“Can’t be what you can’t see”: the transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to higher education
No full textThis report presents the findings of an investigation into the processes, the data, the key issues, the pathways, the enablers, the constraints and the opportunities regarding the transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students into higher education. Through an examination of qualitative and quantitative evidence, the report explores the nuances, dimensions and different perspectives of what constitutes successful transition to higher education from a range of Indigenous community contexts and diverse university settings.
The accompanying literature review for this project examined relevant research, policy and programs in peer-reviewed, non-peer-reviewed and grey literature relating to the transitioning of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students into higher education, including case studies of promising practice models nationally and internationally.

The research was commissioned and supported by the Australian Government through the Office of Learning and Teaching (OLT). The project involved researchers from the Nulungu Research Institute and The University of Notre Dame Australia, from Southern Cross University and the Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education (BIITE). Elastic-DF: Scaling Performance of DNN Inference in FPGA Clouds through Automatic Partitioning
No full textCustomized compute acceleration in the datacenter is key to the wider roll-out of applications based on deep neural network (DNN) inference. In this article, we investigate how to maximize the performance and scalability of field-programmable gate array (FPGA)-based pipeline dataflow DNN inference accelerators (DFAs) automatically on computing infrastructures consisting of multi-die, network-connected FPGAs. We present Elastic-DF, a novel resource partitioning tool and associated FPGA runtime infrastructure that integrates with the DNN compiler FINN. Elastic-DF allocates FPGA resources to DNN layers and layers to individual FPGA dies to maximize the total performance of the multi-FPGA system. In the resulting Elastic-DF mapping, the accelerator may be instantiated multiple times, and each instance may be segmented across multiple FPGAs transparently, whereby the segments communicate peer-to-peer through 100 Gbps Ethernet FPGA infrastructure, without host involvement. When applied to ResNet-50, Elastic-DF provides a 44% latency decrease on Alveo U280. For MobileNetV1 on Alveo U200 and U280, Elastic-DF enables a 78% throughput increase, eliminating the performance difference between these cards and the larger Alveo U250. Elastic-DF also increases operating frequency in all our experiments, on average by over 20%. Elastic-DF therefore increases performance portability between different sizes of FPGA and increases the critical throughput per cost metric of datacenter inference. A critical assessment of the theology of Camilo Torres in the light of Latin American theology : a theological paradigm for peace with justice for Colombia
No full textThe thesis aims to provide a critical assessment of Camilo Torres’ concept of efficacious love in the light of a hermeneutics and ethics of liberation, to contribute theoretically to theological reflection upon the mission of the Protestant and Roman Catholic churches in Colombia, and generally in Latin America. It proposes the thesis that the theology of Camilo Torres, viewed from the perspective of a hermeneutics and an ethics of liberation, can be foundational for seeking, constructing, and sustaining peace with justice in a context of oppression and violence.
Based on the theological analysis, the academic and spiritual motivation should respond to two fundamental questions in our academic inquiry: what foundation exists in Camilo Torres’ theology for the construction of a just, peaceful, liberative society and to enable proximity to the excluded, victimized, and poor population in Colombia to be achieved? And how can we as Christians respond to the grace of God in living efficaciously the values of the Kingdom of God, in order to bring structural changes in Colombia? The implications of the answers to those questions would result in the possibility to execute an integrating theological proposal for peace with justice for the church in Colombia.
In an interpretative mode, we consider critically the multidisciplinary interaction of some of the theological foundations of liberation theology. Our task consists in clarifying and constructing theological presuppositions for a dialectical examination of the historical and current situation in Colombia, viewed in the light of the internal problems and realities. Thus, it is our intention in order to attempt a significant interdisciplinary juncture, to examine and interpret such relevant concepts as efficacious love, faith with works, kenosis, hypostatic union, hermeneutics and ethics of liberation, social justice, personal and collective socio-political conversion, and a praxis of faith as the church’s mission in response to the Colombian context of poverty and violence
Hydrodynamical turbulence by fractal fourier decimation
No full textWe present a systematic numerical investigation of high-resolution 3D isotropic and homogeneous turbulence resolved on a decimated set of Fourier modes. Fractal decimation acts to decrease the effective dimensionality of the flow by allowing triadic interactions only in a set of Fourier modes N(k) proportional to k^DF for large k. While keeping the symmetries of the original 3D Navier-Stokes equations unchanged, a dramatic change in small-scale statistics is detected at decreasing the fractal dimension DF . Already at fractal dimension DF = 2.8, a global self-similar behaviour is observed in the inertial range of scales, the consequence of such transition are the restoration of the scaling symmetry and vorticity distribution that becomes close to Gaussian. We relate the results to the different roles of local vs non-local interactions in the energy transfer range

São analisadas sete matérias deste jornal que conta em sua narrativa acerca do assassinato por razões de gênero que seguindo as Diretrizes Nacionais Sobre Feminicídio se refere à motivação do agressor em razão da conduta da vítima, sobre o que se espera que ela faça ou não em razão de seu gênero. O jornal Aqui DF é um importante veículo de mídia do Distrito Federal, que pertence ao grupo Diários Associados, um dos maiores conglomerados de mídia da América Latina. Como resposta para pesquisa, verifica-se alguns estereótipos relacionados para os agressores, as vítimas e ao próprio feminicídio.This paper analyzes the narrative of the newspaper Aqui DF in its first year of circulation, 2006, regarding women who were murdered by their partners/ex-partners in the periphery neighborhoods of Brasília. Seven articles of the referring newspaper are analyzed that covers, through its narrative, gender-related murder, which, according to the Diretrizes Nacionais Sobre Feminicídio, refers to the motivation of the aggressor being related to the victim’s conduct, about what is expected of women to do or not to do just because of their gender. The newspaper Aqui DF is an important media corporation of the Distrito Federal, which belongs to the Diários Associados’ group, one of the largest media conglomerates in Latin America. In response to this research, it is found some stereotypes for the perpetrators, for the victims and also for the act of feminicide itself
