable mechanism underlying the development of boundary layer roll circulations are studied using wind and temperature profiles measured by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) Electra during the stratocumulus phase of the First ISCCP Regional Experiment (FIRE). The expected, or preferred, roll orientations, horizontal wavelengths, and propagation periods are determined by finding the minimum values of the dynamic and thermodynamic forcing parameters, which here are the eddy Reynolds number (Re) and moist Rayleigh number (Ra sub m). These minimum values depend on the height z sub T of the capping temperature inversion and on the values of the Fourier coefficients of the background height-dependent vector wind profile. As input to our nonlinear spectral model, descent and ascent runs by the Electra provide for initial estimates of the inversion height and the wind profiles. In the first phase of the investigation presented here, a mechanism is said to be a probable contributor to the development of roll circulations within the stratocumulus-topped boundary layer if the modeled roll orientation and wavelengths agree with their observed values. Preliminary results using the 14-coefficient model of Haack-Hirschberg (1988) are discussed for the 7 July 1987 Electra Mission 188-A (Flight 5). This mission was flown across a sharp cloud boundary that was within a LANDSAT/SPOT scene. The stratocumulus deck was relatively solid in the eastern part of the scene, while there was a rapid decrease in cloud cover to scattered cumulus clouds aligned in streets to the west. These cloud streets were oriented nearly parallel to the mean wind direction in the layer, which was approximately 340 degrees. The hypothesis that roll circulations occurred in both the relatively clear and the cloudy regions is investigated using as model input a descent profile obtained in the relatively clear air and an ascent profile obtained in the cloudy air. Initial results for the clear air case are that the pure inflection point mode is not possible and the pure thermal mode was oriented 35 degrees to the right of the mean wind direction. The origin of this unacceptably large discrepancy between the observed and modeled results will be investigated further and the conclusions reported at the next FIRE workshop

El símbolo en la obra visual/verbal de Milagro Haack
The focus of this article is to approach the symbol in the visual / verbal work of Milagro Haack. It is based on the practical precepts of hermeneutics in Gadamer's vision through his work: The actuality of the beautiful: Art as a game, symbol and party (1991) for these purposes, only the symbol is taken for being an experience anthropological art. For correspondences they are used in various collages, drawings, poems and essays by the same author. It was concluded that the symbol responds to visual / verbal correspondences because there are alternatives that cross meanings by causing transpositions in the verbal representation of the images. This leads to a perception that inaugurates the previous Being in a system of equivalences demarcated by an ecphrastic line that draws the existential experience inward and, at the same time, creates a powerful imaginary exterior. But, the meaning is confused by the hermeticism of the word but not of the image. This approach to the category of the symbol due to its complexity still needs to be resolved by other researchers. Recibido: 07-04-2019 Aceptado: 01-06-201
Instructions for Caring
Instructions for Caring is a collection consisting of juxtaposed lyric essays, braided essays, and poetry. Through research and fragmented personal narrative, each work meditates on human connection and mental illness. The fragmented nature of Instructions for Caring situates human biology and environmental conditions in close conversation with lived experience in the first-person point-of-view. Research into the history of state-run mental health facilities and the evolution of treatment methods contextualizes memory in an attempt to get closer to understanding empathy and care. The research asks how what we call mental illness lives within bodies or is expressed by bodies, the way lived experiences, biology, and the environment may contribute to atypical behavior

PEDAGOGICAL PRAXIS IN AN AGE OF PRIVATIZATION: THE CONTRADICTION OF CHARTER SCHOOLS
This study investigates a perceived inconsistency between pedagogical theory and uncritical practice in education, specifically in charter schools. The researcher reflects on the historical creation of charter schools to fulfill the needs of struggling students in contrast to a perception of modern charter schools that are more rigorous or specialized.
The study includes thematically coded interview data from five Midwestern charter school educators in conjunction with site visits including two unspecified charters and two Montessori charters. Educators are asked to describe their evolving teaching philosophies, views on the purposes of education, and identify differences between charter schools and traditional public schools. Three primary themes emerged in educator rhetoric including: 1. instruction of values, 2. language charged by the free-market metaphor, and 3. issues of access for ESL and disabled students. The conclusion posits that homogenous teaching theory can result in uncritical practice and education reforms that do not meet the needs of all students. Thus, not meeting the original vision of charter schools. Themes are analyzed using the critical theory of Louis Althusser who identifies ideological systems and Paulo Freire who discusses the goals of public education as a “democratizing” experience
