Correlation between body mass index, waist circumference and cardiovascular risk in young students of Popayán, Colombia
[Molano-Tobar NJ, Vélez-Tobar RA, Molano-Tobar DX. Adolescence is the stage of greatest biological, psychological and social vulnerability, with regard to the development and acquisition of lifestyle habits; thus the need to identify and monitor factors such as obesity and cardiovascular risk. Objective. Correlate body mass index, waist circumference and cardiovascular risk in young students of Popayán, Colombia. Methodology. Descriptivecorrelati with a sample of 1,105 students of an average age of 13.47±1.09 years between August 2014 and December 2015. The body mass index, waist circumference and blood pressure were evaluated. Results. Most of the students’ parameters were normal in terms of body mass index (normal weight 44.6%, overweight 20.2% and obese 28.9%) and blood pressure. A general increase in abdominal girth (39.3%) was detected. Discussion. Although the students’ values were normal in contrast with the existing literature, there is an anticipated risk in relation to cardiovascular indices, which, according to international research, gives rise to follow-up and assessment of significant biological markers that determine major health issues. Conclusions. It is clear that the students’ values are normal for most of the variables, except for waist circumference. An increased risk was found in women, which allows us to establish a high and very high correlation that contrasts with cardiovascular risk. [Molano-Tobar NJ, Vélez-Tobar RA, Molano- Tobar DX. 3. Univ Talca, Dpto Econ Agr, Talca, ChileThe growing demand for the consumption of organic foods at worldwide level presents sales increasing by over five thousand million dollars per year. Demands extended to development countries like it is the Chilean case, which exports 90% of its production getting an internal market with low development for this type of products. The research tries to identify the constructs to characterize the potential consumers of organic foods. A survey was applied to 422 consumers to carry out the research in the Maule Region, central Chile (C. I. = 95.5%; e = 3.0%). The Information was analyzed through multivariante technic denominated factor analysis of principal components. The main results of the research reveal the existence of four dimensions or constructs, corresponding to: (1) benefits of the organic agriculture; (2) healthy feeding; (3) lifestyles; (4) attribute of organic foods. These four factors influence in the attitude and purchase intention for the consumers toward the organic foods. In addition being key elements when formulating market strategies for organic products
Goya en El Artista y el Semanario Pintoresco Español
Both the personality and the work of the Aragonese painter Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) have generated a copious and intense artistic reaction among his contemporaries and later artists, down to the present. The work of professor Romero Tobar studies Goya's presence in the two major illustrated magazines of the Romantic years. Testing Lorentz invariance using an asymetric optical resonator
Recent experiments utilizing resonant cavities have produced remarkable results that limit the level of any possible violation of Lorentz Invariance. However, within the framework of the Standard Model Extension (SME) one parameter κtr remains significantly under-constrained compared to the other parameters. It has been shown an asymmetric optical resonator will be sensitive to violations of LI and specifically much more sensitive to κtr than conventional resonators. In this experiment such an asymmetric resonator is compared to a linear sapphire cavity with the measurement system is based on a 1064 nm YAG laser locked to the resonances of both cavities.F.
