Rethinking rehabilitation: socio-ecology of tanks and water harvesting in Rajasthan, North-west India
In the arid and semi- arid Indian state of Rajasthan, tanks and ponds have been a mainstay of rural communities for centuries. There are over 4600 large minor irrigation tanks, plus numerous johads, bandhs and pals (small water harvesting structures). This paper assesses a strategy proposed for rehabilitating 1200 of the larger tanks. It argues that treating tanks only as flow irrigation systems—which lies at the center of the mainstream thinking on rehabilitating surface irrigation systems is very likely to result in a flawed strategy when applied to tanks. Instead, reviewing the successful experience of NGOs like PRADAN and Tarun Bharat Sangh in reviving and rehabilitating clusters of small traditional water harvesting structures at a watershed level, it posits that Rajasthan's tanks belong more to the watershed development domain than to the irrigation domain and that a strategy that views tanks as multi-use socio-ecological constructs, and which recognizes varied stakeholder groups is more likely to enhance the social value of tanks.

Abstract
Observational cosmology has made very rapid progress in the past decade. The ability to quantify the universe has largely improved due to observational constraints coming from structure formation measurements; cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy and, more recently, polarization have played a very important role. Besides precise determination of various parameters of the 'standard' cosmological model, observations have also established some important basic tenets that underlie models of cosmology and structure formation in the universe—'acausally' correlated initial perturbations in a flat, statistically isotropic universe, adiabatic nature of primordial density perturbations. These are consistent with the expectation of the paradigm of inflation and the generic prediction of the simplest realization of an inflationary scenario in the early universe. Furthermore, gravitational instability is the established mechanism for structure formation from these initial perturbations. The signature of primordial perturbations observed as the CMB anisotropy and polarization is the most compelling evidence for new, possibly fundamental, physics in the early universe. The community is now looking beyond the estimation of parameters of a working 'standard' model of cosmology for subtle, characteristic signatures from early universe physics

Ikarus v0.4
Ikarus is a C++-based library with Python bindings (link to documentation) built to solve partial differential equations with the finite element method. The dataset under this DOI contains the current release (v0.4) of the library.
This release not only focuses on refactoring various interfaces but also introduces exciting features such as Python bindings, result evaluators, the Kirchhoff-Love shell element, added support for Clang 16, and more. For more details on the changes of this release refer to the repo file CHANGELOG.md. or go to GitHub.
This dataset includes the Ikarus source code itself as a zip-file (ikarus-v0.4.zip).
Additionally, this dataset comes with a Docker container (ikarus-docker-v0.4.tar.gz). It has Ikarus itself for this particular release installed, and can be used, for instance, to execute examples. For more details on the examples, see here.
This version's documentation (ikarus-docs-v0.4.zip) is also included, and it can be accessed by navigating to the top-level file "index.html" in a browser.

Tarun Tejpal Acquittal: Trivializing Women Dignity
The acquittal of journalist Tarun Tejpal, former Editor-in-Chief of the Tehelka magazine, who was convicted in 2013 with the rape, unlawful confinement, and sexual harassment of a young woman journalist working at the magazine, is a tomb travesty of justice and a major crushing defeat for the Indian feminism movement and, in specific, the security of women in the workplace. The victim was placed on trial by the court, which was relentless in humiliating and demeaning her. The decision of the Additional Sessions Judge Kshama M. Joshi established standards for a credible witness and the typical appearance of a traumatized victim, then proceeds to bash into the victim since she failed all of the so-called criteria. The Tarun Tejpal case is a mere act of grave shame.
The present text examines the extremely inadequate verdict and the prejudiced behavior of the courts toward sexual abuse victims. It aims to point out at the notions that the so-called society holds about how an abuse victim should act and behave in order to be a ‘perfect victim’.

Oxyfuel Combustion Residues as Supplementary Cementitious Materials for the Production of Blended Portland Cements
Oxyfuel combustion represents one of the most interesting processes aimed at CO2 capture and storage to mitigate greenhouse effects ascribable to the process industry. In a different technical area, searching for new processes aimed at producing low-CO2 cements has comparable relevance, due to the huge generation of greenhouse gases related to cement production. This paper proposes an integration of these two aspects, with an approach new in the pertinent literature. The possibility of reusing ashes, issued by a pilot plant fluidized bed oxyfuel combustion process, as a source of material in the production of low-CO2 cements is investigated. Ashes were tested as substitutes for natural pozzolan in blended cements. They were mixed with an industrial Portland clinker and natural gypsum in order to evaluate their hydraulic behavior at different curing temperatures (20–40°C) and times (2–28 days). Pozzolanicity tests together with differential thermal–thermogravimetric and X-ray diffraction analyses were employed to explore the hydration behavior of oxyfuel ashes-based blended cements
