Defining, evaluating, and achieving accessible library resources: a review of theories and methods

    No full text
There is an increasingly rich body of literature surrounding digital accessibility in libraries, ranging from practical guides for authors of web content, to principles of universal design, to the ethical considerations of libraries subscribing to packages of digital content, to critical examinations of the accessibility guidelines themselves. The goal of this paper is to review the library and information science (LIS) literature related to the accessibility of digital resources by individuals with mental, physical or other impairments, in order to assess the state of research in the field and to explore new avenues for investigation. This review is intended to be illustrative, not exhaustive; less attention is given to studies of specific tools that will become quickly outdated, and more is given to underlying considerations and approaches that will remain relevant even as technologies change. This review offers theoretical and practical perspectives from recent work that can assist librarians in planning and decision making as they deal with an increasingly complex landscape of digital resources.I don't know the vol/issue yet - can I edit the entry later, once I have that info? Or should I wait to submit to SOAR?Peer reviewe

"Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2013". December 9~13, 2013. edited by Tadashi Ochiai, Takeshi Tsuji and Iwao Kimura. The papers presented in this volume of RIMS Kôkyûroku Bessatsu are in final form and refereed. This is a research announcement of the paper [O] by the author. We explain the construction and an outline of the proof of the log global Cartier transform of higher level, which is a log and higher level version of the global Cartier transform of Ogus-Vologodsky

Predicting Long-Term Effects of Infrastructure Development Projects in Continental South East Asia: IDE Geographical Simulation Model

    No full text
It is important to develop a rigorous economic geography model for predicting changes in the location of population and industries across regions in the process of economic integration. The IDE Geographical Simulation Model (IDE-GSM) has been developed for two major objectives: (1) to determine the dynamics of locations of population and industries in East Asia in the long term, and (2) to analyze the impact of specific infrastructure projects on the regional economy at sub-national levels. The basic structure of the IDE-GSM is introduced in this article and accompanied with results of test analyses on the effects of the East West Economic Corridor on regions in Continental South East Asia. Results indicate that border costs appear to play a big role in the location choice of populations and industries, often a more important role than physical infrastructures themselves.Economic geography; Infrastructure development; Custom clearance

VloeistofmechanicaHydraulic EngineeringCivil Engineering and Geoscience

A new conjecture for Rubin-Stark elements and its applications (Algebraic Number Theory and Related Topics 2013)

We review a new conjecture recently proposed by the author, and also by Mazur and Rubin. We explain that this conjecture is a natural generalization of Darmon s conjecture on cyclotomic units, and Gross s conjectures on Stickelberger elements

Can I Call Kimura Crazy?: Ethical Tensions in the Cultural Defense

    No full text
Using the tragic case of Fumiko Kimura as a back drop, the author discusses the impact of culture on defendants and argues for a client-centered approach that considers the client beyond the walls of their legal issue. The author concludes her article with a discussion of legal ethics, advocating for a more well rounded vision of the client that includes both legal and cultural interests
