Multi Wear Response Optimization of Ti-6Al-7Nb Biomedical Alloy
Abstract: Titanium-Niobium (Ti-Nb) based alloys are predominantly used as an implant material within the Bio-medical field due to their unique characteristics such as non-toxicity, better Osseo-integration, high resistance to corrosion, high strength to weight quantitative relation and biocompatibility. This paper proposes to optimize the control parameters for multi-response optimization of Ti-6Al-7Nb bio-medical alloy based Grey Relational Analysis combined with the Taguchi approach. Wear rate (WR), coefficient of friction (COF), and frictional force were the response characteristics studied (FF). The Taguchi methodology is used in conjunction with the grey interpersonal evaluation as a performance index to determine the best set of control parameters. Applied Load, Rotational Speed, and Time were the control parameters evaluated. Experimentations are designed using L9 Taguchi's orthogonal array and carried out on a pin-on-disc setup in agreement by ASTM G99. The experimental outcomes display that the applied load has the greatest impact on the Ti-6Al-7Nb bio-medical alloy's various wear characteristics. Fracture initiation and propagation in poroelastic medium and investigation of potential for introducing a secondary fracture treatment
The objective of this thesis is to study the poroelastic effect on the primary fracture initiation, fracture propagation and stress reversal induced due to production of hydrocarbons. In this thesis potential for introducing a secondary fracture along a different azimuth to the primary fracture is also investigated. In view of this a series of numerical models to simulate fracture propagation
in poroelastic medium, production and capture the stress reversal due to production were formulated. The hydraulic fracture
model takes into account the interaction of the fracture, wellbore and the reservoir in a fully coupled manner. This allows a
realistic simulation of near fracture behaviour such as leak-off and back stress.
It was found that fracture propagation pressure is higher for poroelastic medium than that for elastic medium. The rate of fracture
growth was high at high injection rates, low values of fracture toughness and in low permeability reservoirs. A wide fracture is
achieved for formation with high values of fracture toughness and also in case of high viscous fluids used for fracture treatment.
It was also found that horizontal permeability anisotropy has a significant impact on production from a hydraulically treated
reservoir: production is high when ky (in the direction perpendicular to fracture azimuth) is higher than kx.
The stress reversal induced by production from a hydraulically stimulated reservoir was dependent on many factors. A larger
stress reversal window was obtained in case of reservoirs with low permeability, low stress differential (difference between
minimum and maximum horizontal stress) and high pressure differential (difference between initial reservoir pressure and
wellbore pressure). For longer initial fracture half lengths, larger stress reversal regions were obtained.
Based on combinations of horizontal permeability anisotropy and initial fracture half length optimal time window for refracturing
was evaluated. From the results of this study it was observed that conducting of a secondary fracture treatment is more beneficial
with short initial hydraulic fracture half length and favourable horizontal permeability anisotropy (kx > ky). The numerical
procedure presented in this study is able to identify the optimal time for refracture treatment based on the extent of the stress
reversal region and cumulative production obtained from the combination of primary and secondary hydraulically induced
fractures
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
