No full textSi la réduction de la longue durée du tannage végétal et la recherche des nouveaux agents tanniques constituaient la principale préoccupation des innovateurs de l’industrie du cuir dès le XVIIIe siècle, la devise des tanneurs français était encore au début du XXe siècle : « Pour avoir du bon cuir, il faut du tan et du temps ». Ces deux facteurs sont responsables de l’inertie technique : le tan (écorce de chêne) appliqué en grande quantité et le temps, excessivement long (deux à trois ans) investi dans les opérations de tannage, pour ce secteur-clé de l’industrie française, si peu étudié jusqu’ici. Par l’examen des diverses techniques de tannage et du rôle des emprunts techniques venant de l’étranger, l’auteur tente de dégager les principaux axes technologiques de la transformation de la peau en cuir.Tan and time. Technical change and historical dimension of tanning in France (14th-18th centuries)The reduction of the extreme length of vegetal tanning and the search for new tannic agents were the major preoccupations of the leather industry since the 18th century. However, even at the beginning of the 20th century, the motto of French tanners was still : « To get good leather, you need tan and time ». Two elements therefore were responsible for the technical inertia of this little-known key-sector of the the French industry : tan (oak-tree bark) used in great amount and time, excessively long (up to three years). Examining various tanning methods and the role played by the introduction of techniques from abroad, the author outlines the main technological axes of the conversion of raw hide into leather.El tanino y tiempo. Catalogue des plantes médicinales utilisées dans le traitement de la lithiase rénale dans la province de Tan-Tan (Maroc saharien)
No full textUne étude ethnobotanique a été réalisée dans la région de Tan-Tan pour établir le catalogue des plantes médicinales utilisées dans le traitement de la lithiase rénale et collecter le maximum d’informations sur les recettes thérapeutiques pratiquées par la population locale. A l’aide de 350 fiches questionnaires, des enquêtes ethnobotaniques ont été réalisées dans la région de Tan-Tan pendant quatre campagnes de terrain, entre 2007 et 2011. L’analyse des données recueillies sur le terrain a permis de recenser 50 espèces appartenant à 29 familles dont celle des Apiaceae, la plus représentée avec 7 espèces. De même, les résultats obtenus montrent que la majorité des recettes thérapeutiques utilisées dans le traitement de la lithiase sont préparées à partir des feuilles ou des graines sous forme de décoction. Les informations rapportées par cette étude, pourraient constituer une base de données pour les recherches ultérieures dans le domaine de la phytochimie dont le but d’identifier de nouveaux principes actifs naturels utilisables en pharmacologie.Mots clés : Lithiase rénale, enquête ethnobotanique, plantes médicinales, usages thérapeutiques, catalogue floristique, Tan-Tan

A multimodal large language model framework for gesture generation in social robots
No full textNon-verbal gestures play a crucial role in social robots, enabling them to signal their intentions to users during human–robot interaction (HRI). While recent research in this domain has primarily focused on robot gesture generation, there remains a limited number of studies on multimodal generation frameworks, where generated gestures are harmonized with other generated modalities, to better convey the robot’s intention to users via a wider range of communication channels. Inspired by recent advancements in multimodal large language models (MLLMs), we propose a novel framework that integrates motion generation models with existing MLLMs to produce high-quality 3D motions without the need for extensive multimodal training. Our framework comprises three key components: a Denoising Diffusion Motion Generation (DDMG) module that maps text descriptions to motion sequences using a diffusion-based approach; a Motion Decoding Alignment (MDA) module that refines motion representations by incorporating signal embeddings generated by an LLM; and a Fusion Module (FM) that integrates motion features trained from previous phases to enhance coherence and realism. We conducted a series of experiments on a publicly available dataset to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed framework in terms of motion quality, diversity, and semantic alignment. The results suggest that our multimodal approach can serve as a powerful controller for robot gesture generation, offering a more scalable and effective solution, particularly for social HRI

Tan Hoe Lo was a Peranakan merchant born in Batavia (about whom we know very little). He came to Paris in the company of a Dutch family (Mr. and Mrs. Zadelhof) to visit the Universal Exposition of 1889. He wrote several reportages in Malay, which were published in the local press of the Dutch Indies (both in Batavia and Surabaya). We provide here an annotated translation of his reportages, which are among some of the first of the kind to appear in Southeast Asia about Europe. They reveal an undeniable fascination for the topic of « modernity » and the author specifically lists a series of « technical advances » that needed to be transferred to Java. Tan Hoe Lo describes in detail several of the Exposition's pavilions, the Annamese theatre and rickshaws (which he took for «Siamese» ...), as well as his climb up the Eiffel Tower.
