Industrial network design by improving construction logistics
Implementing an industrial network in the construction industry can be achieved by changing construction management activities directly on the construction site within the design and operation phase. Construction logistics plays a crucial role here, in particular on the downstream side where waste has to be efficiently collected, separated, sorted and, finally, transported from site to different waste management options. The objective of this paper is to introduce an approach for efficient construction logistics that can ensure successful implementation of an industrial network in the construction industry from the point of view of on-site materials management within the logistics of disposal. Two construction projects in Germany were investigated and it was found that the total number of material streams separated directly on site in each project could be increased from 1 to 7 and from 1 to 19 different fractions. The study also revealed that the reuse and recycling rate could be increased to over 75% in both projects and the total costs of construction logistics could also be reduced. It was thus possible to increase material resource efficiency on the downstream side for both construction projects – by 43% in project I and by 68% in project II

The Phosphatase Dusp7 Drives Meiotic Resumption and Chromosome Alignment in Mouse Oocytes
SummaryMammalian oocytes are stored in the ovary, where they are arrested in prophase for prolonged periods. The mechanisms that abrogate the prophase arrest in mammalian oocytes and reinitiate meiosis are not well understood. Here, we identify and characterize an essential pathway for the resumption of meiosis that relies on the protein phosphatase DUSP7. DUSP7-depleted oocytes either fail to resume meiosis or resume meiosis with a significant delay. In the absence of DUSP7, Cdk1/CycB activity drops below the critical level required to reinitiate meiosis, precluding or delaying nuclear envelope breakdown. Our data suggest that DUSP7 drives meiotic resumption by dephosphorylating and thereby inactivating cPKC isoforms. In addition to controlling meiotic resumption, DUSP7 has a second function in chromosome segregation: DUSP7-depleted oocytes that enter meiosis show severe chromosome alignment defects and progress into anaphase prematurely. Altogether, these findings establish the phosphatase DUSP7 as an essential regulator of multiple steps in oocyte meiosis
Development of a gas absorption heat pump for residential applications
Thermally Driven Heat Pumps represent an option to reduce the energy consumption for space heating and
domestic hot water in hard-to-decarbonize buildings without impacting the electrical grid and utilizing the
current and future gaseous energy vectors with high efficiency. Ariston Group and Politecnico di Milano
developed a gas absorption heat pump for the residential market, exploiting design and manufacturing solutions to enable large-scale production and introducing technical features to assure high performance over the entire working range.
In particular, the use of a variable restrictor setup coupled with a patented solution, called “booster”, can reduce the temperature of the generator at high load and high lift conditions, enabling the heat pump to provide the nominal capacity from -22 °C to +40 °C of outdoor air temperature, with supply temperature up to 70 °C.
Moreover, coupled with a specifically designed combustion system, the heat pump can modulate at 1:6 ratio
of its nominal capacity. This feature makes it possible to maintain high efficiency also at part load conditions,
avoiding the on-off operation and making redundant the installation of inertial buffer.
Additionally, an innovative strategy to perform the defrosting of the air-sourced heat exchanger without the
need of acting on the thermodynamic cycle has been developed. This allows defrosting operations extremely
fast, while offering an almost negligible effect on the heat pump performance and substantially no interruption to the heating service and contributing to the elimination of the need to install an inertial buffer.
The thermodynamic core of the appliance was built targeting large scale production. It allows for high specific
capacity (kg/kW) and a small footprint (m2/kW) with the ability to serve nominal capacities ranging from 8 to
15 kW based on the configurations. Laboratory test to assess the performances based on the European Standard
EN 12309 returned a seasonal gas utilization efficiency on the net calorific of 1.50, a seasonal primary energy
ratio of 1.27, and extremely low electrical consumption for the auxiliaries

Biomechanics of the goat three bundle anterior cruciate ligament
Introduction: The goat is a widely used animal model for basic research on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), but the biomechanical role of the different bundles [intermediate (IM), anteromedial (AM), posterolateral (PL)] of the ACL is unclear. Therefore, the aim of this study is to describe the biomechanical function of the different bundles and evaluate its use for a double bundle ACL reconstruction model.
Materials and Methods: A CASPAR Stäubli RX90 robot with a six degree-of-freedom load cell was used for measurement of anterior tibial translation (ATT) (mm) and in situ forces (N) at 30° (full extension), 60°, 90° as well as rotational testing at 30° in 14 paired goat knees before and after each bundle was cut.
Results: When the AM-bundle was cut, the ATT increased significantly at 60° and 90° of flexion (p<0.05). When the PL-bundle was cut, the ATT increased only at 30°. However, most load was transferred through the big AM-bundle while the PL-bundle shared significant load only at 30°, with only minimal contribution from the IM-bundle at all flexion degrees.
Discussion: The observed biomechanical results in this study are similar to the human ACL observed previously in the literature. Though anatomically discernible, the IM-bundle plays only an inferior role in ATT and might be neglected as a separate bundle during reconstruction.
Conclusions: The goat ACL shows some differences to the human ACL, whereas the main functions of the ACL bundles are similar
