    No full text
Hushåll, stad och rätt is a Festschrift to Dag Lindström, professor of history at the Department of History, Uppsala University. This book contains sixteen articles within the three themes House and Household, City and Law and they are written by colleagues and friends from Uppsala University as well as Danish, English, Finnish and other Swedish universities. The book spans the research questions and fields that have characterized Dag Lindström's long and solid historical work, whose topics range from legal, social and institutional history, to urbanization and urbanism, and houses and households in a time span from the late Middle Ages to the days of industrialization

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Kropp, själ och läkekonst. Kulturhistorisk tolkning av medicinska föremål från Vreta kloster.

During excavations of the nunnery of Vreta, a number of artefacts for medical and hygienic use were found, including medical vessels, a clasp-knife, different types of forceps, phlebotomy knives and a surgical sharp hook. The artefacts show that medical and most probably some surgical activity has taken place there. Compared to other Swedish Cistercian monasteries, as the nunnery of Gudhem and the male institutions of Alvastra and Varnhem, it is clear, though, that artefacts for medical and hygienic use are both more abundant and more differentiated concerning type at the male institutions. Most notably missing from the female institutions are specialized articles used for cleansing wounds, like curettes and probes, and hygienic articles, like ear scopes and tooth-picks/nail-cleaners. In this paper, possible explanations for this phenomenon are discussed and I argue that the answer might lie in gender differentiated forms of experiencing and expressing piety and advanced spirituality. The medieval idea of the female constitution as more physical than the male may have had an impact on women’s religious ideals, apprehensions and experiences, towards a higher inclination amongst religious women to use physical ascetics as a way to attain elevated spirituality. Certain diseases and physical complaints might therefore to a lesser extent have been seen as called for to cure when suffered by religious women than when suffered by religious men. I also propose that as women were conceived to be closer to nature, they might have been expected to have larger endurance concerning certain physical ills. I suggest that what is reflected in the archaeological materials from Swedish female and male Cistercian monasteries is a higher inclination among pious women to include the neglecting of wounds and other diseases with equivalent symptoms, as well as certain everyday hygienic practices, in the physical ascetics of dedicated religiosity

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Annanda Hjässe – Folkfester på Ombergs Hjässan och fornborgar som samlingsplatser i folktraditionen

Hjässan is called the highest hillock on Omberg in western Östergötland. The mountain and Hjässan dominate large parts of the surrounding countryside and are a central place in folk traditions around the mountain. Right next to the mountain is the famous Alvastra pile dwelling from the Neolithic period and in the area there are various central place-indicating phenomena from different periods in our history; the rock carvings in Hästholmen, the large burial ground Smörkullen from the Iron Age, the large early Christian cemetery as well as the Cistercian monastery in Alvastra. On Hjässan there is one of three ancient hillfprts that are usually dated to the Iron Age. Hjässaborgen is the largest, no less than 500 x 200 m in size. The ancient hillforts been interpreted as places of refuge, fortified farms and central meeting places. Hjässaborgen, with its central location, widely visible over large parts of western Östergötland, but at the same time large area and long, probably difficult to defend stone walls, fits better into the image of a central meeting place. This function has been noted in recent years, both in Swedish and international research. Hjässa's possible function as a central place and meeting place was followed in modern times by the large folk festivals that went by the name of Annandag Hjässe, or Ann da Hjässe, which refers to the fact that the meetings took place on Pentecost. They are documented in the 19th century. During the early 20th century, they received a large attendance of hundreds of participants. Extra trains were put into service to Alvastra railway station. In the 1930s, the festivities were attended by celebrities of the time such as Verner von Heidenstam, Prince Wilhelm, Bishop Tor Andrae and K-G Westman. As late as the 1980s, there is information that the mountain functioned as a meeting place. My article will shed light on the phenomenon surrounding this large folk festival at Omberg, and thus connect to Torun's article from 2003 about Queen Omma and Omberg in folk tradition
