Dutch Diagnostic Instrument for Mild Aphasia (DIMA): standardisation and a first clinical application in two brain tumour patients
Brain tumour patients with mild language disturbances are typically underdiagnosed due to lack of sensitive tests leading to negative effects in daily communicative and social life. We aim to develop a Dutch standardised test-battery, the Diagnostic Instrument for Mild Aphasia (DIMA) to detect characteristics of mild aphasia at the main linguistic levels phonology, semantics and (morpho-)syntax in production and comprehension. We designed 4 DIMA subtests: 1) repetition (words, non-words, compounds and sentences), 2) semantic odd-picture-out (objects and actions), 3) sentence completion and 4) sentence judgment (accuracy and reaction time). A normative study was carried out in a healthy Dutch-speaking population (N = 211) divided into groups of gender, age and education. Clinical application of DIMA was demonstrated in two brain tumour patients (glioma and meningioma). Standard language tests were also administered: object naming, verbal fluency (category and letter), and Token Test. Performance was at ceiling on all sub-tests, except semantic odd-picture-out actions, with an effect of age and education on most subtests. Clinical application DIMA: repetition was impaired in both cases. Reaction time in the sentence judgment test (phonology and syntax) was impaired (not accuracy) in one patient. Standard language tests: category fluency was impaired in both cases and object naming in one patient. The Token Test was not able to detect language disturbances in both cases. DIMA seems to be sensitive to capture mild aphasic deficits. DIMA is expected to be of great potential for standard assessment of language functions in patients with also other neurological diseases than brain tumours.sponsorship: The author Roelien Bastiaanse was partially supported by the Center for Language and Brain NRU Higher School of Economics, RF Government grant, ag.. 14.641.31.0004. The Brandenburg Gates : unity, division, and reinvented tradition in post-wall Berlin
Thesis (M.C.P.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dept. of Urban Studies and Planning, 2013.This electronic version was submitted by the student author. The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (p. 96-98).Twenty three years after the German Reunification (German: Deutsche Wiedervereinigung), the once divided Berlin is still undergoing a process of recovery from the deep political, social, cultural, and physical divisions of the 20th century. Such divisions seem to have manifested themselves in every corner of the city throughout the course of history, creating a highly politicized environment, and hotly contested spaces decades after conflict ended. One particular area of controversy lies in the center of the city, along the former path of the Berlin Wall. This part of the city was heavily destroyed after the Second World War. Despite some unsuccessful reconstruction efforts after the War, the Berlin Wall passed right through the center of the city, wiping out the few buildings that were left standing, leaving the area completely barren and deserted. This area of the city came to be known as the 'death strip' (German: Todesstreifen), characterized by a long wide empty space, a wall on the west, barbed wire on the east, and occasional checkpoints and military units along the way. Over the last twenty three years, the Senate Department for Urban Development and the Environment (German: Berlin Stadtentwicklung) has sought to restore, preserve, rebuild, and develop large parts of the city, including the former death strip. Its goal has been to physically reconnect fragmented parts the city, by creating spaces that serve as meeting points for former East and West Berliners, in order to reintegrate the city's physical landscape and recreate its cultural identity. One of the Senate's key development projects focused on the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin's iconic landmark, and its surrounding public spaces, for the political, cultural, and historic symbolism they represent to the city. This thesis will first examine the conditions under which the Brandenburg Gate has served as a symbol of unity and division in the city throughout its evolving history. Then, it will discuss the Brandenburg Gate and its surrounding spaces as a network of reinvented traditions, with the Gate serving as passageway to the physical and temporal histories to the city-hence, the Brandenburg Gates.by Dima Ayyash.M.C.P

Contribuţii privitoare la viaţa şi activitatea lui Ienăchiţă Văcărescu
In the paper the author deals with some unclear or even unknown aspects connected with the activity of the great Romanian scholar Ienăchiţă Văcărescu: 1. As a result of the linguistic and stylistic comparison between the texts known to belong to Văcărescu and the Pravilniceasca Condică, law code published in 1780 at the request of prince Alexandru Ipsilante, she has reached the conclusion that the text in Romanian is the work of Ienăchiţă Văcărescu. 2. The same contrastive method used on the available texts, especially the translation of the Hatişeriful Sultanului Selim, of 1791, allowed the author to establish, based on linguistic and textological similarities, the paternity of Ienăchiţă Văcărescu on the Romanian translation of the Hatişeriful Sultanului Hamid, of 1774. 3. Starting from previous researches connected to the Wallachian version of the Erotokritos by Vincenzo Cornaros, the author considers that the poem [Într-un copaci zarifior], attributed to Ienăchiţă, is extracted from the translation of the Erotokritos by Alecu Văcărescu and therefore the verses belong to his son. The motif of the falk caught in love’s chains is to be found in the Greek original and in the Moldavian version of its translation. 4. Citing a credible document, the author proves that the exact date of death of the great scholar is the 11th July 1797. 5. The annex at the end of the paper includes the edited text of the two Hatişerifuri, translated by Ienăchiţă Văcărescu, followed by an index of less known words

Estandar eta dialektoen arteko bateratze-joerak (ikuspuntu teorikotik begirada bat)
The article starts in search of the theoretical point of view of the relationship between dialects and standard language. After going deeply into the type of levelling between the standard language and the dialects, and his typology, the author examines two cases on the basque language: the case of the speaked language in Dima, in Bizkay, and the case of the speaked language in Goierri, en Gipuzkoa. In these two areas he investigates phonological, morphological and syntactical characteristics, without forgetting the lexical characteristics.Dialektoen eta hizkuntza estandarraren arteko harremanak lantzeko ikuspuntu teorikoaren bilaketan abiatzen da artikulua. Hizkuntza estandarraren eta dialektoen arteko bateratze-motetan eta tipologian sakondu ondoren euskararen bi gunetako kasuak aztertzen dira: Arratiako Dima eta Gipuzkoako Goierri. Evidence synthesis of health policy and systems research in rehabilitation: a protocol for Cochrane overviews of systematic reviews on delivery, governance, financial arrangements, and implementation strategies
Cochrane Rehabilitation and the World Health Organization (WHO) Rehabilitation Program are collaborating to produce four Cochrane overviews of systematic reviews that synthesize the current evidence from health policy and systems research (HPSR) in rehabilitation. They will focus on the four pillars of HPSR identified by the Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization of Care (EPOC) taxonomy: delivery arrangements, financial arrangements, governance arrangements, and implementation strategies. The protocol describes why HPSR is currently needed in rehabilitation, provides detailed information on the four EPOC pillars in interaction with rehabilitation and reports the Cochrane methods that will be followed to produce the overviews. 1.
