The relationship between ozone and human blood in the course of a well-controlled, mild, and transitory oxidative eustress
In the last twenty years there has been a proliferation of articles on the therapeutic use of ozone. As it is well-known, the term ozone therapy is very broad. It ranges from either systemic or loco-regional administration of unstable gaseous oxygen/ozone mixtures to the topical application of stable ozonated derivatives. Anyway, in relation to the absence of specific receptors and the extreme reactivity with the biological liquids with which it comes into contact, gaseous ozone cannot be classified as either a drug or a pro-drug. When the gaseous ozone impacts a biological matrix, both reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid oxidation products (LOPs) are formed. They represent the effector molecules responsible for modulating the therapeutic activity in the body. Apart from the merits of the action mechanisms resulting from the use of ozone, this article seeks to validate the practice of ozone therapy as an adjuvant treatment in full compliance with the physiology of the whole organism

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Bioimpedance measurements in dentistry to detect inflammation: Numerical modelling and experimental results
Bioimpedance measurements represent an advantageous method to evaluate the physio-pathological conditions of biological tissues and their use is spreading in different application fields, from the evaluation of body composition to the vital signs monitoring, passing through the individuation of cancer tissues and the detection of different substances (e.g. glucose measurements in people affected by diabetes). In fact, tissues electric properties vary with their conditions; for example, electrical conductivity increases when there is an inflammatory process, because of the presence of oedema, hyperaemia and infiltration. Inflammatory phenomena are frequent in dentistry, in diseases like periodontitis and peri-implantitis; however, at present the diagnosis is mainly done with the naked eye, by observing the gingiva redness and swelling. Objective. The aim of this work is to prove the feasibility of the inflammation detection by means of bioimpedance measurements. Approach. Both numerical simulations and preliminary experimental measurements provide significant outcomes in differentiating between healthy and inflamed tissues. Main results. Percentage differences in the impedance modulus equal to 4–20% (numerical simulations) and 35–56% (experimental measurements), respectively, depending on the considered conditions (e.g. electrodes characteristics and inflammation severity), were found. Significance. Such a measure could be integrated in electromedical devices designed, for example, for the therapy of peri-implantitis, in order to personalise the therapeutic dose in terms of intensity and duration and focusing it on the impaired area, minimising the effects on the surrounding tissues
Health-Nutrients and Origin Awareness: Implications for Regional Wine Market-Segmentation Strategies Using a Latent Analysis
A healthy-nutrient wine has been recently developed by Apulian wineries (southern Italy),
using autochthonous wine grapes cultivars, selected strains and specific processes of production.
As such, this research elicits Italian wine consumers’ preferences towards this innovative Apulian
wine with regard to additional labelling information associated with health-nutrients and the origin
of grapes on the bottle of wine. For this purpose, a social survey based on the choice experiment
approach is considered. The results reveal a heterogeneity of preferences among respondents for
which the origin of wine grapes cultivars is the most appreciated (an average Willingness-to-Pay of
EUR 6.57), thereby inducing an increase in their function utility, while the health-nutrients attribute
is relatively less appreciated (an average Willingness-to-Pay of EUR 3.95). Furthermore, four class
consumers’ cluster profile have been identified in respect to their: (i) behavior and propensity to wine
consumption and purchase, (ii) health-claims importance on the wine bottle label, (iii) socio-economic
characteristics and (iv) health conditions. This paper has marketing and public implications and
contributes to an understanding of how additional information on the label of a wine bottle may
affect the market-segmentation, influence wine consumers’ utility, protect their health and increase
their level of awareness to wine ingredients labelling
A DC Microgrid as Electric Vehicle Supply Infrastructure: Energy Management Architecture and Field Implementation
The wide integration of electric mobility into distribution grids raises issues related to the safe operation of the networks, because of demand peak increase and service to be provided, especially for high charging rates and high vehicle penetration levels. Another crucial aspect concerns the development of a proper charging infrastructure with the aim of ensuring smart charging performances avoiding heavy economic efforts for users. A promising solution is represented by the combination of renewable energy source, storage and charging station in a DC microgrid framework, that could enable smart resource control and allow bidirectional power exchange with the grid for service provision. In this paper, the structure of a modular DC-based electric vehicle supply infrastructure is presented, as real demonstrator installed at the premises of the Bari Port Authority. The main features, along with the communication and control framework of the demonstrator, are described, along with control functions under implementation, and presenting some preliminary test results on the field
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
