    This bachelor's thesis deals with the subject of the Japanese author Murakami Ryu and the major themes in his works. I have chosen four of his novels as representative works, i.e. Almost Transparent Blue; Piercing; In the Miso Soup and Sixty Nine. I work on the assumption that there are three key motives in author's work (violence, sex and life near American military bases) and I would like to prove that the author uses these motives to highlight the problems in the Japanese society and to critcize it to some extent. The aim of the first part is to present the author and chosen works, the second part is devoted to the chosen motives and their analysis. As far as methodology is concerned, it is based on the fictional worlds theory

    Reputation in continuous-time games with multiple commitment types

    We study a continuous-time game with imperfect monitoring in which a large player faces a continuum of infinitely-lived small players. We extend Faingold and Sannikov (2011) to a framework in which the support of the prior belief of the small players contains any finite number of commitment types. In this setting, we show the existence of a unique Markov equilibrium, we characterize a partial differential equation (PDE) for the equilibrium payoff, and we derive an optimality condition for the equilibrium actions. Also, we provide a stochastic representation of the Markov equilibrium payoffs, which is the solution to the PDE.     Robust Transport and Assembly Automation System Using Vision-Based Control Using UAV

    We propose an automated system that moves blocks to a specific location, such as a block map, using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The system was developed in a simulation environment using Gazebo simulator, and the test environment was set with different GPS noise and illuminance in order to resemble the real environment. To increase the accuracy of the system, we used an algorithm that picks up and places blocks using vision-based controls using deep learning-based object detection and recognition, not just GPS based control. In addition, when picking up and placing blocks, it is easy to execute by using a magnet module rather than a typical manipulator. Our proposed system in simulation experiments in various environments consistently showed excellent performance. The system seems to have robust performance in a more difficult environment than existing robots and has simplicity and efficiency in execution. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd

    Functional Identification of OsHk6 as a Homotypic Cytokinin Receptor in Rice with Preferential Affinity for iP

    Cytokinins are involved in key developmental processes in rice (Oryza sativa), including the regulation of cell proliferation and grain yield. However, the in vivo action of histidine kinases (OsHks), putative cytokinin receptors, in rice cytokinin signaling remains elusive. This study examined the function and characteristics of OsHk3, 4 and 6 in rice. OsHk6 was highly sensitive to isopentenyladenine (iP) and was capable of restoring cytokinin-dependent ARR6 reporter expression in the ahk2 ahk3 Arabidopsis mutant upon treatment with 1 nM iP. OsHk4 recognized trans-zeatin (tZ) and iP, while OsHk3 scarcely induced cytokinin signaling activity. OsHk4 and OsHk6 mediated the canonical two-component signaling cascade of Arabidopsis to induce phosphorylation of ARR2. OsHk4 and OsHk6 were highly expressed in spikelets, suggesting that tZ and iP might play key roles in grain development. OsHk6 formed a self-interacting homomer in rice protoplasts, although the trans-phosphorylation activity between subunits was much lower than the intra-molecular trans-phosphorylation activity. This indicates that the action mechanism of OsHks is evolutionarily diverged from bacterial histidine kinases. Ectopic expression of OsHk6 in rice calli promoted green pigmentation and subsequent shoot induction, further supporting an OsHk6 in planta function as a cytokinin receptor.     Statistical properties of chaotic microcavities in small and large opening cases

    We study the crossover behavior of statistical properties of eigenvalues in a chaotic microcavity with different refractive indices. The level spacing distributions change from Wigner to Poisson distributions, as the refractive index of a microcavity decreases. We propose a non-Hermitian matrix model with random elements describing the spectral properties of the chaotic microcavity, which exhibits the crossover behaviors as the opening strength increases.© 2019 Author(s)

    Statistics of the subgrid scales after the shock-turbulence interaction

    The interaction of a normal shock with isotropic turbulence (IT) represents a basic problem for studying some of the phenomena associated with high speed flows, such as hypersonic flight, supersonic combustion and Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF). In general, in practical applications, the shock width is much smaller than the turbulence scales and the upstream turbulent Mach number is modest. In this case, recent high resolution shock-resolved Direct Numerical Simulations (DNS) (Ryu and Livescu, J. Fluid Mech., 756, R1, 2014) show that the interaction can be described by the Linear Interaction Approximation (LIA). By using LIA to alleviate the need to solve the shock, DNS post-shock data can be generated at much higher Reynolds numbers than previously possible. Here, such results with Taylor Reynolds number around 180180 are used to investigate the properties of the subgrid scales (SGS). In particular, it is shown that the shock interaction decreases the asymmetry of the SGS dissipation PDF as the shock Mach number increases, with a significant enhancement in size of the regions and magnitude of backscatter
