Relevance, benefits, and problems of software modelling and model driven techniques—A survey in the Italian industry
Context Claimed benefits of software modelling and model driven techniques are improvements in productivity, portability, maintainability and interoperability. However, little effort has been devoted at collecting evidence to evaluate their actual relevance, benefits and usage complications. Goal The main goals of this paper are: (1) assess the diffusion and relevance of software modelling and MD techniques in the Italian industry, (2) understand the expected and achieved benefits, and (3) identify which problems limit/prevent their diffusion. Method We conducted an exploratory personal opinion survey with a sample of 155 Italian software professionals by means of a Web-based questionnaire on-line from February to April 2011. Results Software modelling and MD techniques are very relevant in the Italian industry. The adoption of simple modelling brings common benefits (better design support, documentation improvement, better maintenance, and higher software quality), while MD techniques make it easier to achieve: improved standardization, higher productivity, and platform independence. We identified problems, some hindering adoption (too much effort required and limited usefulness) others preventing it (lack of competencies and supporting tools). Conclusions The relevance represents an important objective motivation for researchers in this area. The relationship between techniques and attainable benefits represents an instrument for practitioners planning the adoption of such techniques. In addition the findings may provide hints for companies and universitie
Genotype class of polymorphic loci between wild type Tiso-Wt and selected Tiso-S2M2.

Class 1 shows polymorphisms generated by a mutation event. Wild allele (A) and mutated allele (B) were observed in Tiso-S2M2. Class 2 shows polymorphisms generated by selection events only. Only one allele, (A) or (B) was observed in Tiso-S2M2 strain, whereas the two alleles were found in Tiso-Wt strain. Class 3 shows polymorphisms generated by both mutation and selection events. Only the allele (B) was detected in Tiso-S2M2.</p
POD-DEIM model order reduction for strain softening viscoplasticity
We demonstrate a Model Order Reduction technique for a system of nonlinear equations arising from the Finite Element Method (FEM) discretization of the three-dimensional quasistatic equilibrium equation equipped with a Perzyna viscoplasticity constitutive model. The procedure employs the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition-Galerkin (POD-G) in conjunction with the Discrete Empirical Interpolation Method (DEIM). For this purpose, we collect samples from a standard full order FEM analysis in the offline phase and cluster them using a novel kk-means clustering algorithm. The POD and the DEIM algorithms are then employed to construct a corresponding reduced order model. In the online phase, a sample from the current state of the system is passed, at each time step, to a nearest neighbor classifier in which the cluster that best describes it is identified. The force vector and its derivative with respect to the displacement vector are approximated using DEIM, and the system of nonlinear equations is projected onto a lower dimensional subspace using the POD-G. The constructed reduced order model is applied to two typical solid mechanics problems showing strain-localization (a tensile bar and a wall under compression) and a three-dimensional square-footing problem
Josef Tiso into Slovak Historiography
This thesis is devoted to Jozef Tiso. It deals with the time of his reign amd the subsequent evaluation of his goverment in slovak historiography. It comes partly from authors who directly collaborated with Jozef Tiso as well as from those who are against this person strongly determine the events between 1948 does not forget nor authors who have worked abroad and then in 1989 returned to Slovakia. It is also the current controversies about Jozef Tiso, which are still present among Slovak historians. A separate chapter is devoted to the Catholic Church and its attitude to Jozef Tiso

Jozef Tiso as a live political issue
The bachelor's thesis deals with the handling of the image of Jozef Tiso in contemporary Slovak society. The time elapsed from the existence of the first Slovak Republic guarantees that there is still enough people personally involved with. This situation in the Slovak society is continually reflected by an unprecedented level of amateur or professional contributions to the unfinished quest for an imaginary objective truth. Because the heritage of Tiso is still active, it is appropriate to analyze those groups for which the politics is alive. It should provide a basic overview and the analysis of the reason why some parts of the society approach to the rehabilitation of Tiso and then the whole system

Dynamic Time Warping and Cross Correlation for the estimation of cell movements in conjunctival capillaries: a comparison through simulation
We wish to assess the performance of an automatic analysis of video sequences of conjunctival vessels, digitally imaged with high enough magnification to resolve movement of the blood within the vessel. With a previously developed algorithm, from each vessel and from each frame we extract a one dimensional signal representing the longitudinal variation of gray level along the vessel, which is related to the presence of red blood cells. Then we estimate the local shift of the signals of a vessel between different frames, using a modified dynamic-time-warping approach. Since manual tracking of cells on a large batch of real video is unfeasible, we assess the performance of the algorithm on set of simulated vessels, where the mean cell velocity is known. By this means, we are also able to vary the mean blood cells velocity and the frequency of their velocity variation in time, so as to study the error variation with regard to these variables. We show the effectiveness of our method comparing it with a cross correlation approach. Moreover, along with the estimation error and robustness toward changes in the mean cells velocity, we show that at variance with the cross correlation method, the proposed algorithm is able to provide estimates on instantaneous velocity with an acceptable error, even if suffering from an overestimation bias that increases with the cells mean velocity
Optimization of logistics in industrial districts through creation of a community of agents
he aim of this paper is to find an optimal solution for freight transportation in an industrial district taking into account the point of view both of agents and customers, and trying to reduce the environmental pollution. We propose a system architecture that drives agents to cooperate in minimizing costs, and environmental negative impacts. The idea is to achieve an optimization of logistics by setting up a community made of district enterprises. We address the situation in which a virtual coordinator helps the agents to reach an agreement among each other. The objectives are: maximizing customers satisfaction, and minimizing the number of trucks needed. A fuzzy clustering, a fuzzy/genetic system and a greedy algorithm are thus proposed to achieve these objectives, and eventually an algorithm to solve the Travelling Salesman Problem
Maturity of Software Modelling and Model Driven Engineering: a Survey in the Italian Industry
Background: The main claimed advantage of Model-driven engineering is improvement in productivity. However, few information is available about its actual adoption during software development and maintenance in the industry. Objective: The main aim of this work is investigating the level of maturity in the adoption of software models and of Model-driven engineering in the Italian industry. The perspective is that of software engineering researchers. Method: First, we conducted an exploratory personal opinion survey with 155 Italian software professionals. The data were collected with the help of a web-based on-line questionnaire. Then, we conducted focused interviews with three software professionals to interpret doubtful results. Results: Software modelling is a very relevant phenomenon in the Italian industry. Model-Driven techniques are used in the industry, even if (i) only for a limited extent, (ii) despite a quite generalized dissatisfaction about available tools and (iii) despite a generally low experience of the IT personnel in such techniques. Limitations: Generalization of results is limited due to the sample size. Moreover, possible self-exclusion from participants not interested in modelling could have biased the results. Conclusion: Results reinforce existing evidence regarding the usage of software modelling and (partially of) Model-driven engineering in the industry but highlight several aspects of immaturity of the Italian industr
