Start-to-end simulation of a Thomson source for mammography
Thomson scattering X-ray sources have many features which are of relevance for several applications: the main one is the capability to produce intense, quasi-monochromatic, tunable X-ray beams, after collimation, still with a reasonably small size apparatus. Applications to medical physics are straightforward, in particular in mammography where dose control in screening programs is the main relevant issue. An optimal choice of the X-ray energy to image the breast will result in a best image quality and hence will lead to a dose reduction. A Thomson scattering source is presently under development at the Frascati National Laboratories (LNF) of INFN (Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare). A complete simulation of the source including electron beam, laser beam, Thomson interaction and X-ray imaging is presented. The X-rays are generated in the energy range suitable for mammography and used to generate images of a mammographic phantom. Image quality is evaluated in terms of dose efficiency and compared to those obtained by monochromatic beams and conventional X-ray tubes. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. He served as a point of contact for customers throughout South Texas and nearby Mexico, providing not only hardware but food, clothing, and sundries. He had business contacts in San Antonio, Chicago, and abroad (Central Mexico, Italy, and other locations.)Archive of Correspondence relating to L. de Bona's Eagle Pass Hardware and Supply Store from 1887-1903 and undated. Approximately 500 letters, varying states of condition, some browning. Rothmund-Thomson syndrome (Thomson-type) and myelodysplasia
Rothmund-Thomson syndrome (RTS) is a genetic disease characterized by developmental abnormalities and poikilodermatous skin changes that appear in infancy. An association with myelodysplastic syndromes is rarely reported in RTS, even though impairment of immune function and recurrent infections are described in the literature. A case of Thomson-type RTS in a 14-year-old girl with trilinear myelodysplasia is presented. The patient was kept under hematologic surveillance for myelodysplastic syndrome. Bone marrow transplantation was considered unnecessary at present
The SPARC_LAB Thomson Source
The SPARC_LAB Thomson source is a compact X-rays source based on the Thomson backscattering process presently under its second phase of commissioning at LNF. The electron beam energy ranges between 30–150 MeV, the electrons collide head-on with the Ti:Sapphire FLAME laser pulse which energy ranges between 1–5 J with pulse lengths in the 25 fs-10 psec range, this provides an X-rays energy tunability in the range of 20–500 keV, with the further capability to generate strongly non-linear phenomena and to drive diffusion processes due to multiple and plural scattering effects. The experimental results on the obtained X-ray radiation are presented
