Prevalence of craniomandibular disorders in Italian Navy scuba divers : customized vs commercial

    No full text
Aim: The aim is to determine the prevalence of temporomandibular disorders and the neuromuscular system variations in scuba divers of the Italian Navy with commercial (CM) and personalized mouthpiece (PM) to identify the risk factors for the development of TMD signs and symptoms before and after diving. Material and Methods: 20 males (28-35 years) undergone to neuromuscular tests, spirometric and postural exams before and after diving, to MRI and CBCT. Results: The prevalence of TMD symptoms after diving was about 93% with CM and 38% with PM versus a 32% before diving, the neuromuscular answers after diving (T3) were highly different from rest situation before immersion (T0) (p<0,001); also postural aspects were different after diving (p<0.01). Conclusions: Scuba divers exhibiting TMD-related symptoms have met the greatest risk of developing TMJ dysfunction during and after the dive. Also in asymptomatic divers, before the dive, TMD was a common problem after it. Customized mouthpiece have reduced symptoms, significantly

Taubert ex Glaziou ([1910] 1905: 430), nom. inval.

Type:— BRAZIL. Minas Gerais: Serra dos Cristais, near Diamantina, 1892, A.F.M. There are eight syntypes, being six entire sheets (K000494453, BR0000006996413, C10010917, P00715911, P00715909, P00715910), and fragments of the Berlin specimen at F (F0055216F) and L (L0006627). We also consulted R, which maintains many Glaziou specimens, but no duplicate of this collection was found.

Leucothoë ericoides (Taub.) Taubert ex Glaziou ([1910] 1905: 430) is not validly published according to Art. 34.1 of the ICN (Turland et al 2018), since the “Plantae Brasiliae centralis a Glaziou lectae = Liste des plantes du Brésil central recueillies en 1861–1895” (Glaziou 1905) is a suppressed work (“ opera utique oppressa ”).

Sleumer’s (1959) studies about Leucothoë, assumed B † as “ Holotype ” and indicated isotypes in BR, C, G, K, L, LE, and P, as well as a fragment at F. According to the Art. 7.11, Ex. 13 of the ICN (Turland el al. 2018), Sleumer (1959) indicated a lectotype. The remaining syntype specimens became isolectotypes. Judd (1984, 1995) followed this same pattern of type specimen designation. As this lectotype was destroyed, according to the Art. 9.11, a new lectotype must be designated as its substitute. Therefore, we are designating the specimen at K (K000494453) as the lectotype of Agarista ericoides because the material is well conserved, matches the protologue presenting fruits, and is similar to the original B † type (see F photo 220518 [4582]). The Field negative photo could not assume a type status (Art. 9.4, Turland et al. 2018), but provided additional information that assisted in our selection of the lectotype, because it keeps some information from the original material. The material here selected as lectotype is available digitally in speciesLink (SPECIESLINK, 2022), and digital herbarium database from K (Kew 2022).
Published as part of Dalastra, Claudenice Hilda & Heiden, Gustavo, 2023, Typifications and nomenclatural notes on Agarista (Ericaceae, Vaccinioideae, Lyonieae), pp. 1-17 in Phytotaxa 618 (1) on page 4, DOI: 10.11646/phytotaxa.618.1.1, http://zenodo.org/record/8389691</a&gt

We also consulted the herbarium R, which has many Glaziou type specimens, nonetheless, no duplicate of this collections was found. Taubert (1893) published A. angustissima with the collection Glaziou 19582 as the type of the species. According to the TL II (Stafleu & Cowan 2022), the collection numbers Glaziou 3267-22770 were deposited in B and the collection Glaziou 19582 deposited in there was destroyed by the fire.

Sleumer (1959) included the species of Agarista in Leucothoë sect. Agastia and combined the name A. angustissima as L. angustissima, assuming the B† specimen as “ Holotype ”, and indicated the location of some isotypes (BR, K, NY, P), beyond the so-called “ Holotype fragment” at F. Judd (1984, 1995), who reestablished Agarista at generic rank, kept the designation of the holotype at B†, and indicated additional isotypes at G and MO. According to the Art. 7.11, Ex. 13 of the ICN (Turland el al. 2018), Sleumer (1959) designated the B† specimen as the lectotype. The remaining duplicate specimens became isolectotypes. As this lectotype was destroyed, according to the Art. 9.11 a new lectotype must be designated as its substitute.

Therefore, we herein revised the isolectotypes and designate the specimen from P (P00715901) as the lectotype of the name Agarista angustissima because it is well preserved, presents fruits and flowers, and is in accordance with the protologue. Furthermore, the label contains the correct information about the collection. Additionally, this material is available digitally in speciesLink (SPECIESLINK, 2022) and the digital herbarium database from P (MNHMP 2022).
