    Autonomous and Remote Controlled Humanoid Robot for Fitness Training

    The world population currently counts more of 617 million people over 65 years old. COVID-19 has exposed this population group to new restrictions, leading to new difficulties in care and assistance by family members. New technologies can reduce the degree of isolation of these people, helping them in the execution of healthy activities such as performing periodic sports routines. NAO robots find in this a possible application; being able to alternate voice commands and execution of movements, they can guide elderly people in performing gymnastic exercises. Additional encouragement could come through demonstrations of the exercises and verbal interactions using the voice of loved ones (for example, grandchildren). These are transmitted in real time to the NAO which streams the video of older people exercising, bringing the two parties involved closer together. This proposal, realized with the robot NAO V6, allows to have a help at home ready to motivate, teach the exercises and train the elderly living alone at home

    Coordination and Cooperation in Robot Soccer

    Aiming at improving our physical strength and expanding our knowledge, tournaments and competitions have always contributed to our personal growth. Robotics and AI are no exception, and since beginning, competitions have been exploited to improve our understanding of such research areas (e.g. Chess, VideoGames, DARPA). In fact, the research community has launched (and it is involved) in several robotics competitions that provide a two-fold benefit of (i) promoting novel approaches and (ii) valuate proposed solutions systematically and quantitatively. In this paper, we focus on a particular research area of Robotics and AI: we analyze multi-robot systems deployed in a cooperative-adversarial environment being tasked to collaborate to achieve a common goal, while competing against an opposing team. To this end, RoboCup provide the best benchmarking environment by implementing such a challenging problem in the game of soccer. Sports, in fact, represent extremely complex challenge that require a team of robots to show dexterous and fluid movements and to feature high-level cognitive capabilities. Here, we analyse methodologies and approaches to address the problem of coordination and cooperation and we discuss state-of-the-art solutions that achieve effective decision-making processes for multi-robot adversarial scenarios

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Adaptive Team Behavior Planning Using Human Coach Commands

    In its operating life, an agent that needs to act in real environments is required to deal with rules and constraints that humans ask to satisfy. The set of rules specified by the human might influence the role of the agent without changing its goal or its current task. To this end, classical planning methodologies can be enriched with temporal goals and constraints that enforce non-Markovian properties on past traces. This work aims at exploring the application of real-time dynamic generation of policies whose possible trajectories are compliant with a set of Pure-Past Linear Time Logic rules, introducing novel human-robot interaction modalities for the high-level control of strategies for multiple agents. For proving the effectiveness of the proposed approach, we have carried out an evaluation on a partially observable, unpredictable, and dynamic scenario: the RoboCup soccer competition. In particular, we exploit human indications to condition the robot’s behavior before or during the time of the match, as happens during human soccer matches

    LLM Based Multi-agent Generation of Semi-structured Documents from Semantic Templates in the Public Administration Domain

    In the last years’ digitalization process, the creation and management of documents in various domains, particularly in Public Administration (PA), have become increasingly complex and diverse. This complexity arises from the need to handle a wide range of document types, often characterized by semi-structured forms. Semi-structured documents present a fixed set of data without a fixed format. As a consequence, a template-based solution cannot be used, as understanding a document requires the extraction of the data structure. The recent introduction of Large Language Models (LLMs) has enabled the creation of customized text output satisfying user requests. In this work, we propose a novel approach that combines the LLMs with prompt engineering and multi-agent systems for generating new documents compliant with a desired structure. The main contribution of this work concerns replacing the commonly used manual prompting with a task description generated by semantic retrieval from an LLM. The potential of this approach is demonstrated through a series of experiments and case studies, showcasing its effectiveness in real-world PA scenarios
