Affective Engagement in Information Visualization
All of the work presented hence forth was conducted in the DVC Lab (Design, Visualization, & Cognition Laboratory) at Purdue University, West Lafayette. All projects and associated methods were approved by Purdue University’s Human Research Protection Program [IRB protocol#: 1611018468, 1703018955, 1902021654, 1903021883].Stage 1 I was the lead investigator and main experimenter of Stage 1 where I was responsible for all major areas of concept formation, data collection, data analysis, as well as the majority of manuscript composition. Ali Baigelenov and Michael Saenz were involved in the qualitative coding process as coders and contributed to manuscript edits. Dr. Paul Parsons was the principle investigator and supervisory author on this study and was involved throughout the study in concept formation, data analysis, and manuscript composition. Note that the work came from a creative process that heavily involved all of them. A preliminary version of Stage 1 has been published [1].Stage 2 I was the lead investigator of Stage 2, responsible for all major areas of concept formation, item writing, data collection, data analysis, as well as manuscript composition. Dr. Anne Traynor advised the research methods of instrument development. Dr. Paul Parsons was the principle investigator and supervisory author on this study and was involved throughout the study in concept formation and study administration. Note that the work came from a creative process that heavily involved all of them. A preliminary version of Stage 2 and part of literature review has been published [2].Stage 3 I was the lead investigator and main experimenter of Stage 3 where I was responsible for all major areas of concept formation, data collection, data analysis, as well as the majority of manuscript composition. Dr. Anne Traynor instructed data collection and data analysis throughout the study. Ali Baigelenov contributed to experiment preparation and manuscript edits. Dr. Paul Parsons was the principle investigator as well as supervisory author on this study and was involved throughout the study in concept formation and manuscript composition. Dr. Steven Landry supported and reimbursed expense for the experiments. Note that the work came from a creative process that heavily involved all of them. A preliminary version of Stage 2, Stage 3, and part of literature review has been published [3].Stage 4 I was the lead investigator and main experimenter of Stage 4, responsible for all major areas of concept formation, data collection, data analysis, as well as manuscript composition. Dr. Anne Traynor instructed data collection and data analysis throughout the study in concept formation and manuscript edits. Dr. Paul Parsons was the principle investigator as well as supervisory author on this study and was involved throughout the study. Filter Base Integration
In this paper we seek to investigate and compare several Kurzweil-Henstock type integrals. We present these integrals as special cases of a more general construction and establish key properties required in order to create similar "well behaved" integrals. After establishing basic results (additivity, monotonicity, etc.) for these integrals, we shift our focus to more interesting questions about them. We consider mainly the following topics: additivity, their relationship to the Lebesgue integral, absolute integrability, their relationships with each other, their relationship with differentiation, possible convergence theorems and the establishment of a Fubini Theorem
The Pursuit of Noh-ledge
Kata, or fixed patterns, are an element of performance seemingly unique to the Japanese theatre tradition. To further investigate this phenomenon, I am tracing it back to what I believe is its genesis in medieval noh theatre. This is represented here by a ko-omote mask, of which both the inside and outside are presented simultaneously. Most people interpret this art form from an external perspective, never delving deeper into the internal mechanics which functionally drive the art. In other words, they limit their perspective to only one half of the whole. My research takes into consideration both the internal and external influences that have molded noh into the living tradition that it is today. I hope to illuminate the historical, pedagogical, and artistic factors that drive the preservation of the somatic texts of kata and consequently bring said insight into western dialogue. Additionally, when research takes place in one language and is published in another, the researcher necessarily becomes a bridge between the two cultures. My personal seal marking my translation on the image's left side reflects the personal responsibility I take on as a researcher to represent foreign cultures with dignity and autonomy. // Program of Study: Master of Arts (Thesis) // Faculty/Department: East Asian Studies // Place of creation: Edmonton, Albert
