As mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets have become important tools for communication and entertainment, especially among young generation, these mobile devices have also provided new opportunities for business and commerce. In this study, the use of mobile phones for shopping on the Internet among university students was investigated. The data of this study was collected with a survey instrument from participants of Business students at Bilecik Seyh Edebali University. Based on the analysis of 278 Business students' data, we found that smart phone ownership is very common (97%), students intensively use mobile phones (most of them use it at least 3 hours in a day) and it was found that 53% of the participants used their mobile phones to make purchases on the Internet. The majority of students who did not shop from the Internet using a mobile phone stated that the most important reason was the security risk
The relationship between the risk of eating disorder and meal patterns in University students
Purpose: This study was carried out to evaluate the relation between meal patterns and the risk of eating disorders in university students. Methods: The study was conducted on a total of 331 volunteer students with a mean age of 22.08 ± 1.80 years, 56.5% female. Participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, health information and eating habits like meal skipping and dieting were questioned. Sick, Control, One stone, Fat, Food (SCOFF) Eating Disorders Scale and Eating Disorder Examination Questionnaire (EDE-Q) were used to determine eating behavior disorders, with face to face interviews by the researches. Results: A significant correlation was found between dieting and skipping meals and the risk of eating disorders in both genders (p < 0.05). In addition, when the reasons for skipping meals were questioned, a significant relationship was detected between skipping meals and eating behaviour disorders by 3.285 times (p = 0.000). Also, every unit of increase in body mass index (BMI) values of individuals who participated to the study led to an increase in eating disorders by a factor of 1.262 (p = 0.000). Conclusions: Our findings support concerns about the negative health effects of increasing overweight among university students in accordance with the data that the increase in BMI values led to an increase in eating disorders. Notably a significant correlation was found between dieting, skipping meals and the risk of eating disorders in both genders it is highlighting the need for monitoring and early diagnosis of eating disorders in youth with simple scales like SCOFF. Level of evidence: Level V, cross-sectional descriptive study. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.WOS:000642018100001PMID: 3388176
Inducing transitions and quantum transport in topological meta-materials
In this Thesis, we propose a novel method that changes the topological order in superconductor wires. We first consider the case of disorder in one dimensional topological superconductors and show how disorder can destroy or create topological order leading to reentrant topological phases. We then consider the effects of a superlattice potential, a zero-average piecewise continuous weak electrostatic potential, on p-wave and s-wave topological superconductor wires. We call such stacked wires leading to weak periodic potential modulation, meta-topological superconductor wires. Topological superconducting wires in their nontrivial phases exhibit Majorana modes as their edge states. We show that by stacking topologically trivial pieces of superconductors, it is possible to induce a topological phase which feature Majorana states at the edges of the superlattice: the meta-topological superconductor. The presence of an electrostatic superlattice allows us to control the topological phase space via the geometry of the electrostatic superlattice. We consider strictly one dimensional meta-topological superconductor wires as well as their quasi-one dimensional multichannel counterparts and show that reentrant topological phases in multichannel meta-topological superconductors occur. Finally, we consider the analogous case of a meta-topological insulator, a quantum anomalous Hall insulator featuring a weak superlattice of magnetic modulation, and show that the transmission can be topologically controlled as a function of energy. The topological protection leads to binary transmission (either transmit or reflect) through the meta-topological quantum anomalous Hall insulator, details of which can be controlled by tuning the properties of the weak superlattice
A research on modern Chinese literature author Ba Jin and his Torrent Triology ("Family", "Spring", "Autumn")
Bu çalışmada Ba Jin'in yazmış olduğu Aile (家—Jia), Bahar (春—Chun) ve Güz (秋—Qiu) romanlarındaki ana karakterler ve ana karakterler çevresinde kurgulanan olaylar incelenerek, romanlara konu olan Gao ailesini dağılmaya götüren sebepler ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışılmıştır.Family saga novels have been very important in both classical Chinese literature and modern Chinese literature. Ba Jin (1904-2005), one of the most important names in modern Chinese literature, has many works in family theme. The most successful work of the author, in family saga genre of literature, is the Jiliu Trilogy. This trio consisting of Jia (Family), Chun (Spring) and Qiu (Autumn) holds a mirror on the family structure and traditional Chinese culture of the first quarter of the twentieth century. In this study, the main characters in the Jia (Family), Chun (Spring) and Qiu (Autumn) novels written by Ba Jin, and the events that were arranged around the main characters, were investigated and tried to reveal the reasons leading to the Gao family's disintegration
An Updated View of the Effect of Probiotic Supplement on Sports Performance: A Detailed Review
Purpose of ReviewModulation of the host microbiota through probiotics has been shown to have beneficial effects on health in the growing body of research. Exercise increases the amount and diversity of beneficial microorganisms in the host microbiome. Although low- and moderate-intensity exercise has been shown to reduce physiological stress and improve immune function, high-intensity prolonged exercise can suppress immune function and reduce microbial diversity due to intestinal hypoperfusion. The effect of probiotic supplementation on sports performance is still being studied; however, questions remain regarding the mechanisms of action, strain used, and dose. In this review, the aim was to investigate the effects of probiotic supplements on exercise performance through modulation of gut microbiota and alleviation of GI symptoms, promotion of the immune system, bioavailability of nutrients, and aerobic metabolism.Recent FindingsProbiotic supplementation may improve sports performance by reducing the adverse effects of prolonged high-intensity exercise.SummaryAlthough probiotics have been reported to have positive effects on sports performance, information about the microbiome and nutrition of athletes has not been considered in most current studies. This may have limited the evaluation of the effects of probiotic supplementation on sports performance.Trakya UniversityThe figure and table produced by Miray Nur Aykut (first author) are original
Investigation of hydrazide derivatives inhibitory effect on peroxidase enzyme purified from turnip roots
Peroxidases (EC: 1.11.1.7) are haem proteins and contain iron (III) protoporphyrin IX (ferriprotoporphyrin IX) as the prosthetic group [1]. They are found in all cells and play a critical role in many biological processes, such as the host-defense mechanism [2]. Peroxidases (PODs) are widely used in clinical biochemistry, enzyme immunoassays, synthesis of various aromatic chemicals, treatment of waste water containing phenolic compounds [3, 4]. In this study, peroxidase enzyme was purified with Para amino benzohydrazide (PABH)-L-Tyrosine Sepharose 4B affinity chromatography to investigate the inhibitory effect of hydrazide derivatives on Turnip (Brassica rapa L.). IC50 values and Ki constants were calculated for the molecules of 6-Amino nicotinic hydrazide, 6-Amino-5-bromo nicotinic hydrazide, 2-Amino-5-hydroxy benzohydrazide, 4-Amino-3-hydroxy benzohydrazide on purified enzyme and inhibition type of these molecules were determined
