Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

Get PDFThe article identifies, on the basis of statistical data, the peculiarities of criminal law response to high treason and collaboration. The proportion of persons convicted of high treason and collaboration has been increasing every year. Of all the forms of collaboration, only “informational” collaboration, as provided for in Part 1 of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, demonstrates a decrease in the proportion of convicted persons in 2024, while the proportion of convicted persons for all other forms of collaboration increased compared to previous years. In terms of the criminal legal response to high treason in 2022-2024, against the background of an increase in the number of convicted persons under Parts 1 and 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the following main trends took place a small number of persons sentenced to life imprisonment (5%), approximately 95% of the convicts were sentenced to imprisonment for a fixed term; imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years was also imposed on 95% of the convicts; those convicted of high treason were sentenced to such additional punishments as deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities (on average - 18% of convicts), confiscation of property (on average - 84% of convicts) and deprivation of military rank, rank, rank or qualification class (on average - 4% of convicts). In terms of the criminal legal response to the commission of collaboration in 2022-2024, against the background of an increase in the number of convicted persons under parts of Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the following main trends took place: the following types of basic punishments were imposed on convicts for committing collaboration (all forms): imprisonment (9 persons (or 5%) in 2022, 139 persons (or 27%) in 2023, 500 persons (or 52%) in 2024); in 2024, the variability of the courts’ choice of the main types of basic punishments for persons convicted under Art. 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which was effectively reduced to imposing under parts 1 and 2 of this article the basic punishment of deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities, and under parts 3-7 of Art. 111-1 of the CC the punishment of imprisonment for a certain term, and in some cases - a fine.У статті визначено на основі статистичних даних особливості кримінально-правового реагування на вчинення державної зради та колабораційної діяльності. Питома вага осіб, засуджених за державну зраду та колабораційну діяльність, щороку збільшувалася. З усіх форм колабораційної діяльності лише «інформаційний» колабораціонізм, передбачений ч. 1 ст. 111-1 Кримінального кодексу України, демонструє зниження питомої ваги засуджених осіб у 2024 році, тоді як питома вага засуджених осіб за всі інші форми колабораціонізму зростала порівняно з попередніми роками. В аспекті кримінально-правового реагування на вчинення державної зради протягом 2022–2024 років на тлі збільшення кількості засуджених за частинами 1 та 2 ст. 111 Кримінального кодексу України, мали місце такі основні тенденції: незначна кількість осіб, засуджених до довічного позбавлення волі (5%), приблизно для 95% засуджених призначалося покарання у виді позбавлення волі на певний строк; позбавлення волі на строк від 10 до 15 років призначалося також для 95% засуджених; засудженим за державну зраду призначалися такі додаткові покарання, як позбавлення права обіймати певні посади або займатися певною діяльністю (у середньому – 18% засуджених), конфіскація майна (у середньому – 84% засуджених) та позбавлення військового звання, рангу, чину або кваліфікаційного класу (у середньому – 4% засуджених). В аспекті кримінально-правового реагування на вчинення колабораційної діяльності протягом 2022–2024 років на тлі збільшення кількості засуджених за частинами ст. 111-1 Кримінального кодексу України, мали місце такі основні тенденції: за вчинення колабораційної діяльності (усі форми) засудженим призначалися такі види основних покарань: позбавлення волі (9 осіб (або 5%) у 2022 році, 139 осіб (або 27%), у 2023 році, 500 осіб (або 52%) у 2024 році); у 2024 році зменшилася варіативність вибору судами основних видів основних покарань для осіб, засуджених за ст. 111-1 Кримінального кодексу України, яка фактично була зведена до призначення за частинами 1 та 2 цієї статті основного покарання у виді позбавлення права обіймати певні посади або займатися певною діяльністю, а за частинами 3–7 ст. 111-1 КК покарання у виді позбавлення волі на певний строк, а в окремих випадках – штрафу
