Forecasting Of Lake Level By Soft Computing Approaches

    No full text
Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbHTo ensure the sustainability and management of water resources, regularly monitoring the water levels in lakes, rivers, basins, dam reservoirs, etc. is a very important engineering task. Our freshwater resources are gradually decreasing due to the destruction of freshwater resources and climate change. For this reason, monitoring, modelling, and researching of freshwater resources, especially lakes, are increasingly important issue for nowadays. In this chapter, soft computing approaches are used to forecast of lake water levels at Beyşehir Lake, located in the central part of Turkey. To do this, three artificial neural network algorithms (Multilayer, Radial Basis and Generalized Regression), two heuristic algorithms (Model 5-Tree and Multivariate Adaptive Regression Spline), and a Support Vector Machines containing three different functions (Radial, Polynomial, and Linear) are used. In addition to being models used successfully in hydrological modelling of civil engineering, the changes in modelling performance with the number of iterations, kernel functions, optimization algorithms, and data input sets that constitute the internal dynamite of the techniques are investigated. The attained results show that through these multiple parameters, radial basis artificial neural networks are the most successful when compared with mean absolute error, root mean square error, coefficient of determination, Taylor diagrams and Violin plots. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024

HYPOGLYCEMIA CAUSED BY CIPROFLOXACIN IN A NON-DIABETIC ELDERLY PATIENT: A CASE REPORT

    No full text
Fluoroquinolones, a commonly used class of antibiotics, can impair glucose homeostasis. Hypoglycemia may be life-threatening in non-diabetic elderly patients with renal impairment. An 80-year-old female patient was admitted to the emergency department with hypoglycemia. The patient was not a diabetic and did not use antidiabetic drugs. Three days prior, she had received ciprofloxacin for a urinary tract infection. During hypoglycemic process, her insulin level was not suppressed. At follow-up in inpatient service, her insulin level had returned to the normal range. Her serum cortisol level was normal, and pancreatic imaging was normal. After ciprofloxacin was discontinued, no further hypoglycemic episodes occurred. Physicians should be careful in prescribing fluoroquinolones in older patients who are prone to hypoglycemia. Moreover, drug-related causes should be considered in cases of unexplained hypoglycemia

Including material and photographs not included in most of the 100 other books about the champion, Ishmael Reed's The Complete Muhammad Ali is more than just a biography-it is a fascinating portrait of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st. An honest, balanced portrayal of Ali, the book includes voices that have been omitted from other books. It charts Ali's evolution from Black Nationalism to a universalism, but does not discount the Nation of Islam and Black Nationalism's important influence on his intellectual development. Filipino American author Emil Guillermo speaks about how "The Thrilla' In Manila" brought the Philippines into the 20th century. Fans of Muhammad Ali, boxing fans, and those interested in modern African American history and the Nation of Islam will be fascinated by this biography by an accomplished American author.Intro -- DEDICATION -- INTRODUCTION -- The Curious History of an Icon -- CHAPTER 1 -- CHAPTER 2 -- CHAPTER 3 -- CHAPTER 4 -- CHAPTER 5 -- CHAPTER 6 -- CHAPTER 7 -- Did the Secret Government Fear a U.S. Muslim/Overseas Muslim Alliance? -- CHAPTER 8 -- CHAPTER 9 -- The Break Between the Prophet and his Disciple -- CHAPTER 10 -- CHAPTER 11 -- CHAPTER 12 -- The GOAT (Greatest Of All Time): Ali or Louis? -- CHAPTER 13 -- The Nation of Islam, the Mob, Showdowns in Canada and Sonny Liston -- CHAPTER 14 -- CHAPTER 15 -- The Taunts: Marketing or Racism? -- CHAPTER 16 -- CHAPTER 17 -- CHAPTER 18 -- CHAPTER 19 -- Boxing and the Brain -- CHAPTER 20 -- Ali's Feet -- CHAPTER 21 -- Mr. Dick -- CHAPTER 22 -- CHAPTER 23 -- The Opening Ceremonies, November 2005 -- CHAPTER 24 -- December 2005, Las Vegas -- CHAPTER 25 -- CHAPTER 26 -- June 16, 2004 -- CHAPTER 27 -- CHAPTER 28 -- CHAPTER 29 -- Aix-en-Provence -- CHAPTER 30 -- Ali as a Black Nationalist -- San Francisco, January 2004 Black Liberation Book Fair -- CHAPTER 31 -- January 31, 2004 -- CHAPTER 32 -- October 2005, Chicago -- CHAPTER 33 -- Why Ali remained with Elijah instead of following Malcolm -- CHAPTER 34 -- CHAPTER 35 -- February 4, 2006, Oakland, California -- CHAPTER 36 -- Like Zeus Descending from Mount Olympus -- CHAPTER 37 -- CHAPTER 38 -- Tuesday, February 28, 2006, New York -- CHAPTER 39 -- Bigger Than Boxing -- CHAPTER 40 -- Tribes Gallery, New York, April 2006 -- CHAPTER 41 -- June 2006, Louisville, Kentucky -- CHAPTER 42 -- CHAPTER 43 -- CHAPTER 45 -- Bad Company -- CHAPTER 46 -- Coxson, A Very Charming Rogue -- CHAPTER 47 -- Ali and the largest embezzlement scheme in Wells Fargo history -- CHAPTER 48 -- CHAPTER 49 -- "Lonnie is a stabilizing force."-Harry Belafonte -- October 29, 2006 -- CHAPTER 50 -- Abdul Rahman -- CHAPTER 51 -- CHAPTER 52 -- CHAPTER 53How Will Ali Be Remembered? Syriac-Arabic Glosses of Isho bar Ali. Volume 2

    No full text
These two volumes constitute the second part (nun-taw) of the Syriac-Arabic dictionary of the 10th cent. physician Isho bar Ali (the first half of the dictionary had been published in 1874 by G. Hoffmann). Each Syriac word is defined in Arabic, often with more than one Arabic equivalent; in addition, the author deals not just with individual Syriac words, but in some cases with phrases. Gottheil used 21 manuscripts (from Oxford, London, Paris, Berlin, Leiden, and Rome) for this edition, and he has supplied a thorough critical apparatus; the manuscripts are described in the introduction. While some manuscripts give the Arabic glosses in Syriac characters (i.e. Garshuni), Gottheil has presented them here in Arabic script. These two volumes will be of great interest to Syriac lexicographers and those who study interactions between Syriac and Arabic.Contains an English introduction by Richard J.H. Gotthei

Stylistic study of uniformity of narrative language in the Tigers on the tenth day by Zakaria Tamer

Literary critics interpret linguistic phenomena through the study of styles and extend their research on the words and constructions related to environmental factors and literary innovations. Ultimately these words and constructions are considered as a particular style. The study of the methods of writers is called stylistics and a statistical approach branches out which quantitatively examines Linguistic phenomena within a statistical framework. There are other approaches to stylistics such as psychological and practical approaches. In general, there is a good context in poetry and fiction and in particular in the works of the Syrian novelist Zakaria Tamer, which leads researchers to follow styles. Analysis of the data from tables and using manual statistical method proved that he has a consisant style in applying uniform linguistic phenomena. Hence, the uniform style of the author in the Tigers on the tenth day was studied. We found that he has resorted to a uniform style (past tense verb + preposition + genitive + intermittent adjective in type and number). As a result, the author sometimes deviates from the uniform method and diversify the literary work to meet special demands of the story. The main reason of uniformity is speech, especially in frequent use of words such as "al-qoul, al-soval, al-sout, al-lahja. " Continuous study of his works makes it clear that this issue is caused by either vocabulary deficiency or the unconscious mind of Zakaria Tamer. If he was aware of uniformity of language, he would have definitely avoided getting caught by the monotonous vocabulary

A 70-year-old man was admitted to our clinic with complaints of fever, jaundice, dyspnea, and generalized rash after 3 months of allopurinol treatment for gout. On physical examination, he was found to have fever (38.5 degrees C), jaundice, and generalized maculopapular rash. Leukocytosis, eosinophilia, elevation of liver enzymes, and hyperbilirubinemia were detected in his blood analysis. Skin biopsy was consistent with drug-induced hypersensitivity. He was diagnosed as Drug Rash with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). Allopurinol treatment was stopped and steroid treatment was launched. At day 24 of admission, the patient died because of multiple organ failure
