Un'indicatore di sviluppo umano delle regioni dell'Unione Europea
The aim of this work is to define and measure a multidimensional phenomenon as the
development in Europe. The results of the application show that an efficient approach is
both selecting few non-compensatory indicators in order to represent the phenomenon and
choosing a simple aggregation function that does not permit a compensation among the
values of the indicators
The Italian Population Behaviours toward Environmental Sustainability: a study from Istat Surveys
The interest of the Scientific Community in environmental protection issues aiming at guaranteeing future sustainability is constantly increasing . For this reason, the environmental social sciences, in recent years, are treating the interrelationships between population and environment. In Italy, an informative contribution comes from both Istat traditional Multipurpose Survey "Aspects of daily life" and Istat more recent Survey on “Energy Consumption of Households”. The aims of the paper are 1) to propose synthetic measures of PECB and PEEB (respectively, Pro Environmental Curtailment and Efficiency Behaviours), by a methodology which facilitates the replicability of the analysis over time, on the basis of the upcoming Istat surveys on these topics; 2) to analyse the determinants of pro-environmental behaviours of Italian citizens, by deepening the direction of the relationships with socio-demographic and other relevant characteristics. using a multivariate data analysis approach
Proposal of a survey-based methodology for the determination of the energy consumption in the residential sector
European and national policies have encouraged the investigation of solutions for the reduction of the energy demand and the improvement of energy efficiency. In particular, in the residential sector the knowledge of actual energy uses represents a key aspect in order to achieve the goals set by European Directives. In such a context, a numerical model, implemented in Excel® and Matlab®, was developed in order to assess the energy consumption for space heating, DHW and cooking in the residential sector, based on a statistical dataset including 20,000 records that was collected by ISTAT in the context of a survey on the energy consumption of Italian families during year 2013. The space heating model is based on the definition and evaluation of classes of dwelling-types, function of the geometrical and thermo-physical properties of the dwellings and of the occupants’ uses. The energy consumption for DHW and cooking are calculated on a record per record basis according to a Standard-based approach. The present study describes the methodology and the main results of the model, which have been compared with the data of the ISTAT survey for each energy use and type of fuel. A detailed validation of the model is currently carried out based on the ISTAT survey
Eating disorders and diabetic ketoacidosis in a pregnant woman with type 1 diabetes: a case report.
Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To describe a case of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in a pregnant woman with type 1 diabetes (T1DM) and disordered eating behaviour treated with a continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion, and to discuss some aspects of the monitoring and management of DKA in pregnancy and whether a pump is the safest therapeutic choice in the presence of some eating disorders.
CASE REPORT: This 26-year-old Caucasian woman affected by T1DM was hospitalised during the last weeks of her fourth pregnancy because of DKA due to disordered eating. She was treated with a fluid infusion, intravenous insulin, and her electrolyte imbalance was carefully corrected. An elective cesarean section was performed after the correction of DKA in the 34th week (+6 days) of gestation.
CONCLUSIONS: We suggest that pregnancy in T1DM women with eating disorders may not be rare. The prevention, early recognition and aggressive management of DKA can minimise the possible complications, and is mandatory for the safety of the fetus and mother
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
