Biblioteca DGP

    Torre de Foios, yacimiento arqueológico

    No full text

    No full text

Verifying concurrent programs by memory unwinding

    No full text
We describe a new sequentialization-based approach to the symbolic verification of multi-threaded programs with shared memory and dynamic thread creation. Its main novelty is the idea of memory unwinding, i.e., an explicit representation of the sequence of write operations into the shared memory. For the verification, we nondeterministically guess this unwinding and then simulate the behavior of the program according to any scheduling that respects this guess. This approach is complementary to other sequentializations and explores an orthogonal dimension, i.e., the number of write operations. It also simplifies the implementation of several important optimizations, in particular the targeted exposure of individual writes. We implemented this approach as code-to-code transformation from multi-threaded into nondeterministic sequential programs, which allows the reuse of sequential verification tools. Experiments show that our approach is very promising: it found all errors in the concurrency category of SV-COMP15

A goal programming model to study the impact of R&D expenditures on sustainability-related criteria: the case of Kazakhstan

    No full text
Purpose: Most countries face important economic, social and environmental challenges and are strongly committed to invest in research and development (R&D) activities to help support the long-run economic sustainable growth. This paper aims to extend the previous research on macro-economic growth models and introduces endogenous variables to determine the amount of investments in R&D activities. Design/methodology/approach: The model considers four different criteria and six economic sectors and aims at finding the optimal allocation of labor across different sectors. The model also endogenously determines the amount of investments in pollution abatement activities together with energy-related R&D efforts. The paper presents an application to the case of Kazakhstan, an emerging Asian country, that aims to become one of the top 30 most developed countries in the world by 2050. Findings: The model shows the limits of the Kazakh agenda that identified too ambitious goals as the country has to go through a sociotechnical transition that involves a range of modifications in institutional structures, together with changes in user practices and the technological dimension. Kazakhstan should invest more in R&D activities able to develop sustainable energy sources to face the current electricity consumption demand and to reduce the greenhouse gas emission in the future. Originality/value: The paper provides valuable knowledge for researchers and policy makers interested in the impact of R&D on the long-run economic sustainable growth

IFSM fractal image compression with entropy and sparsity constraints: A sequential quadratic programming approach

    No full text
We consider the inverse problem associated with IFSM: Given a target function f , find an IFSM, such that its fixed point ̄f is sufficiently close to f in the Lp distance. Forte and Vrscay [1] showed how to reduce this problem to a quadratic optimization model. In this paper, we extend the collage-based method developed by Kunze, La Torre and Vrscay ([2][3][4]), by proposing the minimization of the 1-norm instead of the 0-norm. In fact, optimization problems involving the 0-norm are combinatorial in nature, and hence in general NP-hard. To overcome these difficulties, we introduce the 1-norm and propose a Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithm to solve the corresponding inverse problem. As in Kunze, La Torre and Vrscay [3] in our formulation, the minimization of collage error is treated as a multi-criteria problem that includes three different and conflicting criteria i.e., collage error, entropy and sparsity. This multi-criteria program is solved by means of a scalarization technique which reduces the model to a single-criterion program by combining all objective functions with different trade-off weights. The results of some numerical computations are presented
