    The Application of Roof Ventilator for Electricity Generation

    AbstractWind energy is one types of renewable energy and it does not cause pollution. Therefore, presently, there is the technological development of applying wind energy for the electricity generation. Wind energy is used to replace fossil energy such as oil and coal, causing environmental pollution. Moreover, Thailand has promoted the studies of wind energy application to generate electricity. Nowadays, there is number of small and medium wind turbines used for electricity generation for buildings, houses and small communities. Since Thailand is located in the tropical climate, the buildings, houses and industrial facilities prefer installing roof ventilators to vent hot air out of the roof. Therefore, the author proposed the roof ventilator system equipped with a small direct current electric generator. A 18-watt DC generator was installed in 24-inch roof ventilator and carry around rotation of the generator by gear to the rotation axis of roof ventilator. The results of the study were found that roof ventilator would begin to generate a voltage of 0.2 - 0.3 volt at wind speed of 0.5 meters per second. When the wind speed is higher than 2 meters per second, it would produce about 3.5 volts. However, when connecting the voltage produced by the generator to the DC Step-Up Converter, it was found the wind speed of 5 meters per second. DC generators can produce a voltage of 3 volts. With the DC Step-Up Converter, the voltage would increase to approximately 12 volts and can the current to 220mA, which is sufficient level to work with light-emitting diode lamp. In sum, the system of roof ventilator with a small DC generator could be applied to generate electricity for various households

    Impact of Green Logistics Activities on Circular Economy: Panel Data Evidence from ASEAN

    Green logistic considers those actions which can minimize the ecological impact of logistics activities. The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of green logistics activities on the circular economy indicators of ASEAN. This study has considered four ASEAN members including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore, from 2000 to 2015 with yearly observations. For analyzing the relationship between selected factors of green logistics activities and circular economy, three panel models under the title of ordinary least square OLS, fixed effect and random effect was applied. The main findings of the study show that there is significant influence of Transportation and communication (TC) on recycling rate of selected economies under all three panel models. However, the factor of mining, manufacturing, and construction has shown their significant and positive impact on the recycling rate in ASEAN. Similarly, the effect of TC on specific waste streams is found to be significant and negative under all panel estimators. Further, the factor of MMC is significantly and positively influencing on contribution of recycled materials to raw material demands in selected regions. However, trade of recyclable raw materials has shown an adverse influence from TC under full sample of the study. The findings of the study would be of significant support to the policymakers and various stakeholders in ASEAN economies while exploring the relationship between green logistics activities and selected indicators of circular economy. To the best of author’s knowledge, there has been a dearth of research studies specifically with empirical findings, examining the association between green logistics and circular economy. Therefore, this research could be assumed as tentative addition to the literature of economics.  However, present study has some limitations which could be addressed in future studies. First, study has considered limited number of logistic indicators for analyzing their impact on the circular economy. Second, application of some advanced panel models like GMM is missing which may provide some different findings in future research. Third, only four ASEAN members are selected from the entire population. It is suggested that future studies can also conduct a cross-sectional or time series analysis on a similar topic too

    Solar Energy-Based Insect Pest Trap

    AbstractAgriculture is the main occupation of Thai people. Farmers encounter the problems of various types of insect pests that harm crops and result in loss of productivity each year. Therefore, it is necessary for farmers to use pesticides to prevent crop damage. However, when pesticides are used in large quantity, they cause adverse impacts on people, animals and the environment. Instead of using pesticides, the government has to support other ways to prevent insect pests, including the use of biological agents and some insects etc. A previous study has shown that the ultraviolet light of light emitting diode tube could be used to lure “Coconut Hispine Beetle”(Plesispa reichei Chapuis), a damaging pest of coconut and a range of palm species. This study aimed to develop Solar Energy-Based Insect Pests Trap by using ultraviolet light emitting diode tube to lure the insect pests and 12 volt battery as power supply to light emitting diode tube. The battery charging system derives electrical energy from 20 watts of solar cell for use at night. This proposed Solar Energy-Based Insect Pests Trap has an automatic control system to lure insect pests when there is no sunlight and the system will be stop when the sun shines. The results of the system installation test showed that this proposed Solar Energy-Based Insect Pests Trap could lure several types of insect pests in vegetable and coconut plantations including Brotispa, Elephus beetles, and Aphis, etc

    Impact of Supply Chain Capabilities on Supply Chain Performance: A Case of Thai Electronic Industry

    The present study empirically investigated the supply chain capabilities to determine the supply chain performance in electronic industry of Thailand. Globally, competition has increased due to business expansion and global phenomenon. The study investigated the relationship between supply chain capabilities as measured by supplier partnership and innovativeness in turbulent and highly competitive environment. The current study is conducted on electronic industry of Thailand, to investigate the influence of supplier partnership and supply chain performance and influence of innovation on supply chain performance. The study is unique in determining the moderating role of technology adoption for supply chain between independent variable and dependent variable. The analysis of the study suggested that supplier partnership influence supply chain performance, similarly innovation influence the supply chain performance, moreover moderating effect was also reported and demonstrated in analysis phase of the study by significant change in the effect of independent variables on dependent variables

    Moderating Effect of Information Sharing on the Relationship of Supply Chain Management Capabilities and Business Performance: A Study on the Indonesia Food Industry

    Indonesia is viewed as one of the biggest exporters and producer of foods and also plays an essential role in the development of Indonesia economy. Nevertheless, food industry provides help to the country to generate high level of income. To effect the performance of food industry, there are lot of factors. For this purpose, it is intensively challenging to choose that factor which effects more in the performance of food industry that could lead to a negative or the positive impact on another factor. Therefore, objective of the study is to explore the moderating effect of the information sharing on the relationship of supply chain management (SCM) capabilities and business performance (BP) of Indonesia food industry. Using cross sectional research design, 500 questionnaires were distributed among the supply chain managers of food industry by using a judgmental sampling technique which yield a 40% response rate. The data was analyzed by the Structural Equation Modeling technique. The key findings of the study have shown that SCM capabilities have positive and significant association with the BP. Similarly, it was also shown that information sharing significantly moderates within two components of SCM namely, strategic sourcing, technology capability and BP. Whereas has insignificant moderating effect on the relationship of logistic integration commitment and BP.  Hence, current study contributed some theoretical implications in the existing body of literature. The study limitations and future directions are also being discussed

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
