Intensity-Duration-Frequency Relationship of Point Precipitation at Uccle.Reference period 1934-1983
The intensity-duration-frequency relationship of the point precipitation at the station of Uccle/Ukkel is studied, using the charts of the Hellmann-Fuess recording precipitation gauge for the 50 years reference period 1934-1983. For the frequency analysis the annual maximum series approach was used in conjunction with the Gumbel distribution function. Intensity-duration (containing the return period T implicitly intensity-duration-frequency (containing T explicitly) curves based on the observed values are proposed; the results are presented under several aspects.

Inclusive J/{psi}, {psi}(2S) and b-quark production in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV
Inclusive J/{psi} and {psi}(2S) production has been studied in {bar p}p collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV using the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The products of production cross section times branching fraction have been measured as functions of P{sub T} for J/{psi}({psi}(2S)) {yields} {mu}{sup +}{mu}{sup {minus}} in the kinematic range P{sub T}{sup J/{psi}({psi}(2S))} > 6 GeV/c and {vert_bar}{eta}{sup J/{psi}({psi}(2S)){vert_bar}} {le} 0.5. The products of the integrated cross section times branching fraction are calculated and used to obtain an inclusive b-quark production cross section

Search for W prime and Z prime at CDF
We have searched for heavy charged and neutral vector bosons via the decays W{prime} {yields} ev, W{prime} {yields} {mu}v, Z{prime} {yields} {mu}{mu} in p{bar p} collisions at {radical}s = 1.8 TeV, using data taken with the collider Detector at Fermilab. The nonobservation of these processes leads to a lower limit (95% confidence level) of 520 GeV/c{sup 2} on the mass of the W{prime} and of 412 GeV/C{sup 2} on the mass of the Z{prime}, assuming standard model coupling to fermions. 12 refs., 6 figs., 1 tab
The Saif al-mulūk wa-l-ḥukkām of Muḥyī ad-Dīn Muḥammad b. Sulaimān al-Kāfiyaǧī (d. 1474), Edition, translation and commentary.
Muḥyi ad-Dīn al-Kāfiyaǧī, author of Saif 'l-mulūk wa-l-ḥukkām (The sword of kings and rulers), lived in Mamluk Cairo in the fifteenth century.
His work reminds rulers to practice justice and benevolence towards their suzerains. At the same time it urges people to show obedience to their just rulers. Central for the work is its emphasis for justice as a human and social value, which was postulated from God, who demanded from the human kind to guarantee the main requirements for the cohesion and maintenance of the Islamic society. Thus Saif 'l-mulūk wa-l-ḥukkām discusses important political, social and moral issues and presents reforms in terms of advice and suggestions.
The book belongs to the genre of ”Mirrors of Princes”. Therefore this study is supposed to give an overview of the genre and its development in a Muslim context. Furthermore it will contain a list of works, which can be seen as advising literature. Since this study is an edition of al-Kāfiyaǧīs work, it will explain the content of the manuscripts first, followed by the edition and translation of the text with commentaries about the manuscript and its scientific significance. Among other things this part will attempt to clarify the original motives for writing Saif 'l-mulūk wa-l-ḥukkām

A correlational study regarding COMPASS' ability to predict GPA at a Western Wisconsin Technical College
Plan BFrom a historical perspective, college admissions testing has been utilized since the 14th century. Preparation and entrance requirements for a particular college has changed over the subsequent centuries. In the United States, college admissions began regulations in response to the growing aversion to diverse methods of college preparation. College admission boards were established and standardized testing for student academic success has been utilized at most colleges and universities since the 21st century (Promfret,1975). The Computerized-Adaptive Placement Assessment and Support System (COMPASS) is a comprehensive software and operational support package developed by the American College Testing program (ACT) to help post-secondary institutions place students into appropriate entry level courses and to diagnose specific strengths and weaknesses in potential students. Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) is a public, post-secondary educational institution that offers associate degrees, technical diplomas, certificates and non- credit courses to residents of northwestern and eastern Minnesota. Admissions into WITC involves meeting for an interview with a counselor and examining factors such as ACT scores, previous grades, and other standardized tests such as COMPASS to assess potential students for admissions. The purpose of this correlational study is to determine if COMPASS assessment scores accurately predict first-year student success or GPA. The hypothesis in the study is: no significant relationship exists between the COMPASS scores and GPA of first-year technical college students at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. The subjects will consist of first-year students with full COMPASS scores (i.e. reading, writing, and math). COMPASS scores and GPA data will be analyzed using the Statistical Package of Social Sciences (SPSS) by way of linear regression. A variety of research has been conducted focusing on college admissions testing, but none of the studies looked specifically at the use of COMPASS reading, writing, and math components in the Wisconsin Technical College System. An unstructured research project reviewed archival records of students and it appeared that a lack of correlation exists between COMPASS scores and GPA, (Grade Point Average) of first-year technical college students at Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. To determine if this assessment accurately predicts the academic success (AKA: Grade Point Average or GPA) of first-year students, this research will compare COMPASS scores of first-year students with their GPA
Theology, Politics and Society: the Missing Link. Studying Religion in the Mamluk Period
The chapter focuses on a few problematic
topics which have so far received little attention in contemporary
scholarship on religion in the Mamluk period. In particular it tries to shed light on what the author describes as a missing link between theological production and its social and political
significance, between theologians and society at large, between ideas about God and their relevance to people’s lives.
The article argues that exploring the link between society and theology may be a rewarding research enterprise. An attention to this link is generally missing in scholarship both on the intellectual and the socio-religious history of the Mamluk period. The paper identifies the reasons for this state of affairs and provides a sample of materials that proves that we do not lack the resources for pursuing research in this direction. The paper advocates an interdisciplinary approach where the efforts of experts in Islamic theology and historians interested in religion and society ought to merge
