Chinese literary works translated into Baba Malay: a bibliographical study
Analyses 68 unique titles of Baba translated works published between 1889 and 1950. The titles are held in the libraries of the University of Malaya (UM), Science University Malaysia (USM), National University of Malaysia (UKM), the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), National University of Singapore (NUS), National Library of Singapore (NLS) and the British Library (BL). The results reveal three periods of active publication of Baba translated works. A total of 18 works were translated before World War I, followed by 10 just after the war, 39 titles were published before the break of the World War II and 1 was identified in 1950. There were 103 persons involved in the 68 translated works, some of whom are responsible for more than one title. The most prominent translators were Chan Kim Boon, Wan Boon Seng, Seow Chin San and Lee Seng Poh. Some of the translators were also be editors, illustrators or editors. There were 31 publishers and 21 printing presses involved, all were located in Singapore. The most active publishers were Wan Boon Seng, Kim Seck Chy Press and Nanyang Romanised Malay Book Co. The translated works mainly cover historical classical Chinese stories, chivalrous stories, romances, folklore and legends. The titles were priced between 10 cents to 2 dollars in Straits currency. The University of Malaya Library held the largest number of unique title (62) out of which 15 were unique titles
To learn or not to learn? Facilitating efficient learning behaviors
Technology in Education has been an increasingly common and essential in this day and age. It is no surprise that there has been a flood of educational apps in the market that aid in learning. While many of these apps are useful in different ways, they do not cover all aspects of learning. Students thus do not utilize them at all because they are not comprehensive of useful enough. In short, students are still having trouble finding the ideal application that acts as a one stop destination to heal them to learn.
This project thus aims to create an ideal mobile application that acts as a “study buddy” to students. This paper will evaluate different functions of study apps available and collate the best methods students can actually use. Effects of the handheld technology instructional approach on performances of students of different achievement levels
The handheld technology selected and the ways it is implemented influences the way mathematics is taught and learned, which in turn generates positive effects in the mathematics education. This study was conducted to examine the effects of handheld technology instructional approaches on performance of students of different achievement levels in Probability at a private higher learning institution in Malaysia. A quasi-experimental study with non-equivalent control group design with pre-test and post-test design was conducted on a sample of 65 students. The sample was divided into the experimental group and control group. The handheld technology instructional approaches, i.e. teaching and learning approaches using the graphing calculator (GC) as a teaching and learning tool and the GC instructional worksheets, were employed in the teaching and learning of probability in the experimental group. The conventional teaching approach was adopted in the control group. Quantitative and qualitative methods were employed to collect and analyse data. Quantitative data was collected using the Probability Achievement Test (PAT). PAT was administered to both groups at the beginning and end of the study. Qualitative data was collected using students’ journals. The results show that students, the high, average and low achievers, gained benefits when the handheld technology instructional approaches were used in learning Probability, particularly random variable, poisson distribution, binomial distribution and normal distribution
Performance Evaluations Of Buffering Management Schemes In Optical Packet Switching
The aim of this project is to study several buffering strategies for optical packet switching (OPS) under limited packet sorting. Three new schemes, which consist of sorting and finding the least buffer occupancy abilities, are investigated. Results show that these schemes can manage the FDL buffers more efficiently in an OPS switch compared to the simple round robin scheme
DC/DC charging controller design
This report presents a design and simulation of DC/DC bi-directional charging controller. This system is used to control the flow of power between bus (DC link) and the battery bank. It is designed to work in three different modes of operation assigned by users.
This project is built from the concept of buck and boost converters. The proposed system can be used in most if not all of the renewable energy systems explored. They include wind generation, hydro energy and solar energy in an exhaustive list that is too much to mention and also not forgetting the charging system used for electric vehicle charging purpose. Solar energy has increasingly grown in their popularity due to their cost and green campaigns favored worldwide. While photovoltaic modules harness the solar power from the sun, the energy harnessed is varying throughout the day and cannot be used up instantly. The energy is either stored in batteries or sell back to the local grid to get back some capital.
This proposed two quadrant system is to allow power to flow to the batteries when the bus (DC link) has sufficient power for the load whilst not overcharging the battery or discharging the battery to allow power to flow to the bus (DC link) to maintain the voltage if there is an increase in load. Information Technology Students’ Preferences on Blended Learning
The advancement of technology nowadays provides opportunities in education including the adoption of blended learning. The objective of this project was to examine Information Technology students’ preferences on blended learning. Findings found that most students preferred to use it in Science subjects/courses, both inside the class and outside the classroom, and learn via online with a blended learning method as revision after the class. However, students of low and medium math anxious students had no significant difference in their preferences. It is hoped that the findings of the project will help researchers to customise the incorporation of blended learning tools in students learning as well help educators in planning and adopting blended learning, and benefit students in their learning. The system developers also should consider designing and develop more suitable systems/apps for students in learning Language subjects
“Blenders” for Learning
Nowadays, the frequency of the adoption of blended

Consumers ' choice of credit/charge card
The purpose of this research is to uncover the factors that affect consumers' choice of
credit or charge card. Recent developments have indicated that the intensity of
competition in the card market has increased.
Therefore, part of the objectives of the current study would be to identify those
benefits that cardholders consider as important and which would likely affect their
evaluation of the cards to apply for. Other areas of study were on developing
demographic profiles of the responding cardholders based on the nature of card held,
on whether these demographic variables have significant effects on their card choice
and on how often credit settlement was used for a variety of activities like the
purchase of food items, non-food items and travel and entertainment etc.
The results from the analysis indicated that certain benefits like a flexible repayment
plan and waiver of membership fee offered by the issuers were considered important
while other benefits such a.S discount on car rentals and fast cash service drew mixed
reactions. The usage frequency for most of the respondents were considered low
(about 1 to 4 times per week). However, most cardholders used the card very
frequently to settle payments for dining and travelling purposes. The demographic
profiles for Visa and MasterCard cardholders were almost identical while American
Express cardholders were a distinct group on their own.
The report ends with some recommendations on the areas for future research and
how this research study can be further improved in terms of measurement scales and
