    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Abstract: Moving toward a collaborative and cooperative maritime ecosystem has been a hot topic of discussion for a while, to the point that for maritime supply actors, co-innovation should now be the new normal. In order to manage the end-to-end integration of maritime supply chain processes, each stakeholder needs to control their maritime supply chain (i.e., reduce uncertainty) and create value (e.g., cost reduction) for every actor involved in the sustainable maritime ecosystem, with the aim of serving their customers better. Given this context, technological challenges (e.g., different standards, interoperability, cybersecurity, and energy consumption) must be faced from a logistic corridor point of view in order to guarantee the greatest advantages for all involved actors. A cooperative maritime system is a step toward creating a maritime supply chain ecosystem or network, but ad hoc initiatives should be replaced by more overarching strategies. Moving toward a collaborative and cooperative maritime sector is thus the next logical step for maritime supply chain actors in order to enable innovation and create a new competitive edge. From the industrial and economic perspectives, this trend of (maritime) actors banding together to form platform-enabled ecosystems can increase their strengths and competitiveness (Sys and Vanelslander, 2020). Thus, the implementation of a cooperative ecosystem is paramount in order to achieve the required sustainability goals

    Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Abstract: ICT innovation has become a key prerequisite for maritime supply chain (MarSC) stakeholders to remain competitive. In this context, new technological advancements from early EDI-based (electronic data interchange) solutions to contemporary blockchain-based tools are continuously changing the market. The MarSC actors need to decide which ICT solution to implement. In this process, own financial benefits are key. Equally so, the broader effects on other stakeholders participating in the chain are relevant. However, there is no comprehensive framework available to identify the costs and benefits of ICT innovation in the MarSC reported in the literature, nor applications that calculate their cost-effectiveness. This research identifies the cost-effectiveness of integration practices introduced by ICT innovation in the MarSC. To do so, it develops, validates and applies a comprehensive costs and benefits framework taking into consideration key characteristics of ICT innovation. A collection of 44 cases provides further empirical evidence with regard to the cost and benefit elements they generate. Subsequently, four detailed cost-effectiveness analyses are carried out focusing on integration. The first analysis shows how an internal data integration practice is cost-effective for a road transport company and reduces external environmental effects at the same time. The second one studies horizontal data-integration practices in the MarSC. Focusing on data integration amongst hinterland transport operators, the analysis proves that taking a multi-disciplinary approach in building ICT innovation provides a more cost-effective outcome. The third case study focuses on vertical data integration in the MarSC. It discusses the cost-effectiveness of three strategies to implement a blockchain-based application in the MarSC that facilitates the official documents transfer. This last analysis provides evidence with regard to the increase in a community\u2019s competitive advantage, when a mixed data integration tool is used. This tool is developed in the framework of a port community system. Overall, this dissertation provides new relevant insights with regard to costs and benefits generated by ICT innovation in the MarSC, and is valuable for both academia and industry

    The flow of cocaine through the port of Antwerp is a “glocal” phenomenon as cocaine trafficking is a global phenomenon with local impact on crime in the port and its surroundings. This paper addresses the announced Belgian plan (Stroomplan) to tackle this phenomenon. This plan is studied using the conceptual framework of nodal governance. It puts a focus on the diversity in views and approaches by the public and private actors involved. Findings from previous port-related research on these views and approaches are used as a source of inspiration to reflect upon expected dynamics and possible pitfalls in the implementation process of the Stroomplan.
