No full textThe communities' wellness is shifting from purely economical evaluations, embracing socio-cultural sphere too. By setting the human issue at the centre of the project is possible to solve current needs of the society more effectively. Systemic Design methodology is innovating its own design process by focusing on humanities. In particular we propose a case study in which the complexity of socio-cultural relationships represents the plusvalue to increase the quality of exchanges among different communities. Our project is based on a network (both virtual and real) among people involved in urban events, aimed to enrich them by the improvement of their relationships pattern. This project demonstrates how the global diffusion of socialnetworking dynamics could represent an useful tool for the communication among communities. In this way it emerges how a virtuously use of global dynamics into a good project represents an augmented link with daily human habit
Carta, cartone e territori: scenari futuri per il packaging sostenibile e innovativo
No full textLe probabilità che il nostro futuro sia drasticamente diverso da oggi sono altissime e per questa ragione bisogna anticipare progettualmente scenari e visioni.
Il cambiamento climatico, la crescita della popolazione, la scarsità di risorse chiave, il grande sviluppo di nuove tecnologie stanno già influenzando il panorama industriale e porteranno a cambiamenti ancora più profondi nei prossimi 30 anni. Entro il 2025 si prevede che ci sarà un altro miliardo di persone che vivono su questo pianeta e il doppio delle persone anziane. Il cambiamento climatico avrà un forte impatto sull’agricoltura e sui modelli di utilizzo della terra a livello globale e sui relativi sistemi di trasporto. I sistemi di comunità cambieranno radicalmente, influenzando i bisogni degli utenti e dell’industria del packaging così come materiali e processi produttivi. La tecnologia continuerà a trasformare le nostre vite, il nostro modo di essere, le modalità con cui ci istruiamo e con cui lavoriamo, creando nuove opportunità, ma alienadandoci talvolta dallo spazio fisico.
I comportamenti delle persone saranno influenzati dalla scarsità di risorse, dal cambiamento climatico e dalla crescente domanda di sostenibilità.
Alla luce di queste premesse, gli studenti del Master in Eco-Packaging - Systemic Innovation Design per il progetto del packaging del Politecnico di Torino all’interno del corso di Design Lab 1 in collaborazione con Comieco e sotto la supervisione didattica e scientifica di Paolo Tamborrini e Cristina Marino hanno lavorato allo sviluppo di cinque scenari, che esplorano le sfide future per l’industria del packaging e gli attuali modelli di business su cui si basano carta e cartone.
Gli scenari, che spaziano dalla logistica al packaging per l’e-commerce in senso stretto si rivolgono all’industria di settore, ma allargano lo sguardo a tutte le interazioni e le aziende ad esso connesse affinché siano pronte ad accogliere le innumerevoli sfide che stanno già plasmando il nostro mondo, per affrontare i gravi rischi e cogliere le ricche opportunità che si presenteranno nel futuro. Esemplificando traiettorie plausibili per il packaging design gli scenari approfondiscono diverse tematiche: dalla scarsità di risorse e i conseguenti nuovi comportamenti da parte dell’utenza alla cultura tecnologica immersiva che ridefinisce i concetti di tempo e spazio; da un territorio fiorente di città smart dalla natura collaborativa ad un cambiamento di paradigma che metta al centro il benessere psico-fisico e le passioni e le relazioni tra gli utenti.
Ognuno degli scenari emersi specula sulle sfide e le opportunità del futuro ricercando soluzioni progettuali e intuizioni.
Attraverso il racconto degli scenari immaginati e disegnati si possono definire alcune linee guida per le aziende di carta e cartone per aiutarle a intraprendere azioni nella direzione di ricerca e sviluppo di soluzioni innovative e sostenibile dal punto di vista economico, sociale e ambientale

No full textThe awareness of the fundamental role of innovation in the challenges of global and national society is well known and has been widely discussed. What is less obvious today is which innovation strategy has to be adopted to develop and drive the project onto this path. That is why researchers are looking for, studying and experimenting different types of methodologies. The innovation design lab does the same and believes that the design process initiative is a key to aspirations for a prosperous, innovative future. Innovation and the related design process of creative destruction lead to new ideas, new entrepreneurs and new business models, thus contributing to the establishment of new markets and the creation of new jobs in a sustainable way. Sustainable innovation is, therefore, the key to enable green and growth to go hand in hand, and design has gained the multidisciplinary expertise to drive it in the right way. A Visual Analytics System for Managing Mobile Network Failures
No full textLarge mobile operators have to quickly react to mobile network failures to ensure service continuity and this task is a complex one, due to the continuous and very fast evolution of mobile networks: from 2G to 3G and onto LTE, each significant milestone in the mobile technology has increased the complexity of networks and services management. Failures must be promptly analyzed and sorted according to different prioritizing objectives, in order to devise suitable fix plans able to mitigate failures impact in terms of money loss or damaged reputation. This paper presents a visual analytics solution for supporting the failure management activities of TIM (Telecom Italia Group), the biggest Italian provider of telecommunications services with over 30M active mobile subscribers. The proposed system has been developed collaboratively by University of Rome ''La Sapienza'', Polytechnic of Turin, and TIM, analyzing the operators' requirements and viable optimization strategies for prioritizing interventions that rely on statistical data on mobile cells occupation, in order to identify the impact of failures in term of end users' connectivity

Immuno-detection of anthrose containing tetrasaccharide in the exosporium of Bacillus anthracis and Bacillus cereus strains
No full textAbstract Aims: Bacillus anthracis strains of various origins were analysed with the view to describe intrinsic and persistent structural components of the Bacillus collagen-like protein of anthracis glycoprotein associated anthrose containing tetrasaccharide in the exosporium. Methods and Results: The tetrasaccharide consists of three rhamnose residues and an unique monosaccharide - anthrose. As anthrose was not found in spores of related strains of bacteria, we envisioned the detection of B. anthracis spores based on antibodies against anthrose-containing polysaccharides. Carbohydrate-protein conjugates containing the synthetic tetrasaccharide, an anthrose-rhamnose disaccharide or anthrose alone were employed to immunize mice. All three formulations were immunogenic and elicited IgG responses with different fine specificities. All sera and monoclonal antibodies derived from tetrasaccharide immunized mice cross-reacted not only with spore lysates of a panel of virulent B. anthracis strains, but also with some of the B. cereus strains tested. Conclusions: Our results demonstrate that antibodies to synthetic carbohydrates are useful tools for epitope analyses of complex carbohydrate antigens and for the detection of particular target structures in biological specimens. Significance and Impact of the Study: Although not strictly specific for B. anthracis spores, antibodies against the tetrasaccharide may have potential as immuno-capturing components for a highly sensitive spore detection syste
