Aging dynamics of ±J. Edwards-Anderson spin glasses
We analyze by means of extensive computer simulations the out of equilibrium dynamics of Edwards-Anderson spin glasses in d = 4 and d = 6 dimensions with ±J interactions. In particular, we focus our analysis on the scaling properties of the two-time autocorrelation function in a wide range of temperatures from T = 0.07T c to T = 0.75T c in both systems. In both the 4d and 6d models at very low temperatures we study the effects of discretization of energy levels. Strong sub-aging behaviors are found. We argue that this is because in the times accessible to our simulations the systems are only able to probe activated dynamics through the lowest discrete energy levels and remain trapped around nearly flat regions of the energy landscape. For temperatures T ≥ 0.5T c in 4d and 6d we find logarithmic scalings that are compatible with simple dynamical ultrametricity. Nevertheless the behaviour of the systems, even in 6d is very different from the mean field SK model results. © EDP Sciences, Società Italiana, di Fisica, Springer-Verlag 2003

Aging in a one-dimensional Edwards-Anderson spin glass model with long-range interactions
In this work we study, by means of numerical simulations, the out-of-equilibrium dynamics of the one-dimensional Edwards-Anderson model with long-range interactions of the form ± Jr-α. In the limit α → 0 we recover the well known Sherrington-Kirkpatrick mean-field version of the model, which presents a very complex dynamical behavior. At the other extreme, for α → ∞ the model converges to the nearest-neighbor one-dimensional system. We focus our study on the dependence of the dynamics on the history of the sample (aging phenomena) for different values of α. The model is known to have mean-field exponents already for values of α = 2/3. Our results indicate that the crossover to the dynamic mean-field occurs at a value of α <2/3
An efficient dilution strategy for constructing sparsely connected neural networks
In this paper we present a modification of the strongly diluted Hopfield model in which the dilution scheme, instead of being random, is inspired on biological grounds. We also show that the resulting sparsely connected neural network shows striking features in terms of performance as an associative memory device, even for noisy correlated patterns. We state analytically that under certain conditions the model does not have any upper value of the parameter α = p/C (where p is the number of patterns stored in the system and C is the coordination number of each neuron) beyond which it becomes useless as a memory device, as it is found for other models. By means of numerical simulations we demonstrate that under much weaker assumptions the neural network still performs highly efficiently in good agreement with the analytical results. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Aging in the retrieval phase of the Hopfield model
In this work we present a numerical study of the complex dynamical behavior of the Hopfield model within its retrieval phase. We find that the spin glass solutions that coexist with the retrieval attractors display a rich out of equilibrium dynamics suggesting the presence of a very intricate phase space structure, which resembles that of the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model. © 2001 Elsevier Science B.V
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
