This is from tape numbers 21 and 22 in the "Saving the Legacy Oral History ProjectWalter Stewart (b. 1917) talks about his ancestors being early settlers of Payson, Utah, and discusses raising and selling racehorses. Other topics covered include the Depression, his LDS mission to Scotland, and ROTC. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was assigned to the 8th Air Force, 93rd Bomb Group. He speaks at length about his combat missions, the Ploesti raid, piloting the "Utah Man," the rescue of downed crew members, touring the United States on a morale-building assignment, and his post-war reserve duty. 61 pages
Deformation density studies of ring systems. 2. The deformation density of the diazirine ring in the X-ray structure of 3-[(p-Nitrophenoxy) methyl]-3-chlorodiazirine
The crystal structure and electron density of 3-[(p-nitrophenoxy)methyl]-3-chlorodiazirine have been analyzed using single crystal X-ray diffraction at 208 K with Mo K alpha radiation to a resolution of sin(theta(max))/lambda = 1.126 Angstrom(-1). A total of 10 440 measured reflections gave 7742 unique reflections with R(m) = 0.026. A multipole atomic density model was fitted to these reflections to give an R(F) = 0.0311. The deformation density of the phenyl portion of the compound is as expected. The dynamic deformation density of the diazirine ring, however, suggests that the bonding in the three-membered ring is a combination of the classical severely-strained cr bonding system with a significant contribution of a a donation from the N=N to an sp(2) carbon. Sunitinib treatment exacerbates intratumoral heterogeneity in metastatic renal cancer

Powles).Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of VEGF targeted therapy (sunitinib) on molecular intratumoral heterogeneity (ITH) in metastatic clear cell renal cancer (mccRCC). Experimental design: Multiple tumor samples (n=187 samples) were taken from the primary renal tumors of mccRCC patients who were sunitinib treated (n=23, SuMR clinical trial) or untreated (n=23, SCOTRRCC study). ITH of pathological grade, DNA (aCGH), mRNA (Illumina Beadarray) and candidate proteins (reverse phase protein array) were evaluated using unsupervised and supervised analyses (driver mutations, hypoxia and stromal related genes). ITH was analysed using intratumoral protein variance distributions and distribution of individual patient aCGH and gene expression clustering. Results: Tumor grade heterogeneity was greater in treated compared to untreated tumors (P=0.002). In unsupervised analysis, sunitinib therapy was not associated with increased ITH in DNA or mRNA. However, there was an increase in ITH for the driver mutation gene signature (DNA and mRNA) as well as increasing variability of protein expression with treatment (p<0.05). Despite this variability, significant chromosomal and transcript changes to key targets of sunitinib, such as VHL, PBRM1 and CAIX, occurred in the treated samples. Conclusions: These findings suggest that sunitinib treatment has significant effects on the expression and ITH of key tumor and treatment specific genes/proteins in mccRCC. The results, based on primary tumor analysis, do not support the hypothesis that resistant clones are selected and predominate following targeted therapy.Peer reviewe
Jet p[subscript T] resummation in Higgs production at NNLL' + NNLO
We present predictions for Higgs production via gluon fusion with a p[subscript T] veto on jets and with the resummation of jet-veto logarithms at NNLL′ + NNLO order. These results incorporate explicit O(α[2 over s]) calculations of soft and beam functions, which include the dominant dependence on the jet radius R. In particular the NNLL′ order accounts for the correct boundary conditions for the N[superscript 3]LL resummation, for which the only unknown ingredients are higher-order anomalous dimensions. We use scale variations in a factorization theorem in both rapidity and virtuality space to estimate the perturbative uncertainties, accounting for both higher fixed-order corrections as well as higher-order towers of jet-p[subscript T] logarithms. This formalism also predicts the correlations in the theory uncertainty between the exclusive 0-jet and inclusive 1-jet bins. At the values of R used experimentally, there are important corrections due to jet algorithm clustering that include logarithms of R. Although we do not sum logarithms of R, we do include an explicit contribution in our uncertainty estimate to account for higher-order jet clustering logarithms. Precision predictions for this H + 0-jet cross section and its theoretical uncertainty are an integral part of Higgs analyses that employ jet binning.United States. Dept. of Energy. Absolute identification is relative: a reply to Brown, Marley, and Lacouture (2007)
N. Stewart, G. D. A. Brown, and N. Chater presented a relative judgment model (RJM) of absolute identification, in which the current stimulus is judged relative to the preceding stimulus. S. Brown, A. A. J. Marley, and Y. Lacouture found that the RJM does not predict their finding of increased accuracy after large stimulus jumps, except at the expense of other effects. In fact, the RJM does predict both the core effects and increased accuracy after large jumps (although it underestimates this effect) when better constrained parameters are estimated from the trial-by-trial raw data rather than from summary plots. Further, a modified RJM, in which the stimulus from two trials ago is sometimes used as a referent, provides a better fit
