Rotational molding is a thermoplastic polymer processing technology which has been, for many years, suffering from a kind of empiricism. The simulation of rotational molding is believed to be the key to introduce new materials and more diversity in its applications. This work follows several studies aimed to develop a simulation software which would predict the material behavior in processing conditions.Consequently, this thesis will focus specifically on the simulation of the cooling phase. This type of simulation requires kinetic crystallization modeling, acknowledging the influence that the extreme thermal conditions of the rotomolding process can have on the thermal stability of the material. In this study we chose to work with Polylactic acid (PLA), a material suffering poor thermal stability and presenting with slow kinetic crystallization, making it suitable to observe these phenomenona. First, the thermal degradation of PLA has been studied and a model describing its behavior, under similar conditions to processing, has been proposed. Then, a crystallization study including the influence of the molecular weight, as well as the polymorphism of PLA, has been completed and the kinetic crystallization modeling has been performed. Finally, the integration of both models in a global simulation of the thermal transfers describing the rotomolding process has been investigated

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Reactive Rotational molding (RRM) is a process for manufacturing hollow plastic products with no weld lines, in virtually any shape, size, color and configuration, using biaxial rotation and high temperature. Understanding and modelling of physical phenomena provide a great contribution for process control that is the purpose of a more general program.Firstly, a characterization and the kinetic modeling of the thermoset polyurethane are performed in anisothermal conditions followed by rheological measurements in order to establish rheokinetik model and the the viscoelastic behavior of the reactive system according with RRM conditions.Afterwards, to simulate the RRM, Smoothed Particles Hydrodynamics (SPH) method is applied which is suited method to simulate the fluid flow with free surface such as occurs at RRM. This solver is developed by our team. Modelling and simulating reactive system flow depend on different parameters; the physical phenomena involved are: surface tension force and non-newtonian fluid behavior. The surface tension method has been successfully applied to simulate RRM using SPH solver taking into account free surface tension force. Surface tension force is given explicitly in the current model. After detecting the boundary particles, the interface is locally fitted by using Lagrangian interpolation polynomial or fitting circle in 2D and by using fitting sphere in 3D, respectively. To study the non-newtonian fluid flow during RRM, a power law describes the evolution of the viscosity versus shear rate was adopted to describe the viscoelastic nature of the reactive fluid during its shaping. The implementation of surface tension and viscoelasticity allows us to present the wettability of internal surface of the mold and the spreading of different polymers layers. Keywords : Reactive rotational molding, thermoset polyurethane, rheokinetik, Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics, surface tension, non-newtonian fluid, simulation

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    Get PDF
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Study of the miscibility of polymers using the sintering method to recycl WEEE polymers by rotomoulding

The aim of this thesis is to study the miscibility of polymer blends with a view to recycling WEEE polymers by rotomoulding. Indeed, miscibility is a key factor which determines the final properties of polymer blends. The work was divided into two parts. Based on the characterization results of Éco-systèmes WEEE, the choice of materials (PVDF / PMMA) and (ABS / PC) was motivated by the industrial and scientific interest of these two couples. The first part of the work presents an array of experimental methods, ranging from processing to material characterization, with the aim of exploring the miscibility of these mixtures. In particular, the study of the coalescence of the grains made it possible to demonstrate the miscibility of the PVDF / PMMA couple and the partial miscibility of the ABS / PC (coating phenomenon). At the end of this study, the PVDF / PMMA couple was retained as a "model" pair to perform a generalized predictive model of the coalescence between different polymer grains. This model was coupled with a probabilistic parametric analysis to evaluate the effect of the uncertainties of the viscosity, surface tension, relaxation time and grain size measurements on coalescence kinetics. The work ends with a draft of the simulation of the coalescence phenomenon and the coating in the case of miscible and partially miscible polymers respectivel
