The results of the Delft Systematic Deadrise Series
In the present paper the development of the Delft Systematic Deadrise Series (DSDS) is described. The DSDS has been under development for decades by now and consists of a large family of systematically varied hard chine planing monohulls, based on the original research by Clement and Blount, which have all been tested in the same speed range, changing the same parameters and using the same experimental set up. The rationale behind the DSDS is highlighted. The DSDS contains up to now some 24 different models in 350 different conditions all tested in the same speed range between Fn∇ = 0.75 and Fn∇ = 3.0. Recently there has been a new extension to the DSDS with the inclusion of more measurements on hulls with twisted bottom and rocker in the aft ship. These results are presented in this paper.In addition detailed access is facilitated to all the hull geometries used into the DSDS and to all the raw measurement data obtained during the tests by means of free access to a dedicated website.Ship Hydromechanics and Structure
Business advice to fast growth small firms
A small proportion of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) create most new employment in the sector (Storey et al., 1987). Thus UK Business Link’s remit to provide advice to small firms with the potential to grow should maximise the employment impact of small firm advice. Yet, the risks involved in fast growth and the perceived need for visionary leadership constrains advisors from proffering that advice. This research uses data from 29 transcribed semi-structured research interviews and a group interview of 10 business advisors in the UK’s West Midlands region collected in Autumn 1996 to Spring 1997. The interviewees respond to a prompt for advice for a firm contemplating fast growth. This research suggests that in the implementation stage strategy toward small firms is subtly altered. The research suggests that advisors tend to offer general advice and support to all firms, and focus toward support for all, rather than targeting, and support to help companies survive, rather than grow. Given the importance of these fast growing firms to local employment the findings suggest that present business advice might reduce insolvency rather than increase the number of fast growth firms

The Weird Connection Between Tony Romo and Tony Roma’s
When Tony Romo joined the Dallas Cowboys back in 2003, some people confused his name with that of Tony Roma’s, the restaurant chain. They thought maybe Tony Romo was related to the Tony Roma family, perhaps heir to the baby back ribs fortune, even though there was an important one letter of difference at the end of the names. Everybody knows by now that there is no relationship between Tony Romo and Tony Roma’s, but there is quite a deep connection between the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Roma’s that few people know about.
Back in 1976, the Dallas Cowboys played the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl X in Miami, a game the Cowboys lost by four points. After the game, Clint Murchison, Jr., owner and founder of the Dallas Cowboys, went to dine at the only Tony Roma’s restaurant in existence at the time. It was in North Miami. He was so impressed with the ribs and the cole slaw, that in legendary Texas style, he said to himself, “I like this restaurant. I think I’ll buy it and move it to Texas.”
These quick draw decisions were not unusual for Murchison. He was once forced to spend a good deal of time with bankers in New York City and soon found himself frustrated that he couldn’t get a decent bowl of chili or good smoked brisket. So, he did the only rational thing a rich Texan could do. He opened his own restaurant there in Manhattan. He called it The Dallas Cowboy. It served classic Texas chili and smoked brisket. Problem solved.
Back to Tony Roma’s. Clint Murchison couldn’t buy the original Tony Roma’s because Tony wouldn’t sell it. But Clint did buy the franchise rights. Within just a few years, there were Tony Roma’s in Manhattan (giving Murchison a second place to get food he liked when he was stranded in New York), Hollywood, Dallas – and the headquarters soon moved to Dallas (well, Plano to be exact) where it remained until just last year.
It could be said that Clint Murchison, Jr. started two great franchises in his life – the Dallas Cowboys and Tony Roma’s. The Dallas Cowboys are today the most valuable team in the NFL. In fact, at 300 million a year. That’s a lot of ribs, y’all. And now they’ve added lamb ribs to their newest menu.
Just as the Cowboys are known worldwide, Tony Roma’s is, too; 150 restaurants in 30 countries on six continents. You can eat at Tony Roma’s in Madrid, in Tokyo, in Bangkok, Lima, Dubai, Kuala Lumpur, where there are eight to choose from, or at locations right here in Texas. Yes, Clint Murchison, Jr. gave us the sacred tradition of watching the gladiators of the gridiron on Sunday afternoons and he gave us the food to watch ‘em with, too. Now, that’s a mighty fine accomplishment. A mighty fine man.

Tagging of Biomedical Articles on CiteULike: A Comparison of User, Author and Professional Indexing
This paper examines the context of online indexing from the viewpoint of three different groups: users, authors, and professional indexers. User tags, author keywords and descriptors were collected from academic journal articles, which were both indexed in Pubmed and tagged on CiteULike, and analysed. Descriptive statistics, informetric measures, and thesaural term comparison shows that there are important differences in the use of keywords between the three groups in addition to similarities which can be used to enhance support for search and browse. While tags and author keywords were found that matched descriptors exactly, other terms which did not match but provided important expansion to the indexing lexicon were found. These additional terms could be used to enhance support for searching and browsing in article databases as well as to provide invaluable data for entry vocabulary and emergent terminology for regular updates to indexing systems. Additionally, the study suggests that tags support organisation by association to task, projects and subject while making important connections to traditional systems which classify into subject categories

An alternating frequency-time harmonic balance method for fast-slow dynamical systems
The Alternating Frequency-Time (AFT) Harmonic Balance method has been widely applied in the analysis of non-linear mechanical systems under periodic excitation. Customarily, a periodic displacement is considered as ansatz in a harmonic balance analysis. In the present work, a deviation from the latter ansatz is realized and the periodicity is assumed in the velocity, leading to a linear term in the displacement of the system. The latter approach aims to facilitate the analysis of a certain class of systems, which are characterized by a fast periodic motion and a slow non-periodic motion. The motivation of this study originates in the area of offshore engineering and more specifically in the topic of monopile installation. During vibratory pile installation, the pile is forced into the soil under the combined action of a periodic excitation at the pile top and the self-weight of the pile and the vibratory device. As a result, the pile simultaneously penetrates into the soil as a rigid body (slow motion) and vibrates in the driving frequency and its super-harmonics both as a rigid and a flexible body (fast motion). In this study, the AFT harmonic balance with the ansatz of periodic velocity is implemented in different problem cases. # Fast Event-based Double Integral for Real-time Robotics (Academic Use Only)

Motion deblurring is a critical ill-posed problem that is important in many vision-based robotics applications. The recently proposed event-based double integral (EDI) provides a theoretical framework for solving the deblurring problem with the event camera and generating clear images at high frame-rate. However, the original EDI is mainly designed for offline computation and does not support real-time requirement in many robotics applications. In this paper, we propose the fast EDI, an efficient implementation of EDI that can achieve real-time online computation on single-core CPU devices, which is common for physical robotic platforms used in practice. In experiments, our method can handle event rates at as high as 13 million event per second in a wide variety of challenging lighting conditions. Its benefit has been demonstrated on multiple downstream real-time applications, including localization, visual tag detection, and feature matching.

Effects of Moritella viscosa antigens on pro-inflammatory gene expression in an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus) cell line (SHK-1)
Moritella viscosa is the causative agent of winter ulcer disease in salmonids reared in North-Atlantic countries. In this study the effects of selected M. viscosa antigens on cytotoxicity and pro-inflammatory gene expression in an Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar Linnaeus) macrophage-like cell line (SHK-1) were examined. SHK-1 cells were stimulated with live and heat-killed bacterial cells, extracellular products (ECP) and an extracellular vibriolysin, termed MvP1. Following incubation, cytotoxicity and expression levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) were examined at different time points. Both live M. viscosa cells and ECP were cytotoxic, but neither heat-killed cells, nor the MvP1 peptidase caused cell death. Expression levels of both IL-1β and IL-8 increased significantly after stimulation with live cells, but heat-killed cells only caused increased IL-8 expression. ECP did not affect IL-1β expression, but did stimulate IL-8 expression. The isolated MvP1 peptidase stimulated both IL-1β and IL-8 expression at the highest concentration tested.
