Mongolia : Gender Disparities in Labor Markets and Policy Suggestions
Mongolia has made strong progress on key
gender-related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in recent
years. Gender indicators in education and health are also
better in many respects than in comparator countries in the
East Asia and Pacific region. Women have a limited presence
in higher level managerial positions and in entrepreneurial
work, and working women also have to shoulder most of the
household and care duties compared to men. These
inequalities can have large impacts on development, growth
and productivity as well as pervasive intergenerational
social costs. Removing impediments to full and equal
participation for women in the economy, providing equal
access to economic resources and opportunities and
eliminating discrimination can boost productivity and
competitiveness for firms with wider benefits for the
economy and within the household. A range of potential
policy actions can be considered, including improving
employment outcomes (wages, career progression) for women in
the public sector, introducing more friendly parental leave
policies that cover both fathers and mothers, improving
child care services and introducing affirmative action
policies in sectors where women are acutely
under-represented such as mining. In addition, business
regulations can be streamlined to make it easier to start
and operate businesses for both men and women. Other
policies that may be helpful include promoting awareness of
and encouraging the development of (appropriately regulated
and supervised) micro-lending institutions

Pakistan’s emerging regional politico-economic role in the SCO
Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is presently a Eurasian politico-economic bloc having two South Asian members, Pakistan and India. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prospective role of Pakistan in the SCO with qualitative study based on interviews. On June 2017, Pakistan was granted permanent membership in the SCO during its 16th Heads of State Summit in Astana. By associating itself as a permanent member, summit allows Pakistan to contribute to regional development alongside other key regional players, Russia and China and India. The study gave four findings that how multilateralism was having a calming effect on a regional conflict, Pakistan embracing independence from isolation through Trans-Afghanistan gas pipeline. Through CPEC, Pakistan was offering the SCO member countries an economic hallway. And how the Eurasian politico-economic ambitions to reach the warm waters of the Arabian Sea was perceived as hampering the Western economic interests, thereby offering a major impediment to Pakistan’s emerging role in the SCO. Moreover, SCO participation will help enhance Pakistan\u27s worldwide socio-economic objectives. This study examines the socio-politico and economic aspirations of Pakistan and benefit due to ties with SCO member countries
Religious violence towards minorities: the case of Youhanabad Church attack in Pakistan
Violence in general but religion-based violence, in particular, has been an unsettling, however ubiquitous, feature of Pakistani society. While there are economic, social, ideological, and psychological causes for why individuals engage in various acts of violence, particularly those against minority and marginalized groups are usually systemic. That is to say that either the system actively perpetuates it or passively observes it as it happens without doing anything to stop it. In Pakistan, religious violence is a result of both active perpetuations through discriminatory laws like blasphemy and or the prejudiced school curriculum and passive observation. Furthermore, in a larger context, all of this can be attributed to myopic state policies which sought to unify the nation by using Islam as a political tool to break ethnic strongholds. As it turns out, this policy has been disastrous for minority and marginalized groups. This paper seeks to understand the dynamics of religious violence in Pakistan to explain the twin attacks on Youhanabad Church in 2015. Furthermore, it undertakes a qualitative study i.e., conducting interviews with the victims of the 2015 church attack, to get insight into their feelings and how they are dealing with different emotional and economic effects of the tragedy
Engaging Schooling Subjectivities Across Post-apartheid Urban Spaces
Aslam Fataar, one of South Africa’s few educational sociologists working with ethnographic methods, captures the complex interactions and dynamics between social life, school processes and youth subjectivity in townships in the Western Cape. His work with concepts of mobilities and space is enormously generative, providing a way for teachers, principals, communities and policy makers to engage with the ‘complex ecologies’ of young people’s learning in urban schools. As an astute policy analyst, he also well knows the systemic barriers in the way of achieving this. The last chapter, on possibilities for pedagogical justice at the site of the school, considers how disengaged students might re-engage through leveraging explicit pedagogic connections between their lifeworlds and school practices. Acknowledging that pedagogy cannot be the only means for revitalising schooling, the author nevertheless insists that marginalised young people’s consent needs to be won by schools that make use of, rather than ignore, their strengths, knowledges and aspirations. The approach to the troubled question of youth and subjectivity is enlightening, and vital to understanding the post-apartheid city and school. The book fills a much-needed gap in educational sociology in South Africa

This paper aims at describing Pragma-stylistic Analysis used in the Novel “Blind Man’s Garden” published in 2013 by British Pakistani author Nadeem Aslam. The study is intended to investigate the role of speech act theory (SAT) in understanding dramatic texts through using pragma-stylistic approach. It is also an attempt to examine the pragma-stylistic effects of using speech acts (SAs) and their implication in conveying the theme of the play and the intentions of the characters. The researcher explores the application of speech act theory proposed by J.L. Austin and John Searle. This study was conducted using textual analysis and descriptive qualitative method.
