Distribution: New Zealand Distribution in New Zealand: Kaikorai lagoon, estuary of the Waikuaiti River, Brighton (Thomson 1900); Lake Waikare, North Island and various locations in the South Island (Chilton 1926); Avon-Heathcote estuary, Christchurch (Jones et al. 1989). Ecology: Freshwater, estuarine. Remarks: This is one of the more common species in New Zealand waters, and the type species of the genus. The last description dates back from 1900, with many structures illustrated in low detail.
