Sense of Coherence as a Resource in Promoting Well-Being and Managing Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus: A Pilot Study
When investigating the feelings of caregivers to patients with T1DM, parental stress, anxiety, and depression are found to be most prevalent, especially in the diagnostic phase and in the first months after diagnosis. In this pilot study, we research various significant elements regarding the well-being of mothers with children between 10 and 15 years of age with a chronic condition. The study focuses on a period of at least three years after the child’s diagnosis. The aims of the study are to describe our sample’s levels of satisfaction (SWLS) and subjective happiness (SHS) and to evaluate possible associations. A sample of 40 mothers was offered a series of assessment tools about psychological skills that could play a role in improving mothers’ well-being: the use of specific coping mechanisms (CISS), the methods of narrating the experience of life with a son/daughter with diabetes, the sense of coherence (SOCS 29), health parameters vs. child’s disease (HbA1c, CBCL), and socio-demographic, such as education and work. The most significant associations with respect to subjective happiness are with the sense of coherence, as a unitary value and as distinct factors, and with task-oriented coping. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Evaluation of different methods to determine total serum lipids for normalization of circulating organochlorine compounds
Objectives Serum levels of persistent organochlorine compounds may be predictive of their body burden, if adjusted by total serum lipids. Their value may be predicted by three diVerent formulae, requiring only values of
serum cholesterol and triglycerides. The study was aimed at: (i) evaluating the validity of these formulae; (ii) evaluating the inXuence of diVerent estimates on serum levels of lipid adjusted persistent organochlorine compounds. Methods We determined the levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids by enzymatic assays on serum samples from 121 subjects living in a polluted area of Northern Italy. On the same samples and on an additional set from 69 pregnant women of the same area, we determined also polychlorinated biphenyls, hexachlorobenzene and p,p-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene. In women, analytes were determined also on adipose tissue samples.
Results Formulae provided results comparable to those obtained as sum of cholesterol, triglycerides and phospholipids. In women, we found highly signiWcant relationships among lipid adjusted pollutant levels in serum and adipose tissue, independently from the used formula.
Conclusions Formulae allow a valid adjustment of organochlorine compounds in serum. The algorithm proposed by Phillips et al. provides some slight advantage over the others, in terms of simplicity of use
A Short Cycle of Narrow-Band UVB Phototherapy in the Early Phase of Dupilumab Therapy Can Provide a Quicker Improvement of Severe Atopic Dermatitis
Since the best clinical response to dupilumab is achieved after 12-16 weeks, a combination therapy at the beginning of the treatment could be a helpful strategy to reach a faster response in patients with severe atopic dermatitis (AD)
Dupilumab Treatment Efficacy and Impact on Clinical Scores, Serum Biomarkers, and Itch in Adult Patients with Atopic Dermatitis: A Retrospective Analysis
Purpose: Dupilumab, a fully human monoclonal antibody that inhibits the signaling pathways of interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13, has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD). Dupilumab has been reported to attenuate itch and reduce several serum markers, including blood lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), blood eosinophil count, and serum total immunoglobulin E (IgE). Patients and Methods: The present study investigated retrospectively changes in clinical scores and serum biomarker from 175 adults with moderate-to-severe AD treated with dupilumab. Clinical manifestations were assessed using eczema area and severity index (EASI) and visual analogue scale (VAS) for itch at baseline and subsequently at 16-week intervals up to a duration of 48 weeks. Total IgE, LDH and blood eosinophil count were also collected. Results: The dupilumab treatment significantly improved EASI and VAS scores and decreased serum levels of IgE, LDH, and total eosinophil count. The EASI scores were positively correlated with VAS for itch at all recorded time points, whereas serum biomarkers did not exhibit a strong correlation with EASI scores. Conclusion: These findings highlight the close relationship between the extent and severity of eczema and the intensity of itch experienced by patients and suggest that factors beyond the measured serum biomarkers play a significant role in the clinical manifestations of AD, emphasizing the complex nature of the disease

Risk assessment for upper extremity work related muscoloskeletal disorders by applying six methods of ergonomic: a ten years experience. The objective of this research was to verify and validate the multiple step method suggested by SIMLII guidelines and to compare results obtained by use of these methods: Washington State Standard, OCRA, HAL, RULA, OREGE and STRAIN INDEX.
METHODS:
598 workstations for a total of 1800 analysis by different methods were considered, by adopting the following multiple step procedure: prelinminary evaluation by Washington State method and OCRA checklist in all the working stations, RULA or HAL as first level evaluation, OREGE or SI as second level evaluation.
RESULTS:
The preliminary evaluation resulted negative (risk absent) in the 75% of examined work stations and by using checklist OCRA optimal-acceptable condition was found in 58% by HAL in 92% of analysis, by RULA in 100%, by OREGE in 64%; by SI in 70% of examined working positions. We observed similar evaluation of strain among methods and main differences have been observed in posture and frequency assessment.
DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:
The preliminary evaluation by State of Washington method appears to be an adequate instrument for identify the working condition at risk. All the adopted methods were in a good agreement in two estreme situations: high risk or absent risk, expecially in absent risk conditions. Level of accordance varied on the basis of their rationale and of the role of their different components so SIML indications about the critical use of biouzechanical methods and about the possible use of more than one of them (considering working chlaracteristics) have been confirmed
