International audienceThe article focuses on a brief period in the activity of Tim Thom, the teamof designers founded in 1993 by Philippe Starck within Thomson ConsumerElectronics (TCE). Our study aims to describe how Tim Thom has combinedexploratory and critical research on the consumer uses of electronic productswith the compliance of company’s strategic objectives. The study suggeststhat Tim Thom’s success lies in combining the intellectualization of processeswith production objectives. Their uncommon experience helps characterize theDesign Innovation. Tim Thom’s approach is to engage the user in developingnew behaviors. The user is not led towards behaviors that they would be forcedto internalize. The Tim Thom team has conducted field research in collaborationwith design offices, manufacturers and TCE subsidiaries. Its aim is to producedreamlike, embodied forms, sometimes at odds with the models of the time. The company gave this team of designers ‘‘carte blanche’’ to think outsidethe box, stimulate the imagination and stand out from the competition. In thisway, technology becomes meaningful again, integrating uses and new socialperspectives. Ultimately, our study argues that this approach facilitated thecommitment to the consumption of electronics products.

Tim Di Muzio on 'Sabotage'
In a series of essays published in 2013 and 2014 on capitaspower.com, political economist Tim Di Muzio explored the concept of ‘sabotage’ as it applies to capitalist power. I recently rediscovered these essays and was so impressed by them that I have reposted them here as a single piece.
About the author: Tim Di Muzio is a researcher at the University of Wollongong. He is the author of numerous books, including Debt as power, Carbon capitalism, and The 1% and the Rest of us

Tim conducted the research described in this article while a PhD student in Julien Bertrand's lab at the Department of Pathology and Immunology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva, Switzerland. He is now a postdoc in the lab of Holger Gerhardt at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association, Berlin, Germany, investigating developmental biology – previously his focus was on how blood stem cells develop and now it has shifted to how the vascular system develops
