Part 2: Starke Hathaway: Author of the Original MMPI
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part two (of seven), authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen discuss original MMPI author Starke Hathaway's work with the test over the years and his hopes for modernizing it, as well as his pioneering vision and many talents in psychology and cognitive behavioral therapy.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. Part 6: Further Development of the MMPI Instruments
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part six (of seven), authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen discuss the future of the MMPI, noting the potential for additional scale development and modernization of item content. The latest published version of the test is the MMPI-A-RF for adolescents. Co-authors with Drs. Ben-Porath and Tellegen are Robert Archer and Richard Handel of Eastern Virginia Medical School. The next version of the test for adults will include a newly collected normative sample.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. (2016). Part 6: Further Development of the MMPI Instruments. Part 5: MMPI-2-RF Development
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part five (of seven), authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen discuss the rationale for developing the test, which was to represent the clinically significant substance of the MMPI-2 item pool with a comprehensive set of psychometrically up-to-date measures. They also discuss key features of the test, including the three-tiered hierarchical structure.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. (2016). Part 5: MMPI-2-RF Development. Part 4: The Clinical Scales and Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part four (of seven), authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen discuss the restructuring of the original Clinical Scales by Dr. Tellegen. Dr. Ben-Porath joined Dr. Tellegen in finalizing the RC Scales, which were published in a monograph in 2003; The RC Scales are the core of the MMPI-2-RF, which was released in 2008.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. Part 7: A Test of Normal Personality (MPQ) and the MMPI-2-RF
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part seven (of seven), the authors discuss Tellegen's test of normal personality, the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ). Normal-range personality inventories like the MPQ are designed to capture healthy functioning, complimenting clinical instruments like the MMPI. The MPQ is currently being used in the screening of law-enforcement officer candidates. The Absorption Scale of the MPQ, developed to assess hypnotic susceptibility, is the subject of a broad range of research.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. (2016). Part 3: Restandardizing the MMPI
The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part three (of seven), authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen discuss the restandardization of the original MMPI that resulted in publication of the MMPI-2 in 1989. Members of the Restandardization Committee were: James N. Butcher, W. Grant Dahlstrom, John R. Graham, and Auke Tellegen.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. (2016). The video conversation was filmed at Twin Cities Public Television (TPT) in St. Paul, Minnesota in March 2016. The University of Minnesota Press has made the seven video segments available for instructors to use in assessment courses. In "A Conversation about the MMPI with Yossef Ben-Porath and Auke Tellegen" part one (of seven), MMPI authors Ben-Porath and Tellegen introduce the video conversation by discussing their experience with the test – for Dr. Tellegen approximately 60 years and for Dr. Ben-Porath, 30 years – focusing on their work to modernize the test and commenting on the future of the test and personality assessment more generally.Ben-Porath, Yossef S.; Tellegen, Auke. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
