    No full text
Journalism in an age of distrust between ambiguity and new challenges The article examines the role of journalism in a context marked, on the one hand, by the loss of public confidence in institutions, in politics and in mainstream media, and, on the other, by the search for new forms of expression and participation improved by the digital environment. Following Rosanvallon’s concept of contre-démocratie, the author highlights the potential of innovation that the demand for change of representative democracy could have on the redefinition of public discourse, through the creation of new arenas, new themes and new ways of participation. The article presents some points which reflect on the role that journalism could have as a place of listening to the new forms of civic and political engagement that are asserted through the web. The challenge is to redefine journalistic professionalism aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability and authoritativeness

Comunicazione pubblica e media digitali.

Established in Italy in the nineties, public communication has made significant paths : it has constructed networks of knowledge, experiences, and best practices and it has contributed to the creation of a public administration identity. Nevertheless we also have to consider some critical points. Firstly, there is a certain degree of ambiguity within the publicity itself. This ambiguity has accompanied the experiences of public communication until today. Some times it is pursued in order to provide transparency and public service, other times, it appears more established in favour of politicians. It is also necessary to consider that citizens have rarely been involved in public administration. The consolidation of digital media has redefined the relationship between the two players. The author has reviewed the perspectives that the digitalization of public administration has opened to new public communication scenarios, starting from the analysis of certain current experiences in the processes of public engagement found in certain Italian municipalities

VOICES FROM CAPTIVE WOMEN : CHORAL DRAMA AS AN EXPRESSION OF THE TRAGIC ESSENCE Euripides’ play Trojan Women was first performed in Athens in 415 b.C. The tragedy represents the poor destiny of the Trojan women, who survived the disasters of war and whose destiny is to serve as mistress for Greek leaders. It’s a choral tragedy, where the pain sentiment is shared by characters and chorus, by individuals and community, and this represents the real essence of tragic. Shortly before World War I, Franz Werfel, Expressionist author, continues and remakes Euripides’ drama, and published it in 1915. In this remake the chorus gains a very important role, due to the enhancement of rhytmic and musical elements, and plays on the modern stage the most archaic attribute of the tragic form

Innovative Communication Trends in the Public Administration – a Democratic Marketing Tool or Just Another Fallacy

2009 - 2010Institutional communication has been a controversial issue for many years now in Italy; at least as concerns the difficult challenge of putting effective communication on a national scale between the citizenship and the State in place. Most likely what is lacking is a well defined policy of strategic planning to rectify in part what Rolando (1998) sees as "institutional communication activities conceived as random initiatives rarely destined for structured balance sheets or as part of constituted professional nuclei" and which Faccioli considers "no longer the exception but still not the rule" (F. Faccioli, 2001). We are not yet verge on the verge of a communicational revolution although over ten years have passed since Italian Legislation (the so-called Bassanini, Law no.59/97, Law no.241/1990 and Law no.150/2000 which specifically regulates Public Communication and is considered both the point of arrival and at the same time, departure point of the transformation process.) was passed with the aim of putting communication at the core of the evolution in act in the public administration (PA), communinication considered as "a strategic resource capable of drastically redirecting the pathway in evolution of the PA in order to build a tight network of relations with the community of reference, based above all on trust and consensus" (Cuomo et al, in Metallo et Al, 2009). ..

Abstract The typical design solution that marks out all of  Vilanova Artigas\u27 mature work singles it out as bearing an independent dimension side by side with its utilitarian one. As it turns this autonomous dimension can\u27t even be conceived of within the bounds of the professional jargon underpinning the discourse of both architects and architectural historians, over which an interdiction holds which, as Theodor Adorno puts it, should be viewed as constitutive of functionalism. In view of this author\u27s criticism of functionalism it becomes possible to at least sketch out a comprehension of Artigas\u27 work that can be historically grounded on the foundational association between modern Brazilian architecture and the policy of national development whose doctrine was set forth by Lúcio Costa, Mário de Andrade and by the later contribution of Mário Pedrosa that finally bound it up to Oswald de Andrade\u27s notorious discourse of Anthropofagy.   Keywords: architectural aesthetics, "arquitetura paulista", brazilian architecture,  architecture\u27s art criticism

The 10-week study period comprised a 2-week single-blind placebo run-in period followed by add-on treatment with AKL1 or placebo twice daily for 8 weeks. The primary study endpoint was the change from week 0 to week 8 in cough-related health status, as assessed by the LCQ.Results: Of 33 patients enrolled, 20 were randomized to AKL1 and 13 to placebo. Patients included 19 (58%) men and 14 (42%) women of mean (standard deviation [SD]) age of 67 (9.4) years; 15 (45%) patients were smokers and 16 (49%) were ex-smokers. The mean (SD) change from baseline in LCQ score at 8 weeks was 2.3 (4.9) in the AKL1 group and 0.6 (3.7) in the placebo group, with mean difference in change of 1.8 (95% confidence interval: –1.5 to 5.1; P=0.28). The St George's Respiratory Questionnaire score improved substantially in the AKL1 treatment group by a mean (SD) of –7.7 (11.7) versus worsening in the placebo group (+1.5 [9.3]), with mean difference in change of –9.2 (95% confidence interval: –19.0 to 0.6; P=0.064). There were no significant differences between treatment groups in change from baseline to week 8 in other patient-reported measures, lung function, or the 6-minute walk distance. Conclusion: Further study is needed with a larger patient population and over a longer duration to better assess the effects of add-on therapy with AKL1 in COPD.Keywords: Leicester Cough Questionnaire, anti-inflammatory, Picrorhiza kurroa, Ginkgo biloba, Zingiber officinal

Tissue location of resistance in apple to the rosy apple aphid established by electrical penetration graphs

A study of the constitutive resistance of the apple cultivar Florina, Malus domestica Borkh. (Rosaceae), to the rosy apple aphid, Dysaphis plantaginea (Passerini) (Homoptera Aphididae), was performed for the first time by the electrical penetration graph (DC-EPG) system, using the susceptible apple cultivar Smoothe as control. All experiments were conducted with apterous adult virginoparae. The results showed a constitutive resistance in Florina due to a much longer period before the first probe reflecting surface factors. Some weak indications were found for pre-phloem resistance and initiating phloem access was not affected as inferred from equal time to show phloem salivation. However, the complete absence of phloem ingestion indicates a major resistance factor in the phloem sieve elements, most likely in the sieve element sap. Surface factors could have affected tissue related variables and this should be studied further. Anyhow, the strong constitutive resistance in Florina, either on the surface alone or in the phloem as well, effectively prevented reliable experiments on induced resistance, previously detected by molecular methods
