Implementing TuoteTalo is a multi-stage process. Transferring project management skills to new generation of Puusuutarit ry has previously been challenging, as there has been no clear guide on the project phases and management. The thesis was commissioned by Puusuutarit ry, an association of construction engineering students at Tampere University of Applied Sciences. The purpose of this thesis was to develop a practical and comprehensive handbook to support TuoteTalo's process management. The study focused on managing and improving TuoteTalo’s implementation process, covering key stages of construction, time management, and risk mitigation strategies at phases of the project. The thesis was conducted as an empirical study, drawing on practical experience gained from holding key responsibilities within Puusuutarit’s TuoteTalo project, as well as reviewing existing documentation such as work hour records and financial reports. The study covered two operational periods, during which the author first served as a procurement coordinator and later as a procurement manager. The findings of the study indicated that careful planning, an efficient procurement process, and efficient resource management were key factors in the project's success. A potential topic for further research could be a study focusing on the TuoteTalo construction process, with a broader emphasis on structural and technical details

This thesis aims to serve as a manual and record of events that followed the ide- ation, process, and execution of building a brand identity for Pioneer Association Ry. The creator of the new brand identity is the author of this thesis, and the commissionaire is the non-profit organization Pioneer Association Ry. Pioneer Association Ry is a non-profit organization built by students with the aims of generating a safe network for young second-generation immigrants, born and raised in Finland, but that still feel divided in society by their back- grounds. The goal is to inspire and offer opportunities to these young people in order to help them build a suitable career path. The author of this thesis actively approached the organization in order to take part of their visual design challenges. They were facing a lack of creatives willing to collaborate with the elaboration of the brand identity for the recently registered association. The author proposed to collaborate on this project by offering them the brand identity creation they needed, plus a record and compilation of the process under the form of this thesis report. The quantitative research data for this thesis is collected mainly through an online questionnaire. The questionnaire will rotate around the topics of Brand Image and Awareness, as its main goal is that of understanding what the tar- geted audience needs and how do they react to the proposed image-related top- ics. The focus group is young second-generation immigrants, that share an inter- est in developing and integrating themselves as professionals in the working force. Interviewees are gathered from Pioneer Association Ry’s network, as well as the author’s personal network. The results are analyzed and presented on this thesis to give a better direction to the Brand Identity creation, based on the feedback and comments gathered from the questionnaires. Additionally, the fi- nal results of this research offer valuable guidance on how to approach and de- velop a brand identity for a new company/association, as well as the Brand Iden- tity as a final product for the commissionaire Pioneer Association Ry

The objective of the thesis was to audit the current systems and services utilized by a professional association, SESKO ry, and to subsequently consider practical improvements which were in line with the best interests of its members. This is presented in a diary format with working days described, along with weekly summaries and analysis. The aim was to document professional development in Information Communication Technology (ICT) development, as an employee transitions from being an external contractor to an internal employee for the professional association SESKO ry. This thesis was conducted during early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had substantial influence on the role and responsibilities of the author. The theoretical framework was based on a prior working relationship with SESKO ry, acknowledging an underlying need for the adoption of new ICT procedures due to a change management process. The diary utilized a Kaizen PDCA model, with reference literature corresponding to the job description and assigned projects. Internal and unpublished material for IT system and service development of SaaS tools, service management contracts, electrotechnical standardization documents, templates for reporting and presentation material were also included in the framework. The results of the diary confirmed early analysis of the author, in that there was a need for certain systems and services to be reconsidered. The communication methods also required a revamp, and this can be seen in weekly summaries. This was achieved through reaching a consensus within the professional association. The analysis resulted in new projects being initiated for SESKO ry; the implementation of an IT assets management system and a move from local server systems to cloud based services. The work conducted during this thesis validated author’s future employment as ICT Developer and project leader

Potential strategies to improving safety in small construction organisations

Efforts to improving safety in the construction industry have mainly been adopted by large organisations. As a result, these organisations have managed to substantially improve their safety performance. The construction industry, however, is dominated by small organisations. These organisations are facing difficulties to implement safety and, as a result, their safety performance is worse than their larger counterparts. Due to their large proportion in the construction industry, a small improvement among small organisations should have considerable impacts on the overall safety performance of the industry. This research aims to identify potential strategies to improve safety in small organisations in the context of the Australian construction industry. A questionnaire was developed based on a list of barriers and strategies identified from the existing literature. The questionnaire was then distributed to construction practitioners in Australia, particularly those working in small construction organisations, to obtain the perceived importance of each barrier and strategy. Open-ended questions were also included allowing the respondents to add additional barriers and strategies. Many perceived that external environmental factors are the key barriers that hinder safety implementation in small organisations. Improving safety, therefore, requires the support from influential stakeholders in the industry. Clients should consider safety as one of the key project objectives and include safety as one of the criteria in tendering. The government and regulatory bodies need to enforce safety regulations effectively and subsidise safety training for qualified small organisations. Safety performance should also be linked to insurance premium and licencing system in the construction industry. Finally, existing mandatory safety training needs to be evaluated and revised, while safety compliance for small organisations should be simplified and made practical

An investigation of safety climate in Chinese major construction projects

Safety performance in the Chinese construction projects remains poor in comparison to other developed countries. While a considerable body of research has accumulated to explain why accident and incident rates remain high in China, research into safety climate in Chinese major construction projects remains scant. To address this gap in knowledge, a survey of 189 construction professionals across five major construction projects in China was undertaken using a validated safety climate framework. Follow-up interviews were also conducted with nine senior construction safety professionals to verify the survey analysis results. The findings indicate that safety climate in major construction projects in China is perceived to be strong, and management commitment appears to be the underlying factor to promote this positive result. Safety rules and procedures is a dimension that requires attention because of their complexity and competing interests during their implementation. All the dimensions of the safety climate are strongly interrelated, indicating that multidimensional and holistic strategies should be employed to improve safety climate in major construction projects. This research enriches the understanding about the characteristics of safety climate in Chinese major construction projects and the effective measures which can be taken to further enhance the safety performance on these projects

Workers' relational identification with supervisors influences safety behaviour in construction projects

Purpose: This research aims to examine the influence of workers' identification with their supervisors on safety behaviour in construction projects. Design/methodology/approach: Employing the job demands–resources theory, this research tested the relationships among relational identification as a personal resource, respectful engagement as a job resource, employee safety voice as a positive work behaviour and safety behaviour as the outcome. Partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) was used to analyse 120 quantitative data collected using a questionnaire survey. Findings: Relational identification, which reflects workers' identification with their supervisors, is a significant predictor of safety behaviour. Furthermore, respectful engagement and employee safety voice sequentially mediate the relationship between relational identification and safety behaviour. Research limitations/implications: The internalisation of safety norms, values and practices in construction projects is contingent on the identification of workers with their supervisors. Originality/value: Safety behaviour of workers is a significant predictor of safety performance in construction projects. Research on numerous antecedents of safety behaviour points out that leadership is a significant predictor of construction workers' safe behaviour. Contributing to research on construction safety leadership, this research found that leader-subordinate relationship is key to make construction workers more psychologically ready to internalise the importance of safety behaviours at work
