Kweku was born in Alexander City, Alabama and attended the Alexander City Colored High School (now known as the Laurel School). He was named by his parents, Donald Sutton. When he was young he learned how to play the trumpet and that skill became a lifelong pursuit for him. He and other classmates had to go to school early so that they could help the janitor shovel coal for heat. He remembers an excellent school attended by black students with a total of 35 pupils
A Collection of Tales by Mr. Ken Sutton
Notes - Mr. Sutton tells eight trapping, hunting and fishing tales, detailing his many exciting encounters with bears, wolves, lynx and storms. He narrates a bad personal accident on a trap line where he severed the main artery to his brain (along with his ear) and lived to tell about it (much to his surgeon's surprise.)
