The influence of T cell cross-reactivity on HCV-peptide specific human T cell response

Detection of hepatitis C virus (HCV)-specific T cell response after exposure to hepatitis C in anti-HCV-positive or anti-HCV-negative patients has been associated with an ability to successfully control the infection. However, cross-reactivity between common human pathogens and HCV sequences has been demonstrated. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of T cell cross-reactivity on HCV-specific T cell responses and their detection in HCV infected and non-infected subjects. The magnitude, function, and cross-reactivity of HCV peptide reactive T cells were studied in non-HCV-infected newborns and adults using a broad array of HCV peptides (601 peptides) spanning the entire HCV sequence. Comparisons were made with responses present in recovered and in chronically HCV-infected patients. HCV peptide reactive T cells are detectable in adults irrespective of previous HCV exposure and cross-reactivity between HCV peptides, and sequences of common pathogens, such as human herpes virus 1, can be demonstrated. Furthermore, the comprehensive magnitude of HCV-peptide reactive T cells present in chronically HCV-infected patients is similar and in some cases even lower than that of HCV-peptide reactive T cell response found in HCV-negative adults. In conclusion, the presence of oligo-specific HCV-peptide reactive T cells in humans does not always reflect a demonstration of previous HCV contact, whereas cross-reactivity with other common pathogens can potentially influence the HCV-specific T cell profile. The conspicuous deficit of HCV-peptide-specific T cells found in chronically HCV-infected patients confirms the profound collapse of virus-specific T cell response caused by HCV persistence. This article analyzes the literary antecedents and personality of La niña mala (2006) main character. In our opinion, the author takes three heroines of French Literature as a model for his character: Marguerite Gautier – a character who gives life to The Lady of the Camellias (1848) by Alexandre Dumas (son) – and Emma Bovary and Marie Arnoux – respectively protagonists of Madame Bovary (1857) and L’éducation sentimental (1869) by Gustave Flaubert. We will analyze the personality of the heroines and through examples we will highlight similarities with the character created by Mario Vargas Llosa

Evaluation of earthquake resistance of masonry building Mala vas

The evaluation of the seismic resistance of a masonry building, which is located in the village Mala vas, Posočje, is presented. In the first part, the occurrence of earthquakes, the seismic action on buildings and the impact of earthquakes on masonry buildings are briefly described. In the following part, we present theoretical background for calculation of resistance of masonry walls taking into account different types of failure. The second part of the thesis addresses the seismic performance assessment of masonry building. Seismic forces were determined with the lateral force method and distributed on certain walls. The\ud material characteristics were assessed based on the literature and the Eurocodes. We first made the evaluation of seismic resistance for each wall at the ground floor taking into account both rectangular directions of the building. Based on the results it can be concluded that the seismic resistance of the residential house Mala vas is not sufficient in terms of requirements of Eurocode

Optimal scaling and diffusion limits for the Langevin algorithm in high dimensions

The Metropolis-adjusted Langevin (MALA) algorithm is a sampling algorithm which makes local moves by incorporating information about the gradient of the target density. In this paper we study the efficiency of MALA on a natural class of target measures supported on an infinite dimensional Hilbert space. These natural measures have density with respect to a Gaussian random field measure and arise in many applications such as Bayesian nonparametric statistics and the theory of conditioned diffusions. We prove that, started at stationarity, a suitably interpolated and scaled version of the Markov chain corresponding to MALA converges to an infinite dimensional diffusion process. Our results imply that, in stationarity, the MALA algorithm applied to an N-dimensional approximation of the target will take O(N1/3) steps to explore the invariant measure. As a by-product of the diffusion limit it also follows that the MALA algorithm is optimized at an average acceptance probability of 0.574. Until now such results were proved only for targets which are products of one dimensional distributions, or for variants of this situation. Our result is the first derivation of scaling limits for the MALA algorithm to target measures which are not of the product form. As a consequence the rescaled MALA algorithm converges weakly to an infinite dimensional Hilbert space valued diffusion, and not to a scalar diffusion. The diffusion limit is proved by showing that a drift-martingale decomposition of the Markov chain, suitably scaled, closely resembles an Euler-Maruyama discretization of the putative limit. An invariance principle is proved for the Martingale and a continuous mapping argument is used to complete the proof

V diplomski nalogi obravnavam termalni turizem. Potrebe turistov se spreminjajo, zato morajo terme slediti sodobnim trendom in svojo ponudbo prilagajati zahtevam vseh generacij obiskovalcev in gostov. Potrebna je stalna skrb za izboljšanje kakovosti storitev. V glavnem delu naloge predstavim ponudbo storitev Bioterm Mala Nedelja. Terme ponujajo oddih v naravi, zdravilno termalno vodo, domačo hrano in storitve dobrega počutja. Posebej analiziram ponudbo storitev term in njihovo kakovost. In my graduation paper, I am examining thermal tourism. The needs of tourists are changing, and thermal resorts need to keep up with the trends and offer something for all generations of guests. There has to be constant attention on improving the quality of tourism services. In the main part, I am presenting the services of the resort Bioterme, Mala Nedelja. The thermal resort offers nature vacations, thermal water, local food, and wellness services. I am especially analysing the quality of services. Based on a survey I am analysing the motives and expectations of the spa’s guests, as well as their satisfaction with catering and other services. I recognise that the spa offers environmentally friendly services. It would be advisable to extend the scope of offerings to include health services, as well a wide range of wellness services. With the introduction of new services, the spa resort could extend the stay of guests in the hotel and increase the number of visitors and multi-day tourists
