    Replication Data for: Learning from Mixing Power Curves: An AI-based Approach for Online Assessment of Fresh Concrete Consistency

    Overview This dataset contains a synthetic benchmark for studying data-driven assessment of fresh concrete consistency from mixer power consumption time series ("mixing curves"). It was created in the context of the manuscript Learning from Mixing Power Curves: An AI-based Approach for Online Assessment of Fresh Concrete Consistency (submitted to the Journal of Building Engineering). The data links randomized concrete mix designs, simulated mixing power curves, and simulated slump flow values as a consistency measure. It is intended for developing, pretraining, and evaluating machine learning models that use process data from concrete mixing plants, with a focus on long short-term memory (LSTM) networks and other sequence models. Data contents All tabular data are provided in machine-readable formats (e.g. CSV) with one row per mix and clearly named columns. The dataset consists of: Mix design parameters Cement, filler, aggregate and water contents per m³, water-to-powder ratio, and related scalar descriptors used in the simulation. Mixing power curves Synthetic mixing curves with a fixed sequence length (90 time steps). Each curve represents the electrical power consumption of a single (hypothetical) mixer over one batch, simulated according to an empirically supported six-stage mixing model. Reference slump flow values Simulated slump flow for each mix, derived from empirical relationships between mix proportions, rheological parameters and slump flow reported in the literature. Simulation framework Mixing curves are generated using a six-stage concrete mixing kinetics model that captures key transitions such as granule formation, fluidity point and subsequent stabilization of power consumption. Slump flow labels are computed from the mix design and late-stage mixing power values using empirical relationships between mix proportions, rheological parameters, and slump flow. The dataset therefore offers a controlled environment to test whether and how sequence models can learn to infer fresh concrete consistency from the temporal development of mixing power, beyond what can be obtained from mix proportions and single end-of-mixing power values.     Replication Data for: Effects of a Two-Stage Mixing Process on the Characteristics of Concrete: Part II - Fresh Concrete Rheology and Measurement Protocols

    Addendum to the corresponding paper. The data was originally used to explore the effects of a two-stage mixing process on the properties of fresh concrete. The data set represents experimental measurements taken with a modified ICAR Rheometer on three different concrete proportions with two different mixing configurations. The data includes yield stress and plastic viscosity. Yield stress represents the minimum shear stress required to initiate flow of the fresh concrete, reflecting interparticle structure and cohesion (reported in Pa); Plastic viscosity represents the proportionality between shear stress above the yield and shear rate under a Bingham model, describing resistance to flow once movement has begun (reported in Pa·s). The measurements were conducted using two different measurement protocols, sequential and pointwise: Sequential protocol (SEQ): An uninterrupted staircase test where rotational speed is decreased from 0.45 to 0.05 rps with measurements taking place at five 10-s plateaus, yielding one continuous flow curve per run. Pointwise protocol (PW): Single-point measurements at the same five rotational speeds with full re-homogenization prior to each point, providing pre-shear-mitigated torque readings at each speed for separate flow-curve estimation. Both protocols have been conducted twice with the following order: PW1 &rarr; SEQ1 &rarr; SEQ2 &rarr; PW2. Data for both protocols has undergone a baseline correction to account for parasitic losses from bearings, seals, and other components quantified through a no-load characterization.     Raw Data on the compressive strength measurements of concrete samples that have been evaluated as follows: The goal is to investigate the influence of different mixing approaches on the compressive strength of four distinct concrete mixtures. Compressive strength is a critical property that directly impacts the structural performance of concrete. The study focuses on evaluating the compressive strength at three key curing periods (7 days, 28 days, and 56 days) for each of the four concrete mixtures. Three separate testing series are conducted to comprehensively assess the impact of various mixing techniques on concrete performance.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
