PregradoMaestro en Artes PlásticasMutabilidad y Manipulación is an artistic project inspired from the idea of implementing an interactive piece of art in Bucaramanga city based on two sculptures from this place: El Clavijero located in El parque de los Niños and El Molino located in El parque de las Cigarras. Using these two sculptures and transferring them to the technological field allows us to open a world of possibilities with which the viewer can interact. The artistic installation features a control panel that has two miniature replicas of the sculptures; a screen that presents a virtual environment of the sculpture location and a computing device that controls the whole process. The approach to the piece by the user, gives him the chance of manipulating the sculpture replicas. The sensors installed on the replicas mutate their virtual representation. El Molino, that is associated with the wind, offers the possibility of generating movement in the virtual representation when blowing on the blades, while El Clavijero allows the movement of the pegs. The realization of this work balance the approach of the people of the city to these interactive pieces and also allows the viewer to become co-author of this artistic piece
Magenta area*
Proposal for a scale gain business model: action research of an architecture office
Meanwhile, the architects themselves complain about the poor remuneration for the provided services. In order to break with this reality, this study has as main objective to find an alternative to the gain in scale, using as a laboratory, the company of the author, a small architecture office, located in the city of São Paulo. Using the theoretical framework of business model, value proposition, mass customization and innovation in the civil construction sector, the work, a practical research, with the participation of the two partners of the company and an external member, followed the journey of creating a new business model composed of three cycles: (1) problem (identification and validation of the problem faced by the target public in question); (2) solution (definition and validation of the proposed solution to the problem); (3) business model (conformation and economic feasibility of the proposed model). In the initial part of the research, it was possible to identify the potential of the newly delivered houses market segment, by the construction companies (units in the sub-floor), composed of an average of 23.6 thousand units sold per year in the city of São Paulo, allowing the standardization of processes and production with gain in scale, through mass customization. The solution proposed in the present dissertation, based on the main need of the client to make the apartment habitable, was to produce the services of the reform through packages, commercialized at a fixed price, composed by pre-idealized architectural projects. At the end of the cycles and to establish the eleven components of the business model, the dissertation proposal presented a great potential of application and gain in scale, resulting in positive cash flow from the first year of operation, where the volume of determined customers was only 18 unit

The purpose of this article is to characterize the concept of political unity in Carl Schmitt and Rudolf Smend, to then demonstrate why, in the context of the Weimar Republic, these two authors had more points against than in common when addressing this topic. The differences to which reference will be made are inextricably linked to the way in which each author conceived the political proposal of liberalism. After studying the ideas of both, in relation to the way in which they thought about political unity and their proposal for constitutionalism, it will be argued that the marked anti-liberal character that Schmitt exposes in his works is not included in the ideas of Smend, Well, the latter cannot be accused - without more - the title of anti-liberal jurist. For the above, it will be necessary (i) to study the fundamental categories that both authors used in the development of their theses, in relation to political unity and (ii) to compare their approaches on the matter. The elements that are taken up in this debate can illuminate contemporary debates on the functionality of political liberalism.
Modeling emergency departments using discrete event simulation techniques
This paper discusses the application of Discrete Event Simulation (DES) for modeling the operations of an Emer-gency Department (ED). The model was developed to help the ED managers understand the behavior of the system with regards to the hidden causes of excessive waiting times. It served as a tool for assessing the impact of major departmental resources on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and was also used as a cost effective method for testing various what-if scenarios for possible system im-provement. The study greatly enhanced managers’ under-standing of the system and how patient flow is influenced by process changes and resource availability. The results of this work also helped managers to either reverse or modify some proposed changes to the system that were previously being considered. The results also show a possible reduc-tion of more than 20% in patients waiting times
This article is an introductory work to the qualitative research methodologies and methods aplied to the Library and Information Studies (LIS) field, as a way to expand the horizons of librarians so they might be able to explore different roads to improve the common telology of LIS which is basically to fuse the library (informational - cognitive) services with the needs and issues, wishes and dreams of society in its respective communities. It argues for the demystification of LIS research which is impregnated with an halo and cult almost mystical that far from motivating librarians both practical and teorethical to carry out research work in a daily basis, it plays an inhibitor role affecting not only the development of LIS research, but the LIS profession itself; this demystification implies that research could be for everyone who wants it to. It also argues that it is necessary to study in depth the epistemological debate in LIS to promote LIS research as a sub-discipline and the education and training of LIS researchers in order to transform such a plausible activity into an attractive one that becomes even a fun thing to do. [NB: History of the publication of this article. This was originally written on the 10th of May 2004. It was requested by Saul Armendariz Sanchez, the president of the Mexican Association of Librarians (AMBAC) of that time (2003-2005) to be published in the journal of such association, Liber. AMBAC's coordinator of publications of 2004, Carlos Curiel Rivera informed the author that this article should be published in Liber in the Vol. 6, No. 2, in June 2004. However such publishing never took place, 27 months later since its publishing must have taken place )(today is 26.07.2006) neither Saul Armendariz Sanchez, nor Carlos Curiel Rivera have delivered a copy of the article to the author in any format: paper, PDF, online URL in HTML or whatever with the collated pages of the Vol. 6, No. 2. A year later, in July 2005, the new president of AMBAC --for the period 2005-2007--, Felipe Becerril Torres informed the author that such Vol. 6 No. 2 issue of Liber was still waiting to be printed. But such president stepped down his charge as president of AMBAC due to illness on the 8th of May 2006, so this article was not published during his term. On the 18 of May 2006 Hortensia Lobato Reyes replaced Felipe Becerril Torres as new president of AMBAC and until today she has not informed the author if this article has been actually published. Recently it has been shown on the Website of AMBAC that the Vol. 6 with numbers 1 to 4 has been published (see: http://www.ambac.org.mx/publicaciones.htm), however this article of this author has not appeared anywhere on that site and when tracked on the databases which index Liber such bibliographic record does not exist either. Therefore, with the current evidences, it is a fact tha this article was never actually published by the 2003-2005 president of AMBAC Saul Armendariz Sanchez, as it was either published by the 2 subsequent AMBAC's presidents. And today 27 months later since suppossedly was published it is highly likely that never will be published by any Liber - AMBAC's officers. Thus, the Mexican Association of Librarians requested this article exprofesso for the celebration of AMBAC's 50th anniversary through its president in turn, Saul Armendariz Sanchez, it was approved by him and the Association's publications team and peers, they promised to be published on the Liber Vol. 6, No. 2, June 2004, but they never actually published it. Finally, this article has been fully published as it was originally written in 2004 by the Peruvian journal BiblioDocencia: Revista de Profesores de Bibliotecología (Library-Teaching: journal of faculty and lecturers of library and information science) in the Vol. 2, No. 12, quarter January-March 2006, pp. 4-12. Acute Lung Injury in a Healthy Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donor Following Granulocyte‐colony Stimulating Factor Administration: A Case Report
ABSTRACT Granulocyte‐colony stimulating factor (G‐CSF) is routinely used for peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC) mobilization in healthy donors for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, with mild, transient adverse effects. Pulmonary complications are exceedingly rare in healthy donors. We report a case of acute lung injury in a healthy donor after G‐CSF administration requiring hospitalization and treatment with corticosteroids. This case highlights the potential for rare but serious G‐CSF‐induced pulmonary toxicity, particularly in donors with predisposing factors such as obesity and smoking. Increased awareness of these rare adverse events is essential given the widespread use of G‐CSF in PBSC mobilization
Dealing with the coffee crisis in Central America - impacts and strategies
Current coffee prices are at record lows and below the cost of production for many producers in Central America. Moreover, the coffee crisis is structural, and changes in supply and demand do not indicate a quick recovery of prices. So, coffee producers in Central America are facing new challenges-as are coffee laborers, coffee exporters, and others linked to the coffee sector. Coffee plays a major economic role in Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. The coffee crisis is actually part of a broader rural crisis caused by weather shocks (such as Hurricane Mitch and droughts), low international agricultural commodity prices, and the global recession. These challenges call for new strategies for Central American countries aimed at broad-based sustainable development of their rural economies. The authors deal with the impact of the coffee crisis and strategies to deal with it. They include an analysis of the international coffee situation and country-specific analyses. The authors explore options and constraints for increased competitiveness and diversification, and discuss social, environmental, and institutional dimensions of the crisis. The authors conclude that there are specific solutions that can be pursued for the coffee sector. Some are already being applied, but more can be done in a more systematic way. Also, there is a need for safety nets to deal with the short-term impact of the crisis. Longer-term solutions are to be found in increased competitiveness and diversification in the context of broad-based sustainable rural economic development.Crops&Crop Management Systems,Environmental Economics&Policies,Labor Policies,Economic Theory&Research,Markets and Market Access,Crops&Crop Management Systems,Environmental Economics&Policies,Economic Theory&Research,Access to Markets,Markets and Market Access
