The conventional versus a constructionist Scratch programming and first-year students' achievements in higher education classes: experimental data.
Globally, learning or teaching the first programming (popularly called CS1) remains a significant educational challenge. Indicators such as CS1 students' engagement, failure and attrition rates, and lack of diversity, continue to show the need for innovating the learning or teaching of novice computer science students. To ease initiating novices to programming, Scratch, a visual programming language, has become a staple of K-12 CS1 classes.
As outcomes of a research project aiming to explore a constructionist Scratch pedagogy with novice CS students in higher education, we present these datasets. In the research lasting two successive academic sessions, we conducted two quasi-experimental studies involving four intact CS1 classes in selected public polytechnic in the north central Nigeria. In each study, we randomly assigned the classes to the experimental and control groups, constituting the constructionist Scratch and the conventional CS1 classes, respectively.
Instruments for collecting data include a student profile questionnaire, a pretest, and posttest. Sequel to ethical clearance and permission from the selected schools, we conducted each study during the first semester of each academic session, in the first seven to eight weeks. During the first to second week, we administered students who consented to take part with the questionnaire and the pretest. Learning or teaching in the two classes lasted six weeks. Then both classes took the posttest. An independent CS educator who is not part of this research marked all the achievement tests, following a rubric prepared by the first author. To strengthen the research design and the possibility of arriving at valid causal evidence, we employed a Coarsened Exact Matching (CEM) algorithm to generate matched samples of experimental and control data, which we used in the analysis.
Data presented here includes the raw, unmatched and matched experimental datasets from both studies. A researcher can make use of the data:
To explore if some background variables not addressed in the original research may moderate CS1 students' achievements. For instance, their prior achievements in mathematics, physics, or English.
To uncover some interesting patterns using machine learning algorithms.
To validate the outcome of the original experiment by using the unmatched, matched or newly generated matched samples.
The authors welcome further research collaborations in using the data or the accompanying research instruments.

Branding as a tool for customer loyalty : Globacom Telecommunications Ltd, Lagos State, Nigeria
The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of branding in building customer loyalties in the Nigerian telecommunication industry focusing on Globacom Telecommunications Limited, one of the major players in the Nigerian telecommunication industry. The telecommunication industry, with four major companies holding 96% of the market share, is very competitive despite its potential for growth. As a result, organizations in the industry are devising various strategies to ensure that they do not lose their customers to rivals.
This research work is based on a mixed method which involves the use of quantitative and qualitative research methodology with questionnaire and interviews used as a mean of data collection. An online questionnaire was administered on 30 customers of the commissioning company and six interviews were also conducted through channels such as Zoom and voice calls.
The data was analysed using content analysis and the findings indicate that the brand identity, brand image and brand satisfaction were useful tools in creating customer loyalty. In the case of the commissioning company, a misalignment between the brand identity and brand image has resulted in some customers exhibiting spurious loyalty while others exhibit total loyalty.
It was therefore suggested that the commissioner revamp its brand communication strategies to reposition the brand and focus on creating a lasting relationship between the brand and its customers. This is necessary in order to win over the customers who exhibit spurious loyalty

Energy Audit of Manufacturing and Processing Industries in Nigeria: A Case Study of Food Processing Industry and Distillation & Bottling Company
Abstract In this paper, analysis of the energy audit of Food processing industry and Distillation and Bottling Company in Ota, Nigeria has been carried out. A walk-through energy audit of these industries was undertaken to identify the major sources of energy in use, identifying the lapses in energy usage, identifying areas to improve energy usage, determining the level of consumption of the energy sources and recommending policy measures that will enhance energy savings in the industries and Nigerian industries at large. The study observed that among a wide variation of end-use electricity consuming equipment, electric motors were the major consumer of electrical energy, accounting for 40-47 % of total electric energy. Also from the identified energy use sources in the two industries, it was observed that fuel energy expended in operating the generating set, boilers or heaters in the industries had the highest value of energy use accounting for more than 65 % of the total energy used. It was observed that none of the companies under review sufficiently utilized their energy as they all have their energy used ratio far below 1. This was as a result of some factors that contributed to energy waste and energy use inefficiency in the companies. Among these factors are: Poor in housekeeping of air- condition and refrigeration equipments and electric motors that dissipate much heat, use of electric motors that are weak and generate excessive noise because they have been rewound more than twice, improper lagging of boilers that lead to losing much heat, switching on of the lighting points in the day time and generation of electrical energy more than needed in the industry by some electri
Impact of the New Agro-Certification System (SEEDCODEX) on Nigerian Seed Industry and Crop Farming
There have been increase in the incidence of fake crop seeds in Nigerian market. This has multiple implications on crop yield and food security. In order to address this problem the National Agricultural Seed Council (NASC) in 2019 introduced a seed quality assurance tagging and tracking system named SEEDCODEX into the Nigerian seed induatry. Meanwhile, there is no knowledge about the impact of the new system on the industry. This study therefore assessed the impact of Seedcodex on the industry with the aim of understanding the level of awareness, use and constriants among key actors in the seed value chain. Also it has to identify socioeconomic variables affecting the use of seedcodex among end users and come up with recommendations which are capable of enhancing the achievement of the objectives of the system. Data were collected from 44 seed companies, 57 agrodealers and 211 farmers and analyzed with Contingent valuation willingness to pay (WTP), Logit and Tobit regressions. Results revealed that seed companies were aware of Seedcodex and posited that its introduction has increased cost of production, but believed it will sanitize agricultural seed market. All the agrodealers were aware of Seedcodex. Majority of the farmers plant seeds produced by companies and sold by agro-dealers, while few others source seeds from fellow farmers, or use previous year harvest. Only about 31% of the farmers were aware of Seedcodex, among whom majority usually scratch the code but some do not send such for authentication. The Logit estimation revealed that increase in age reduced the likelihood of using the code while education, farm size and access to credit increased the likelihood of using it for authentication. The contingent valuation of WTP revealed that farmers were willing to pay 26.82% extra to obtain certified quality seeds. The Tobit regression estimation revealed that farmers’ age and extension contact reduced WTP amount, while farming experience and farm size increased it. It is recommended that efforts be made to attend to companies’ complaints on the cost of seed labels and/or create labels corresponding to weight of seed packages in place of the present flat rate, ensure timely delivery and educate farmers more on SEEDCODEX
Functional Tax Governance Apparatus and Economic Development
The proportion of tax earnings to gross domestic product (GDP) in Nigerian economy had been ranked and affirmed the least in the sub-Sahara African and as evolving economy, different reasons attested to this fact, hence, the study is aimed at investigate the inherent lacuna of tax governance apparatus in responses to economic development as broad objective. The study employed field research design, the research instrument that was deployed for collection of data is purposive and structured questionnaire targeted at elicit information from relevant and related stakeholders in tax matters, the research instrument and data collected were subjected to Cronbach alpha test and heteroscedasticity test to affirm the validity/reliability and best linear unbiased estimator of data collected respectively. The result revealed that the responsiveness of economic development to tax assessment, tax policy and tax administration were statistically significant inversely related while tax collection was statistically insignificant related directly with economic development. Thereby study concluded that poor management and administration of tax system in Nigeria responsible for adverse relationship that subsist between the proportion of tax earnings to GDP and resulted decayed and declined physical infrastructures and socio
