Review: Icelandic in Tokyo Institute of Technology Multilingual Speech Corpus #2: An Inquiry into Dialectal Features
The author reviewed an Icelandic speech database, PBtext Corpus, compiled by Tokyo Institute of Technology in his previous work and pointed out that one of the speakers consistently read aloud interrogative sentences with an unusual rising intonation. From several earlier studies in Icelandic dialects, it could be inferred that this unusual intonation is one regional traits in northern Iceland. However, the question still remains unsolved since the corpus provides almost no information on the speakers. In this short report, the author attempts to find out some dialectal traits from the database and demonstrate that the speaker with the unusual rising tune is a speaker of a northern dialect.journal articl

Foreign tourist’s perceptions towards transport information and services using Twitter data mining: The case of typhoons in Japan
Sunkyung Choi is a specially appointed lecturer (associate professor) at the School of Environment and Society, Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan. She has earned Ph.D. in transport planning and engineering. Her research interest includes tourism crisis management, tourism statistics and big data analysis, airport operation in disasters, and information provision for foreigners in disasters.
Shinya Hanaoka is a Professor at the School of Environment and Society, Tokyo Institute of Technology. He has worked as a Researcher for the Institute for Transport Policy Studies in Tokyo (1999-2003), an Assistant Professor for the Asian Institute of Technology (2003-2007), and a Visiting Researcher for the Institute for Transport Studies, University of Leeds (2002). He has authored and co-authored numerous journal articles and has participated in private and government-funded transport research projects. His research interests include transport logistics, transport development studies, air transport, and transport infrastructure management.Past disasters highlighted the negative perceptions of foreigner tourists with information and services. In terms of the frequency of disasters, the vulnerability of transport information and services during typhoon disasters has a great impact on foreigners, especially foreign tourists. And social media has the potential to provide an additional stream of data that used for understanding the public’s perceptions, especially during disasters. Therefore, a methodological framework for interpreting foreigners’ perceptions towards transport information and services from Twitter during typhoon disasters is presented in this research. A case study in Typhoon Faxai and Hagibis is used to implement the presented framework. A web crawler has been developed to extract tweets data posted within Japan from September 7 to 15, October 7 to 21, 2019. Second, after data pre-processing, basic text mining methods including Word Cloud and Co-Occurrence Network are conducted. Third, an embedding BERT topic model is built to generate topics of public and official side. Finally, evaluate perceived service quality quantified by sentiment scores using Topic-based VADER sentiment analysis
Millimeter-wave photonic wireless links for very-high data rate communication
[[abstract]]In this paper, recent progress in millimeter-wave (MMW) photonic gigabit wireless communication is reviewed. This technique is attractive partly because the MMW signal can be easily distributed from central to base stations through the use of a low-loss optical fiber. This radio-over-fiber approach facilitates the transmission of MMW signals. An MMW photonic transmitter, comprised of high-power photodiodes with integrated antennas for MMW signal broadcasting, is needed for signal generation only over the last mile. The development of several different low-noise optical MMW sources and high-power photonic transmitters and photodiodes for optical MMW wireless links is summarized. The performance of photonic wireless links with extremely high data rates (>10 Gbit s–1) developed based on these key components and using different modulation schemes is also reviewed. P(論文)The author has had extensive experience in carrying out and evaluating distance education projects. In this paper he discusses a series of projects he has been involved in over a twenty-year time period in Japan. Many of these were centered at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, which has carried out a varied assortment of pilot programs in distance education, using fiber optic cable between its two campuses. Research carried out in Tokyo Institute of Technology. The objective is to determine the influence of Interfacial Transition Zone (ITZ) around Lightweight aggregate in concrete on Chloride ion diffusivity. The ITZ of conventional concretes is the weakest point of concrete. The accumulating water on ITZ zone forms the most permeable area inside the concrete. Hence ITZ paves the way for chloride ion diffusion. The quality of ITZ depends on type and quality of aggregates used, water-cement ratio and also the method used for the production of concrete. It has been used two types of lightweight aggregates will be used, Chinese and Japanese, with different absorption capacities. The idea is to produce concrete with same effective water - cement ratio, using the same aggregates in two different conditions, dry and saturated, and compare the chloride ion diffusivity in these concretes (by diffusion test). A comparison of ITZ thickness of these concretes by SEM and EDAX-maps is also proposed. The chloride ion diffusion of concretes produced with the same effective water – cement ratio and same aggregates (dry and ssd) will depend, mainly, on ITZ

End Proctoring-Due to the rapid growth, tourism in Japan has been receiving significant attention from the Japanese government and has been placed as a key policy. Japan is a country prone to several natural disasters like earthquake, typhoon, flood etc. In light of this vulnerability, the central government and local municipalities have worked towards evacuation planning to secure safety of foreign tourists. This study aims to develop suggestions for better regional tourism evacuation shelter planning targeting both Japanese and foreign tourists. The main research objectives are to understand 1) evacuation experience of Japanese during past disasters; 2) intended evacuation behaviour and preference of Japanese under Tokyo Metropolitan Earthquake scenario; and 3) impact of presence of foreign tourists on evacuation shelter choice of Japanese in case of an emergency. We conduct a local resident survey to identify the need of dedicated evacuation shelter planning as disaster preparedness for foreign tourists in Japan. End Proctoring

A Note on Petty's Theorem
