On Optimization of Semi-stable Routing in Multicommodity Flow Networks
Ideally, the network should be dynamically reconfigured as traffic evolves. Unfortunately, even in SDN paradigm, network reconfigurations cannot be too frequent due to a number of reasons related to route stability, forwarding rules instantiation, individual flows dynamics, traffic monitoring overhead, etc. In this paper, we focus on the fundamental problem of deciding whether, when, and how to reconfigure the network during traffic evolution. We consider a problem of optimizing semi-stable routing in the capacitated multicommodity flow network when one may use at most a given maximum number of routing configurations (called clusters) and when each routing configuration must be used for at least a given minimum amount of time. We propose a solution method based on cluster generation that provides a good lower bound on the minimum network delay (i.e., the total of link delays) and scales well with the size of the network

We thank Dr Spence for his interest in the 2020 International Society of Hypertension (ISH) Global Hypertension Practice Guidelines and highlighting what he considers blind spots in the new guidelines. Specifically, the author is concerned that Liddle syndrome, one of the rare monogenic causes of hypertension is not mentioned and its treatment not appropriately addressed in the 2020 ISH guidelines. Dr Spence provides insightful comments describing the central role of the epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) in Liddle syndrome which is responsible for its clinical features including early onset of salt-sensitive hypertension, hypokalemic metabolic alkalosis, and suppression of both renin and aldosterone secretion. Importantly, Liddle syndrome is associated with increased incidence
of premature cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events and usually unresponsive to mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods

Recenzuojamas veikalas: Olga Filaszkiewicz, Respublica Academica Vilnensis. Polskie stowarzyszenia ideowo-wychowawcze studentów Uniwersytetu Stefana Batorego w Wilnie w latach 1919–1939, Wydawnictwo PWZS w Elblągu, Elbląg, 2014. Stepono Batoro universiteto (SBU) Vilniuje studentijos istoriją nagrinėjo jau daug lenkų tyrinėtojų: Szełkowski; Srebrakowski; Filaszkiewicz; Laszczkowski; Wołłejko; Tomaszewski; Dolecka; Tarkowski; Wasilewski; Gawrońska-Garstka; Błaszczak. Recenzuojama knyga – tai Olgos Filaškievič (Olga Filaszkiewicz) pagerinta 2014 m. apgintos daktarinės disertacijos versija. Jos monografijoje bandoma rekonstruoti lenkų studentų idėjinių ugdomųjų draugijų, veikusių prie SBU, politinį gyvenimą. Darbas struktūruotas laikantis probleminio principo, bet išlaikant chronologiją kai aprašoma tirtų studentų organizacijų istorija. Autorė stengėsi atskleisti atskirų studentiškų organizacijų politines pažiūras, o tam reikėjo remtis politinės minties tyrinėtojų teoriniais darbais. Dėl to recenzijoje išsakoma nemažai pastabų. An optimization model for robust FSO network dimensioning
FSO (Free Space Optics) is a well established wireless optical transmission technology considered as an alternative to radio communications, for example in metropolitan wireless mesh networks. An FSO link is established by means of a laser beam connecting the transmitter and the receiver placed in the line of sight. A major disadvantage of FSO links (with respect to fiber links) is their sensitivity to weather conditions such as fog, rain and snow, causing substantial loss of the transmission power over the optical channel due mostly to absorption and scattering. Thus, although the FSO technology allows for fast and low-cost deployment of broadband networks, its operation will be affected by this sensitivity, manifested by substantial losses in links' transmission capacity with respect to the nominal capacity. Therefore, a proper approach to FSO network dimensioning should take such losses into account so that the level of carried traffic is satisfactory under all observed weather conditions. In the paper we describe such an approach. We introduce a relevant dimensioning problem and present a robust optimization algorithm for such enhanced dimensioning. A substantial part of the paper is devoted to present a numerical study of two FSO network instances that illustrates the promising effectiveness of the proposed approach
