Insight into government managed technology business incubators in the west of China: a comparative analysis
We present a comparative analysis of government managed Technology Business Incubators (TBI) in the west of China. 2 TBI in Chongqing and 2 TBI in Chengdu are chosen to make case studies. Our paper aims to find out whether government fully financed TBI is more expansion oriented than self financing TBI and whether the former performs better than the latter. Our contribution consists in adding some new variables in Mian's (1997) integrative assessment framework of TBI, filling a literature blank in missing the analysis of government governed TBI in the west of China, and providing insight into management and operational policies, services and performance outcomes of the four sampled TBI. We find that government fully financed TBI are more expansion oriented in terms of incubation surface and the diversification of incubation parks, and perform better in pooling funds, fostering ventures, generating total income and cluster effect than self financing TBI. Self financing TBI is better in human resources performance (measured by the ratio of incubator management personnel to total ventures) and service income than government fully financed ones
Technology Business Incubators in China and India:A Comparative Case Study
We present a comparative case study of Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in two major emerging economies in Asia - China and India. We employ an integrative analytical framework that combines three broad categories of indicators (originally developed by developed by Mian, 1997): Management policies and practices; Services and their impacts; and Performance outcomes; with the national system of innovation (NSI) concept. At the micro (TBI) level, we mainly focus on: objectives, structure and governance of incubators, selection of tenants, funding for incubators and tenants, services provided by incubators, and performance outcomes. We attempt to identify similarities and differences between the two systems, explore the reasons for performance differences, and draw policy implications. Our study shows that the differences between the TBIs in China and India are mainly due the differences between the NSIs of China and India, as major components of NSI such as macroeconomic conditions, national S&T policy framework, industrial structure and the nature of financial institutions have played significant role in shaping the nature and rate of TBIs development in both countries. This suggests that building and strengthening the NSI is imperative to achieve positive and high outcomes in the growth and performance of TBIs; and specific and strong measures to develop TBIs alone may fail to produce desired outcomes, if the NSI is weak. <br/
Technology Business Incubators in China and India: a comparative analysis
Technology Business Incubators (TBIs) in China and India are compared by employing an analytical framework that combines the national system of innovation concept and a modified TBI integrative framework. Two research questions are investigated: What are the management polices practices of, and incubation services offered by the TBIs in China and India?, and How successful are the TBI?s in China and India? Findings reveal that there are a number of similarities (including objectives, selection criteria for tenants, funding of new ventures, and basic services provided) and differences (including ownership/ legal status, structure and governance, funding, value added and specialists services, incubation period, number of TBIs, tenants, employees, and revenues) between China and India. Both systems evolved due to specific national context, which led to most of these differences
Measurement of employer attractiveness in the chinese context: an updated analysis of students' perspective
The increasing intensity of international competition among organizations and the
elevation of the level of expertise of fresh graduates put employer branding at the heart
of today’s preoccupations. The war for talents is real and organizations around the world
are looking for the best assets beyond the borders of their own countries. Understand
the dimensions and criteria that appeal to possible candidates is an undeniable
advantage. This study investigates the dimensions of employer attractiveness that are
relevant to Chinese candidates by re-using the model developed by Zhu et al. (2014)
and assesses the impact of the gender on the perception of this employer attractiveness.
A quantitative study has been used to harvest the results of 121 respondents at
Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in Chengdu, China. Significant
differences have been found for three of the five dimensions, indicating on a general
level, that females rated significantly higher than males the three dimensions. These
results are then further discussed and interpreted via a theoretical and a managerial
Chengdu, China.
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
