Nathan Hunt awaits word from Thomas Rotch about possible migration to the village of Kendal. Hunt had an interest in joining Rotch in the cotton textile industry. This letter was posted from Salem, and as answered by Rotch on the 13th of October, 1815. 7" x 8.6" 17.8 by 22 cm) Nathan Hunt (1758-1853) was born at New Garden, Guilford, North Carolina. He was a farmer and later a powerful and persuasive Quaker minister. Faithful to his church for more than 60 years, he visited South Carolina and Georgia in 1797 and again in 1804-5. He visited the northern states in 1810-11 as well as Indian tribes in Canada, England, Scotland, and Ireland during 1820-21. In 1832, he visited the newer meetings in Ohio and Indiana, whither many of the friends had emigrated from Virginia and the Carolinas to escape the slavery problem. Deeply interested in education, he was instrumental in organizing the New Garden boarding school from which since has grown Guilford College at Springfield, North Carolina. His portrait hangs in the faculty parlor of Founders Hall. He died at Center, Guilford Co., North Carolina. The Memoirs of William and Nathan Hunt, mostly from their journals and letters were published in Philadelphia in 1858
