    Chiara Lubich (1920–2008), although the author of 32 books published in 26 countries (178 editions, 3.2 million copies), is better known for her social engagement, as reflected in numerous awards. She began to be regarded as a literary author only in the early 2000s, and primarily from a linguistic rather than literary perspective. This article focuses on her book Meditazioni (Meditations), reconstructs its genesis by tracing the writing process from the late 1950s to her death and the 2021 critical edition, and offers a literary analysis. This reveals Lubich as a forerunner of a new conception of literature: literature as relationship – not only between author and reader, but also among subject, inspiration, and the editorial process

    Smart irrigation forecast using satellite LANDSAT data and meteo-hydrological modeling

    The paper discusses advances in coupling satellite driven soil water balance model and meteorological forecast as support for precision smart irrigation use in a case study of an operative farm in the South of Italy where semi-arid climatic conditions holds. Crop water needs forecast are computed with the intuitive idea of forcing the soil water balance model with the meteorological model outlooks. Discussion on the methodology approach is presented, comparing, for a reanalysis period between June and September 2014, the forecast system outputs with observed soil moisture and crop water needs. Two main issues are here in emphasized: the characteristic of soil moisture water balance model, that due to its state variables may be directly calibrated and validated using satellite or near sensing land surface temperatures; the accuracy of those forecast meteorological variables that are the most important in driving the soil water and energy balance. The soil water balance model performances are then discussed highlighting the importance of using a model which state variable (the pixel surface equilibrium temperature) is the same as the data detected by satellite (Land Surface Temperature), so that it can be used for calibrating and validating soil hydrological parameters. Model outputs are also validated with a comparison of ground latent and sensible heat fluxes from an eddy covariance station and soil moisture data. Problems insight into the meteorological modeling, such as temporal and spatial scale, and their influence on soil moisture forecast are discussed showing on the base of several observation periods the need to increase the meteorological forcings accuracy for this type of applications. The obtained results show how the proposed methodology of the forecasting system is able to have a high reliability in soil moisture forecast correctly providing irrigation suggestion

    Calcium Sulfoaluminate, Geopolymeric, and Cementitious Mortars for Structural Applications

    This paper deals with the study of calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) and geopolymeric (GEO) binders as alternatives to ordinary Portland cement (OPC) for the production of more environmentally-friendly construction materials. For this reason, three types of mortar with the same mechanical strength class (R3 25 MPa, according to EN 1504-3) were tested and compared; they were based on CSA cement, an alkaline activated coal fly ash, and OPC. Firstly, binder pastes were prepared and their hydration was studied by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal-thermogravimetric (DT-TG) analyses. Afterwards, mortars were compared in terms of workability, dynamic modulus of elasticity, adhesion to red clay bricks, free and restrained drying shrinkage, water vapor permeability, capillary water absorption, and resistance to sulfate attack. DT-TG and XRD analyses evidenced the main reactive phases of the investigated binders involved in the hydration reactions. Moreover, the sulfoaluminate mortar showed the smallest free shrinkage and the highest restrained shrinkage, mainly due to its high dynamic modulus of elasticity. The pore size distribution of geopolymeric mortar was responsible for the lowest capillary water absorption at short times and for the highest permeability to water vapor and the greatest resistance to sulfate attack

    In the first few centuries of Christian era, the identity language of Jewish communities in the Diaspora was Greek, both in the East and in the West. Jewish inscriptions in the Venusia catacombs are written in Greek (60%), Latin (30%) and Hebrew (10%). Compared to the inscriptions of Rome, in the Venusian community there was an increase of the use of Latin at the expense of Greek. The present paper aims to discuss the significance of the use of Latin in Venusian inscriptions, with a focus on the Roman legal status of the Jews in late-Roman period, the economic conditions and political role played by them in Venusia and in Southern Italy between the fourth and sixth centuries CE

Porcelio de’ Pandoni himself, who was the protagonist of a long controversy with the Panormita, in his Epigrammata welcomes the lesson of the Panormita: he hybridizes his epigrammatic vein (modulated mainly on eulogy and celebratory tones), on the one hand with caustic, foul-mouthed, scommatics and invectives, on the other with elegiac insertions on love topics

    In his Vita et passio s. Christinae virginis et martyris Alfanus of Salerno (ca. 1020 - 1085) makes the martyr quote some tales about the heathen gods, which she attributes to Apuleius and Varro. A revision of the text and an analysis of the passage in question lead to the conclusion that Alfanus has in fact heavily drawn on Cicero’s De natura deorum, Lactantius’ Divinae institutiones, and especially Augustin’s De civitate Dei, in order to fabricate these fake quotation

He begins with a brief biographical overview and draws attention to some important features of her spiritual teaching: Jesus in the midst, Jesus Forsaken, Mary Desolate, the four nights. He draws attention to the Economy of Communion and as an expression of this spirituality in the world of business and economics, and to the figure of Chiara Luce Badano, a young adherent to the Spirituality of Unity who has been recognized as an example of how this spirituality can lead to holiness of life. The author’s judgment is that Chiara Lubich is “a saint of dialogue.

    On the other side of ostracism: a systematic literature review of the cyberball overinclusion condition

    Cyberball, the paradigm developed by Kipling D. Williams and colleagues (2000) to study ostracism, initially counted three experimental conditions: inclusion, exclusion, and overinclusion. The least known of these conditions is overinclusion, a social interaction characterized by excessive social attention (rather than fairness or no attention). This review provides an overview of original empirical studies implementing the overinclusion condition since its development. Following the PRISMA 2020 criteria, studies were drawn from four electronic databases (PubMed, Springer, PsycINFO, Web of Science), and Google Scholar was screened as a web-based academic search engine. In all, 33 studies met the inclusion criteria. Included studies described overinclusion specificities compared with exclusion and inclusion conditions, its effects in paradigms other than Cyberball, brain correlates associated with overinclusion, and its impact on clinical populations. 26 studies compared the inclusion and overinclusion conditions. 20 revealed significant differences between the two conditions, and 13 observed better mood and higher psychological needs satisfaction associated with the overinclusion condition. Studies investigating neural correlates revealed dACC involvement, P3 reduction, and P2 increase during overinclusion, supporting the idea of an ameliorative effect induced by the over-exposition to social stimulation. Findings on clinical populations suggest that overinclusion may help detect the social functioning of patients with psychological impairment. Despite the heterogeneity of the studies, our results showed that overinclusion can be associated with ameliorative psychological functioning. However, implementing standard guidelines for overinclusion will help provide a more thorough investigation of the psychological consequences of receiving excess social attention
