Effects of kefir on coccidial oocysts excretion and performance of dairy goat kids following weaning
No full textThe aim of this study was to investigate effects of kefir, a traditional source of probiotic, on coccidial oocysts excretion and on the performance of dairy goat kids following weaning. Twin kids were randomly allocated to one of two groups at weaning. Kids of the first group received 20 ml of kefir daily for 6 weeks (KEF), while kids in the control group were given a placebo (CON). Individual faecal samples were regularly ( = 18 per kid) taken to quantify the number of coccidial oocysts per gram of faeces (OpG). There were no differences between the groups in terms of body weight development ( > 0.05) and feed consumption. Kids of both groups were not able to consume enough feed to meet their nutrient requirements during the first 3 weeks following weaning. KEF had a lower frequency of OpG positive samples than CON ( = 0.043). Kefir did not affect the maximum oocyst excretion and age of the kids at the highest oocyst excretion ( > 0.05). KEF shed numerically 35% lower coccidial oocysts than the controls, which corresponded to a statistical tendency ( = 0.074) in lowering Log-OpG in comparison to CON. While KEF had a lower frequency of OpG positive samples and tended to shed lower OPG by around one-third, the frequency of diarrhea, level of highest oocyst excretion, and performance of the kids remained unaffected. Therefore, it is concluded that overall effects of kefir do not have a significant impact on sub-clinical infection and performance in weaned kids under relatively high-hygienic farming conditions
Cemil Kavukçu as a novelist
No full textCemil Kavukçu, 1980 sonrası gelişen Türk edebiyatının önemli yazarlarından biridir. Öykü, roman, deneme, anı, çocuk edebiyatı gibi türlerde eserler veren sanatçı, daha çok öykü türünde kaleme aldığı eserleriyle tanmış ve "öykücü" sıfatına mazhar olmuştur. Üretken bir yazar olan Cemil Kavukçu, eserlerinde kullandığı dil ve üslup açısından Sait Faik, Memduh Şevket Esendal, Oğuz Atay gibi isimlerin etkisinde kalır. Bunun yanında, edebiyatımızın birçok türünde eser verebilecek yetkinliğe ve bakış açısına sahip olan Kavukçu'nun daha çok öykü türünde kaleme aldığı metinleri inceleme ve araştırma konusu edilmiştir. Bu durum, yazarın "romancı" kimliğinin arka planda kalmasına neden olmuştur. Cemil Kavukçu, 1998 yılından itibaren Dönüş romanıyla, altı öykü kitabından sonra yeni bir türe geçiş yapar. Dönüş'ün ardından 2004 yılında Suda Bulanık Oyunlar'ı kaleme alan yazar, 2005 yılının Aralık ayında yayımladığı Gamba romanıyla kendisi için yeni bir tür olan romanda olgunlaşma evresine geçer. Yazarın Türk edebiyatı ekseninde, öykü türündeki başarısı yadsınamaz bir gerçektir. Fakat, Kavukçu'yu tek bir tür yazarı olarak düşünmek, kendisine ve yazarlığına bir haksızlık oluşturur. Nitekim, onun üç romanı olan Dönüş, Suda Bulanık Oyunlar ve Gamba romanını, bilimsel ve edebî açıdan incelemek, edebiyat tarihimiz ve yazarın romancı kimliği açısından önemlidir. Bu açıdan bakıldığında, araştırmamızın konusu, yüksek lisans tezine başlığını veren Cemil Kavukçu'nun romancı yönü ve romanları olacaktır. Çalışmamızın giriş bölümünde, öncelikli olarak Batı edebiyatında roman türünün doğuşu ve gelişiminden söz edilecektir. Arkasından roman türünün Türk edebiyatındaki tarihi seyri üzerinde durulacaktır. Giriş kısmında, özellikle Cemil Kavukçu'nun içerisinde bulunduğu 1980 sonrası Türk romanı, modern/postmodern roman kavramları üzerinde durulacaktır. Birinci bölümde ise, ilk etapta, Cemil Kavukçu'nun yaşamı üzerinden doğumuna, çocukluk ve gençlik yıllarına, ailesine, evliliğine ve iş hayatına değinilecektir. Bu kısımlarda, sanatçının yazarlığını ve edebî kişiliğini etkileyen unsurlardan söz edilecektir. Ardından Kavukçu'nun edebî kişiliği açıklanacak ve son olarak yapıtlarına yer verilecektir. İkinci bölümde, tezin asıl inceleme konusunu oluşturan, Cemil Kavukçu'nun kaleme aldığı Dönüş, Suda Bulanık Oyunlar ve Gamba romanları üzerinde durulacaktır. Romanların detaylı ve sistemli bir şekilde tahlili yapılacak, Kavukçu'nun romancı hüviyeti ortaya konacaktır. Tahlil esnasında, bilimsel ve edebî açıdan Şerif Aktaş'ın ve Nurullah Çetin'in roman çözümleme yöntemlerinden yararlanılacaktır. The artist, who produced works in genres such as short stories, novels, essays, memoirs, and children's literature, was known for his works in the genre of short stories and earned the title of "storyteller". A prolific writer, Cemil Kavukçu was influenced by names such as Sait Faik, Memduh Şevket Esendal, and Oğuz Atay in terms of the language and style he used in his works. In addition, the texts written by Kavukçu, who has the competence and perspective of producing works in many genres of our literature, have been the subject of examination and research. This situation caused the author's "novelist" identity to remain in the background. Cemil Kavukçu switched to a new genre after 6 storybooks with his novel Dönüş since 1998.The author, who wrote Suda Bulanık Oyunlar in 2004 after Dönüş, enters the maturation phase in a novel that is a new genre for him, with the novel Gamba published in December 2005. It is an undeniable fact that the author's success in the genre of short stories on the axis of Turkish literature. However, to think of Kavukçu as a single genre writer would be unfair to him and his authorship. As a matter of fact, examining his three novels, Dönüş, Suda Bulanık Oyunlar and Gamba from a scientific and literary perspective is important for our literary history and the novelist identity of the author. From this point of view, the subject of our research will be the novelist aspect and novels of Cemil Kavukçu, who gave the title to his master's thesis. In the introductory part of our study, first of all, the birth and development of the novel genre in Western literature will be mentioned.Then, the historical course of the novel genre in Turkish literature will be emphasized. In the introduction, the post-1980 Turkish novel, in which Cemil Kavukçu is in particular, and the concepts of modern/postmodern novel will be emphasized. In the first part, in the first place, Cemil Kavukçu's birth, childhood and youth years, family, marriage and business life will be discussed. In these parts, the factors affecting the authorship and literary personality of the artist will be mentioned. Then, Kavukçu's literary personality will be explained and finally his works will be included. In the second part, the main subject of the thesis will be focused on the novels Dön, Suda Bulanık Oyunlar and Gamba written by Cemil Kavukçu. The novels will be analyzed in a detailed and systematic way, and Kavukçu's novelist identity will be revealed.During the analysis, scientific and literary analysis methods of Şerif Aktaş and Nurullah Çetin will be used. On the basis of new materials recently discovered both in the central and in the repositories of regional libraries in Russia, the article reveals new facets of his work and introduces many clarifications into the development of the author’s scientific biography. Attention is paid to the rich journalistic component of his work. The appendix to the article contains unknown poetic works of the author relating to the period of the First World War
Boş Zamanlar’ın Dedikodusu: Cemil Kavukçu’nun Öykülerinde Bellek, Taşra ve Can Sıkıntısı
No full textCemil Kavukcu (b. 1951) made his mark in Turkish literature, especially in the 1990s. In the stories that he published in Bos Zamanlar (Spare Times) (2022), he draws attention to dilemmas in the inner worlds of individuals who have experienced both provincial and urban life. Spare Times, including six stories, one of which is three-layered, deals with people who are stuck between bygone days and childhood, provincial life and modernism, boredom and crisis, escape and sanctuary, emptiness and routine. Kavukcu, who had a provincial life in his childhood and first flush of youth, lived in the city during his university years and career, which reflects in his stories as significant autobiographical experiences in terms of conveying both collective subjects bored with ordinary and repeating relationships of provincial sociology, and crises and distress of urbanites to the fiction. While a bourgeois individual tries to push back the clock and write new stories to get rid of boredom, people in the province attempt to get rid of the vicious cycle of life by making up stories and exchanging gossip. The stories in the book have strong autobiographical references through his fictional author figuration, which shows that Kavukcu also does not have any other remedy but to create new stories and write in the same state of boredom. In this article, I tried to bring the author's reality into a connection with the past, childhood, province, boredom and crisis by examining their impacts on story creation in Cemil Kavukcu's Spare Times

No full textÖzetBir konuyu diğer bir konunun bakış açısıyla algılama veya zihindeki bilgiler arasında bir bağ kurma süreci olarak ifade edilen metafor kavramı, edebiyatta yaygın bir kullanıma sahiptir. Zira antik dönemden günümüze kadar birçok yazarın metaforun kavramıyla ilişkilendirdikleri kavramları çok değişik şekillerde ele aldıkları ve bu kavramları eserlerinin merkezine yerleştirdikleri görülmektedir. Metafor kavramının felsefe, sosyoloji, psikoloji başta olmak üzere pek çok disiplinden beslenen edebiyat alanındaki kullanımı; sanatçıya kullandığı kelimelerde farklı anlam katmanları oluşturma olanağı vermektedir. Bu anlamda çağdaş Amerikan edebiyatından Jack Kerouac’ın (1922-1969) Yolda (On The Road) ve 20. yüzyıl Türk edebiyatından da Cemil Kavukçu’nun (1951- ) Gamba adlı romanlarında eserlerin odağına yerleştirilen ‘yol’ olgusu metafor kavramıyla ilişkilendirilerek ele alınmıştır. Bu çalışmada ‘yol metaforu’nun hangi anlam ilişkileriyle ortaya konduğu; felsefi, sosyolojik, ezoterik, mistik ve metafizik başta olmak üzere ne tür anlam bağlantıları oluşturacak şekilde kullanıldığı tespit edilmeye çalışılmıştır. However it has seen that numerous authors from ancient time to modern time have handled many different terms which is associated the term of metaphor and have focused on these terms in their own works. The usage of metaphor that nourishes lots of branches such philosophy, sociology, psychology lets author compose different meanings with the words chosen. In this sense the term of ‘road’ which situated in Jack Kerouac’s (1922-1969) On The Road in modern American literature and Cemil Kavulçu’s (1951- ) Gamba in modern Turkish literature have been handled associating with metaphor. Some Behavioral Traits of the Japanese Quails (Coturnix coturnix japonica) Rearing in Cages
No full textIn this study, some behaviors of the Japanese quails, raised in cages, such as feeding (F), drinking (D), activation (A), lying (L), standing (S), feather pecking (FP) and aggressive pecking (AP) were observed once a week between 10:30 and 11:30 am. The behavioral observations for 20 quails were launched when the quails were 3 days of age and continued for 5 weeks. In the study, where the time-sampling method was applied, the behavioral traits observed once in every 5 min during a 4 h observation were recorded. The Japanese quails at the first 5 weeks of age displayed feeding and drinking behaviors most in the study. Activation and lying behaviors were observed at close frequencies whereas feather pecking and aggressive pecking behaviors occurred at rather low levels. The feeding behavior was observed 0.40 times more at a significant level in the 1st week than in the 5th week (p<0.01). The feeding behavior, which occurred at the highest level in the first week, had a descending course and was observed at the lowest level in the 5th week. It was observed that the feeding behavior in the other weeks was 0.36 times lower in the 2nd week, 0.31 times lower in the 3rd week and 0.19 times lower in the 4th week than in the 5th week. The feeding behavior was at an insignificant level between the first 3 weeks and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th weeks. It was found out that the Japanese female quails displayed feeding behavior 0.22 times more at a significant level than the male quails (p<0.01)
A brief report on intra-species aggressive biting in a goat herd
No full textThis study aimed at analysing the effects of age, horn and places on biting and butting as intraspecies aggressive activities. Seventy-two Turkish Saanen goats were used as animal material and 22,686 aggressive behaviours were recorded in different places from a total of 118 h direct observation. Of the observations of aggressive behaviours, 32.7% was biting behaviour and the rest was butting behaviour. The frequency of biting behaviour in 3 or more years old goats was significantly higher than that of biting behaviour in 1 and 2 years old animals (P < 0.01). The observations revealed that horned or hornless goats exhibited biting behaviour; however the frequency of biting behaviour in hornless goats was 2.38 times higher than in homed goats (P < 0.01). Biting and butting behaviours were found to be well correlated with the area of places (P < 0.01). As the area of places got narrowed, the frequency of biting increased. However, such a trend was not observed in butting behaviour. The frequency of butting behaviour again increased with the increase in social hierarchy (P < 0.01), whereas the frequency of biting behaviour was not affected by social hierarchy (P = 0.30). In conclusion, intra-species biting behaviour, which is thought to have developed as a result of hom absence, should be questioned whether this is unique to the herd or to the genotype. On the instability of nonlinear functional differential equations of fifth order

Our technical approach is based on the construction of two suitable Lyapunov type functionals. An example is given to illustrate the obtained results. The main results here improve recent results found on the topic in the literature from the case of without delay to the delay case.El autor presenta condiciones suficientes para la existencia de soluciones periódicas de dos ecuaciones diferenciales con retraso de alto orden.
